Wolves transfer update on Traore

Many Wolves fans have been left to fume as a transfer update emerged on Adama Traore.

Speaking on the Europe Is Blue Podcast, The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law has claimed (via Talking Wolves) that Chelsea have a ‘definite interest’ in the Spain international, and believe that the Midlands club could sell him for as little as £20-25million.

Although Traore had a disappointing 2020/21 season by his standards, with a mere six goal contributions in 41 games in total over all competitions, the campaign before that he was nothing short of electric, notching up six goals and 12 assists (Transfermarkt).

Considering in last summer’s window his price was much more inflated as well, with reports even going as far as him being valued at £135m, to sell the winger for only £20-25m, especially to a Premier League rival, does seem a little too low.

Hampshire Cricketers to wear numbered shirts in Championship

Hampshire Cricket will break with tradition once again this summer – by wearing football-style shirts in the Frizzell County Championship.

Simon Walters (Daily Echo)07-Apr-2002Hampshire Cricket will break with tradition once again this summer – by wearing football-style shirts in the Frizzell County Championship.Chairman Rod Bransgrove has already succeeded in turning Hampshire County Cricket Club into Hampshire Cricket, the cricketing arm of the county circuit’s first public limited company. And last month a public offering of shares was made in Rose Bowl plc with Bransgrove and chief executive Graham Walker hopeful of raising £5 million. But the decision to wear named and numbered shirts in the four-day game is not unprecedented.Lancashire had them on the back of special fleece shirts last year and pioneered the idea with safety pins more than 50 years ago.Now Robin Smith’s men will follow suit, although traditionalists will be pleased to know that the woollen jumpers will remain the same as the names would become unreadable once put through the wash!Chairman Rod Bransgrove first unveiled the plan at the AGM two months ago but Hampshire Cricket have now been given the go-ahead by the ECB and the players will wear the shirts for the first time when they begin the season at Kent in 13 days’ time.Director of cricket Tim Tremlett said: “Lancashire used numbered shirts in the championship last year where it went down particularly well with members and players.”I gather they are used a lot in South Africa as well and they have obviously been a success in the one day game.”Players are quite hard to distinguish from the stands and batsmen can be particularly hard to make out when they are wearing helmets so this should be a great help to spectators.”It also means that the players will have no excuse for picking up the wrong shirt in the dressing room!”

West Ham: Worrying Rice claim emerges

The situation surrounding Declan Rice’s future at West Ham United is going to be something to watch this summer amid a new worrying claim…

What’s the word?

According to the Telegraph’s Matt Law, the 22-year-old midfielder is keen on making a return to his former club Chelsea, who are also thought to be interested in signing him.

And it’s something that Hammers fans have been warned to keep an eye on.

Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘London is Blue’ podcast, the reliable journalist said:

“I have to be careful with what I say on this, because I’ve got some information on this which will end up getting written at some stage which I can’t really talk about. Look, Chelsea are interested in Declan Rice and everyone knows that Declan Rice is interested in Chelsea.

“The problem’s West Ham, and the problem’s the asking price with West Ham. I mean, they’re telling everybody at the moment it’s £100m and Chelsea aren’t going to pay £100m for Declan Rice this summer.

“So it’s what happens from there, really, and I think there’s more to play on this. And it’s going to be an interesting summer, let’s say, around Declan Rice and Chelsea.”

Time to worry?

Rice, who is currently excelling for England at Euro 2020, has frequently been linked with an exit from the London Stadium, with both Manchester giants mooted with interest, on top of Chelsea, too.

Irons boss David Moyes has previously rejected the idea of selling the 6 foot 1 powerhouse, claiming: “Bank of England money would be required, and you might even need to add Bank of Scotland on to that as well because he has been so good.”

However, this latest claim is a fresh sign that Rice is keen to go back to Stamford Bridge and whilst their London rivals won’t pay the £100m asking price, Law suggests that this saga is only just getting underway.

“It’s going to be an interesting summer,” he hints.

That would perhaps suggest that after Euro 2020, a bidding war could ensue – or at the very least, Thomas Tuchel’s side will ramp up their pursuit.

The fact that both parties are said to want this deal leaves the Hammers in quite a powerless place right now, they don’t want to risk heading into the new campaign with an unsettled player, especially with a historic Europa League campaign on the horizon.

This claim will also leave much of the West Ham faithful absolutely terrified as no one will want to lose arguably their biggest star.

As per WhoScored figures, Rice ended the 2020/21 campaign as Moyes’ fourth-best player (7.01) but topped the charts for interceptions (1.8 per game) and wasn’t far behind for tackles (1.8 per game), too.

Evidently, he’s a hugely influential player on the pitch for the East London outfit but this update suggesting he wants to leave is a huge bombshell that’ll leave many, many supporters truly worried.

But at the end of the day, Chelsea are still a level above the Irons, having just won the Champions League. This is far from a finished story yet.

'I want to be in the Somerset side' says fit again Bulbeck

One player who is determined to be in the starting line up for the first match of the season against Cardiff UCCE at Millfield School on Saturday is Matt Bulbeck, who has been missing from the Somerset scene for too long

Richard Walsh07-Apr-2002One player who is determined to be in the starting line up for the first match of the season against Cardiff UCCE at Millfield School on Saturday is Matt Bulbeck, who has been missing from the Somerset scene for too long. The twenty two year old who made such an impact for Somerset in his debut season in 1998 has been sadly limited in his first team appearances over the last couple of seasons due to a back injury. After a winter during which he has worked very hard at his fitness levels hopefully all of that is now behind him and on the eve of the new season he told me: "It feels really great to be out on the grass at the County Ground again, and I’m pleased to say that I’m bowling as well as I have for a very long time."Matt continued: "We are fielding a strong side against the West of England Premier League XI on Monday and I will be playing. I’m really looking forward to the first game at Millfield on Saturday, and want to be in the line up."Matt Bulbeck’s comments are very good news for Somerset who have a bowling vacancy in their team after the departures of Jason Kerr to Derbyshire and Jamie Grove to Leicestershire.

Sornoza, Gustavo Scarpa, Wellington, Marcos Junior, Henrique Dourado…

– Me sinto muito feliz no clube, me adaptei muito rápido.

– Queremos seguir ajudando o clube a conquistar vitórias.

The long and short of it

Merv Dillon against VVS Laxman – India first innings at Jamaica
© CricInfoFor a bowler groomed to be the spearhead of the West Indian paceattack, Merv Dillon went an unusually long time without a fivewicket haul. After his 5-111 at Karachi in December 1997, Dillonsuffered such a drought that he must have felt considerableempathy with Ramnaresh Sarwan, a teammate who also had problemsin notching up a statistical milestone. But while Sarwan remainswithout a Test century to his credit, Dillon got his 5-71 in theIndian first innings at Jamaica.Dillon’s bowling in the two Indian innings presents aninteresting study in contrasts. When India got out for 212, hepicked wickets with extreme alacrity, at the top of the order aswell as the middle. In India’s second essay, however, with thepressure on the batting team, Dillon could only manage one wicketfor 77 runs in 22.3 overs – that too of Zaheer Khan on the finalday with the second new ball.To analytically compare the performances, take Dillon’s head-tohead against the best batsman in either innings. In India’s 212,VVS Laxman top-scored with an unbeaten 65 off 152 balls, withseven fours. Dillon, however, conceded only 18 of those runs;Laxman just managed to nudge the fast bowler around for paltryruns.
Merv Dillon against Sachin Tendulkar – India second innings at Jamaica
© CricInfoEight of Laxman’s runs against Dillon came in the third-man area, and that is telling. As was warranted on a fast, bouncy pitch,Dillon effectively dug the ball in just short of driving length, and Laxman could only score by gliding the ball twice to thethird-man boundary for four. For the rest of the 42 deliveries,Dillon was spot-on, and Laxman could just sneak singles and twos.Admittedly Laxman at the time was under more pressure than SachinTendulkar in the second innings, and admittedly Tendulkar is amore versatile player. But Dillon conceded 30 runs in 39 balls toTendulkar, 22 of them coming in front of square. Tendulkar droveDillon with ease, a direct result of the fast bowler pitchingfurther up when, on the pacy Sabina Park pitch, he should havedone exactly what he did in the first innings – jag it in shorterand let the track do the rest.If Dillon encountered some hitches with his length, ShivnarineChanderpaul showed Zen-like mastery over that very quality. NamedMan of the Series, Chanderpaul set a new record for the longestinterval between two dismissals. In racking up scores of 67 notout, 101 not out, 136 not out and 58, the Guyanese batsmantormented the Indians for 1,513 minutes in all before JavagalSrinath had him caught behind at Sabina Park. Perhapsunsurprisingly, India, along with Zimbabwe, bore the brunt of theprevious record as well when Jacques Kallis tallied 1,241 minutesearlier this year.
