أثنى آندي روبرتسون، لاعب فريق ليفربول، على زميله النجم المصري محمد صلاح بعدما قادهم إلى الفوز في مباراة اليوم ضد جيرونا، في بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وحل ليفربول ضيفًا على خصمه جيرونا، في الجولة السادسة من دوري أبطال أوروبا، مرحلة الدوري حيث فاز الضيوف بهدف دون رد.

ويعود الفضل في ذلك الفوز الصعب إلى محمد صلاح، الذي سجل هدف المباراة الوحيد من ضربة جزاء.

وأردف: “6 انتصارات من أصل 6، لا يمكنك أن تطلب أفضل من ذلك، ليس من السهل القيام بذلك، وإلا لكان هناك المزيد من الفرق التي تفعل هذا الأمر، كان أداؤنا جيدًا وفزنا في المباريات”.

واعترف: “ولكننا سبق وأن لعبنا بشكل أفضل كثيرًا مقارنة بالليلة، هذا أمر مؤكد، لم نكن في أعلى مستوياتنا الليلة، لكن في هذه المرحلة يتعلق الأمر بالفوز بالمباريات وضمان التأهل، وأعتقد أننا فعلنا ذلك”.

SURPRESA

A postura do Brasil de Pelotas no primeiro tempo não foi como o Botafogo esperava. Ao invés de se defender e sair no contra-ataque, o Xavante adiantou as linhas e marcou o Alvinegro Carioca sob pressão. O time gaúcho, inclusive, conseguiu criar boas chances de gol, mas teve dificuldade em conclui-las em gol.

Assim, o Botafogo teve certa dificuldade para impor seu jogo, mas conseguiu criar uma boa chance com Navarro. Depois de bom passe de Chay, o camisa 99, que estava dentro da área, cortou a marcação, ajeitou o corpo e chutou de perna esquerda. Contudo, Denílson apareceu e desviou a bola. Após esse lance, que ocorreu aos 14 minutos, o Alvinegro oscilou um pouco na partida até crescer de produção na reta final do primeiro tempo.

O Botafogo cresceu de produção na reta final do primeiro tempo e conseguiu furar o bloqueio do Xavante. Depois de uma jogada de escanteio, a bola sobrou para o Oyama no meio campo, que encontrou Pedro Castro na entrada da área. Com a defesa desorganizada, Pedro Castro deu ótimo passe para Navarro, que invadia a área, o centroavante, por sua vez, não foi fominha e tocou rasteiro para Joel Carli balançar as redes do Nilton Santos.

Este foi o primeiro gol de Carli desde que retornou ao Botafogo em março deste ano. Ainda vale ressaltar que foi o primeiro jogo do zagueiro argentino desde sua volta.

POLÊMICAS

O Botafogo voltou melhor do que o Brasil de Pelotas e criou boas chances de gol, mas “parou na arbitragem”. Logo aos dois minutos, Chay cobrou escanteio, e Pedro Castro foi puxado por Oliveira dentro da área, mas o árbitro deixou o lance seguir.

Quatro minutos depois, Diego Gonçalves foi lançado em profundidade e ficaria cara a cara com o goleiro Matheus Nogueira, mas foi derrubado por Arthur, que era o último homem. Mesmo sendo um lance para expulsão, o zagueiro ficou só com o amarelo.

Aos 12 minutos, depois de cruzamento na área, a bola bateu na mão de Leandro Camilo. Os jogadores reclamaram de pênalti, mas o lance seguiu. Foi o terceiro erro contra o Botafogo num intervalo de dez minutos.

SUPERIORIDADE

A superioridade do Botafogo no segundo tempo foi notória. O Brasil de Pelotas sentiu o gol e não conseguiu manter o mesmo ritmo forte da primeira etapa. o primeiro ataque do Xavante na etapa final, inclusive, surgiu numa cobrança de escanteio fechada aos 16 minutos.Na reta final do jogo, o time gaúcho pressionou, criou oportunidades promissoras, mas não conseguiu arrancar o empate.

Speaking late last month, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about attack being an area he wants to strengthen at Tottenham, to which he responded: "Yeah, absolutely. It's no secret. You saw the way we finished the season. We obviously lost Richy and Timo as well with injuries, but we're fairly light in that area.

"We started last season with Manor [Solomon] and [Ivan] Perisic and we were quite healthy in that front third in terms of numbers, but as the year went on, it became pretty evident that we need to bulk up. We're in Europe as well next year so we'll have more games and it's definitely an area of the park we'll need to strengthen."

This has been followed by a number of attacking names being tipped to make a move to north London. It was reported last week that Spurs are expected to initiate discussions with Crystal Palace within the next two weeks regarding the potential signing of Eberechi Eze.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are believed to be preparing a personal terms package for Brentford's Ivan Toney, with a further report claiming the north Londoners are prepared to offer £40m for the Bees striker. Sevilla hitman Youssef En-Nesyri has also emerged as a potentially serious target for Spurs.

£191,000-per-week star could join Tottenham

Now, a fresh attacker has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The player in question is former Celtic star Jota, who is currently at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Jota, who earns £191,000-a-week, opted to leave Celtic for Saudi Arabia last summer for around £25m, going on to score five and assist one in 25 outings for his new club across all competitions. In comparison, the Portuguese scored 15 and assisted 12 in 45 outings for Celtic during the 2022/23 season under Postecoglou.

The 25-year-old's drop in form may have something to do with TEAMtalk reporting that Jota has endured an "unsettled year in Saudi Arabia". The report goes on to detail the winger's struggles in Saudi Arabia, adding that Al-Ittihad could be open to selling him if the price is right.

However, the Saudi powerhouse may not get a full return on their investment if Transfermarkt's current market value is anything to go by – with the Portuguese star at around £7m, which is around £18m less than what they paid Celtic just one year ago.

In terms of clubs who are interested in Jota, TEAMtalk states that his agent, Jorge Mendes, is working hard to secure a move for the winger, who is attracting interest from the Premier League. In particular, Tottenham and West Ham are mentioned, as they were "very interested" in Jota last summer.

Given Spurs are in the market for fresh legs up front and Ange Postecoglou previously worked with Jota during his time at Celtic, it could be a smart move for all involved.

Cast your minds back to January and Arsenal needed a centre-forward. Oh, how they desperately needed a striker.

During a run which likely cost the Gunners the league title around the festive period, they couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.

Against West Ham in December, a match they lost, Mikel Arteta's men had 30 attempts at goal and still failed to score. They were creating chances at will but simply couldn't find the net.

Their luck changed in the second half of the season as they ran Manchester City all the way for the Premier League title.

The next time they faced West Ham they scored six. Ultimately the north Londoners missed out on the prize but they did end the campaign as the second top scorers on 91.

So, do they still need a new forward? It's perhaps not as pressing but recent reports do reveal some exciting news.

Arsenal's hunt for a new striker

It looked for all the world as though Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko would be on his way to Arsenal this summer.

The RB Leipzig forward had a rather sensible release clause and all Edu and Co really needed to do was just cough up the money. It looked a simple move to complete, right? Well, think again.

Sesko is now set to stay in Germany and sign a new deal with the Red Bull club.

So, according to reports, their attention has now turned to Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal's interest in the Sporting striker has been no secret over recent months but they have now stepped up their pursuit, so much so that there are claims he is now 'on the verge' of signing for the club.

That's according to reports in Portugal, via Sport Witness, who suggest that Arsenal and the Lisbon club have agreed on an initial £76m package that could rise to around £101m in add-ons.

That would make this the second biggest transfer in their history after Declan Rice joined for £105m last summer.

The same Portuguese publication has reported in a separate article that negotiations have advanced rapidly of late, with agent Jorge Mendes leading the transfer.

What Gyokeres could offer to Arsenal

Goals. Right, can we finish the article now? We're joking, of course, but the fact of the matter is that the Swede is a monster in front of goal.

Having moved from EFL side Coventry City last summer, the 26-year-old enjoyed one of the most prolific campaigns in the whole of Europe, hailed for his "incredible" finishing by reporter Brian Fonseca.

Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 50 games, and for good measure also supplied his teammates with 15 assists. So, he can find the net, that's one box ticked.

Because of this, he could be a genuine dream for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard in the final third.

Last season, Odegaard was the Premier League's third-highest assister with 10, only behind Cole Palmer (11) and Ollie Watkins (13). Meanwhile, when it came to expected assists (xA), Odegaard (11.2) and Saka (11) topped the tree.

Clearly then, Arsenal could have been more prolific in front of goal because the two players underperformed their xA tally. As it happens, their number 7 was the most deadly in the penalty area, scoring 20 times in all competitions. The next best was Leandro Trossard with 17.

The theme surrounding those two players? They're not centre-forwards. It is difficult not to bring up Kai Havertz. Once moved to the top of the pitch with greater regularity, the German was a revelation, scoring eight and supplying seven goals from 18 matches as a striker. You'd think with a full season in that role he could well reach the 20-goal mark.

However, that's still nowhere near the dizzying tally of Gyokers in 2023/24. Havertz proved game-changing as an option as the focal point of the attack. He'd bring Saka and Odegaard into play brilliantly but Gyokers is no one-trick pony either.

As you can see, he managed more take-ons, shot-creating actions and assists per 90 last term than the German. That just shows that Saka and Odegaard's creative numbers could skyrocket next season. Put it simply, they would both love such a clinical asset playing ahead of them.

If a deal really is on the verge of completion, it could be a mega one to kickstart Edu's business for the summer.

Aston Villa look set to raid Sporting Club

According to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via Sport Witness) earlier this month, Villa have been linked with a move for Pedro Goncalves recently as they seek to bolster their attacking options.

Bayer Leverkusen have had an offer of £25m rejected as the Portuguese club demand a much higher transfer fee, something which could potentially be a stumbling block for Emery.

Might Goncalves want a second crack at the Premier League, however, as he made just one appearance during a spell with Wolves at the start of his career.

A move for the 26-year-old would allow Emery to sign a perfect player for Maatsen to link up with, as well as bringing in an upgrade on Morgan Rogers.

What Pedro Goncalves could offer Aston Villa

Signing Maatsen could be a shrewd piece of business, but by adding Goncalves to his squad, the Spaniard could form an impressive duo on the left wing.

Last season, the former Wolves starlet scored 18 goals while grabbing 17 assists across all competitions. 18 of these goal contributions came from the left wing, which suggests this is the position he is most comfortable performing in.

During his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Maatsen created three big chances, averaged 0.5 key passes and succeeded with 0.8 dribbles across just 16 Bundesliga matches, proving that he loves to get forward whenever possible, something which could work in Goncalves’ favour.

Emery signed Rogers in January from Middlesbrough after he enjoyed an impressive start to the season, but he failed to really replicate this sort of form in the Midlands.

Indeed, when compared to his positional peers across similar leagues, the youngster ranked in the top 8% for assists per 90 (0.42) yet ranked in the lowest 88% for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.11) and the lowest 60% for total shots per 90 (1.97).

In comparison, Goncalves ranked in the top 12% for non-penalty goals (0.38), the top 3% for assists (0.42) and the top 9% for total shots (3.15) per 90, which certainly proves he would be a major upgrade on the current Villa gem.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig hailed Goncalves as “incredible” way back in 2021 and since then, he has improved both his performances and statistics season after season.

The chance to play in the Premier League and compete at the top end of the table, plus participation in the Champions League, could give Emery an advantage in his pursuit of the winger.

Much will depend on the fee Sporting Club demand for their prized asset in the coming weeks.
