Jovem lateral revelado nas categorias de base, titularidade, proposta do futebol europeu… dez anos após ver Fagner sair precocemente do Corinthians rumo ao PSV (HOL), o torcedor alvinegro agora tem preocupação com a possibilidade de saída de Guilherme Arana, titular desde o início da temporada, em alta e assediado por clubes como Ajax (HOL), Bordeaux (FRA) e Bayer Leverkusen (ALE). Mais experiente e presente em 200 jogos do Corinthians ao longo dos últimos anos, o lateral-direito evitou conselhos ao lateral-esquerdo, mas deixou claro que vê os dois casos de modos distintos.

– Eu vejo situações diferentes no meu caso e dele, apesar de os dois terem sido formados no clube. Eu joguei muito menos no profissional, o Arana já vem desde 2014 entre os profissionais, 2015 atuando bastante, ano passado também e esse ano se firmou como grande jogador que vem sendo. Esses anos de profissional deram bagagem a ele para chegar a qualquer clube europeu preparado, com mentalidade de como se comportar. É difícil falar que não tem que ir ou tem que ir, é a escolha do atleta, o que é bom para o clube e para ele, uma série de fatores. Mas a gente espera que aconteça o que for melhor para ambos – disse Fagner, que respondeu logo depois se sua história serve de exemplo negativo sobre uma transferência cedo à Europa.

– Minha história é conhecida. Mas assim, o que eu digo hoje é que tanto o Maycon quanto o Arana tiveram mais participações como profissional do que eu. Na minha época foi outra situação, de término de contrato, com eles é diferente. Eu saí com apenas sete jogos, até você adquirir respeito e bagagem é diferente – completou o lateral-direito corintiano, satisfeito pela diretoria segurar jogadores em 2017, ao contrário do que ocorreu nos últimos anos.

-O Corinthians é um clube grande, que sempre vai estar disputando título. Quanto mais forte for o elenco para disputar título, é o que o jogador quer.

Revelado pelo Corinthians em 2007, Fagner atuou somente sete partidas até o fim do ano, quando foi negociado com o PSV. Depois, ele defendeu Vitória, Vasco e Wolfsburg até acertar o retorno ao Corinthians em 2014. Campeão brasileiro em 2015 e estadual neste ano, o camisa 23 completou 200 partidas no empate em 1 a 1 com o Patriotas, na Colômbia, pela Sul-Americana. Realizado profissionalmente, ele se vê no melhor momento da carreira.

-Eu me vejo muito feliz, realizado com tudo o que vem acontecendo, só tenho a agradecer pelas pessoas que estão ao meu lado, quem me ajudou no começo. Sem dúvida me sinto realizado, estou em casa, e a maneira de retribuir é buscar a evolução para estar sempre em alto nível – relatou o lateral, que já foi assediado por clubes internacionais e hoje não cogita transferência.

-É difícil falar do futuro, uma coisa que pode ou não acontecer. Estou muito feliz aqui, estou realizado profissionalmente e pessoalmente, perto da minha família, fui criado aqui. Se eu pudesse escolher um clube para me aposentar seria o Corinthians, onde comecei aos nove anos. Mas é muito cedo para isso. Hoje não penso no que pode acontecer amanhã, porque pode atrapalhar. Se eu ficar pensando daqui a 15, 30 dias, vou deixar de produzir.

Former Leeds United star David Norris believes that Junior Firpo can develop into a fine player at the club, having been criticised by some fans following his display against Newcastle United last weekend.

The Whites defender joined the club from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with the club paying £13.5m to secure his signature from the Spanish club.

Firpo has gone on to make four appearances in the Premier League since his arrival from the Liga giants.

The 25-year-old has made three starts in the top-flight, against Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle, and came on as a substitute against Manchester United.

Leeds have yet to win this season, losing to United and Liverpool, and drawing with the Toffees, Burnley, and the Magpies.

Norris is consistent in his belief that Firpo will turn out to be a fine signing for the club, and thinks he has the ability required to become a real star in Yorkshire.

However, he believes that, at this point, he is still adapting to the system at the club.

He said: “From the bits I’ve seen from him, I think he’s capable. He looks like he could be a good player and turn out to be a good signing, obviously he’s not really got going yet.

“He’s not one I would write off yet, I like the little bits I have seen and I think he’s capable of being a good signing still. He just needs a little bit more game time.”

Wasim Akram, the former Pakistan captain, has suggested the PCB invite a World XI to play matches in the country in order to ease the security concerns of international teams. With teams reluctant to tour Pakistan, Akram felt the board needs to find a “viable solution” to the problem, which is “not going to go away soon”.”We should give priority to inviting a World XI if no country is willing to send teams to Pakistan,” Akram told . “If we offer good money to international cricketers from different countries they will come and this will go a long way in showing the world that it is safe to play cricket in our country.”Recently, the ICC decided not to stage the Champions Trophy in Pakistan after several countries expressed reservations about touring. The event, scheduled for last year, had been postponed in light of security concerns. Australia also cancelled their proposed tour of the country in 2008, and are likely to play the ODI leg of the tour in April at a neutral venue.Akram said the board could try organising its own Twenty20 league on the lines of the IPL and try to attract players. However, he felt the PCB needed to show focus. Recently, Javed Miandad stepped down from his position as director-general. “Although the PCB is run by former cricketers I don’t see a sense of direction but I think we should give them some time. They should also avoid personal feuds and make a good system and follow it,” he said. “All board officials must realise no one person can enjoy or have absolute powers. Major decisions must be taken collectively and that is how a good company is run.”Akram hoped Younis Khan succeeded Shoaib Maliks as Pakistan captain, making up for the inadequacies of his predecessor. “I don’t think only the Sri Lanka series decided Malik’s fate. I think his performance and attitude on and off the field also caused him dearly. I think he had lost the confidence of senior players and I hope Younis Khan will prove himself as a good leader.”Akram advised Younis to keep his calm in leading the side, especially when things went against the team. Akram, who led a Pakistan team to India in a breakthrough series in 1999, said the Pakistan players who have been presently barred from travelling to India for the IPL should be permitted to take part in the tournament if the Indian government gives an assurance about their security.

A única ausência na Vila foi a do atacante Bruno Henrique, que sofreu um pisão no pé no jogo contra o Atlético-PR e não se recuperou a tempo do clássico.

Hwang is certainly impressing at the Midlands club so far, after he scored on his debut in a short cameo in the 2-0 away win at Watford in the Premier League earlier on this month (Transfermarkt).

He is emerging as a bit of a fans favourite already, and will no doubt want to show the Molineux faithful what else he can do over the next set of fixtures.

The Latest: Start?

Writing in his latest piece for The Express & Star, Keen has now claimed that Hwang may be in line for a start against Spurs, along with Daniel Podence, while the entire defence may be changed from those who started the 2-0 loss at home to Brentford at Saturday lunchtime.

It would be his first start under Bruno Lage, and another impressive performance may see him in contention to start in the league on the weekend.

The Verdict: Start him

While there should be a few changes to the team expected given the need for rotation between the cups and the league, Hee-chan has certainly earned the right to start the match.

A player who Erling Haaland loves from his time playing with him at RB Salzburg, he certainly has a point to prove having been loaned out to WWFC from RB Leipzig.

Nonetheless, the South Korea international should give some good competition to Raul Jimenez and be able to fill in for him when he needs a rest.

The IPL franchises are expected to splurge over US$3 million on Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff, two of the biggest stars in world cricket, at the player auction in Goa on Friday. But after the pullout of Michael Clarke, the other star player who could have got well over a million dollars, most franchises agree that this year’s smartest pick will be JP Duminy, the South African batsman.Duminy, who is also a brilliant fielder, played a key role in South Africa’s success in Australia and is now being tagged by the franchises as “a favourite and one of the top three picks” for the season.The franchises concede the big money will be spent on Pietersen (base price: $1.35 million) and Flintoff ($950,000), especially after Clarke’s withdrawal. “Now if you are thinking long-term, current form and availability, then Duminy is your man,” a franchise official said.Duminy’s base price is $300,000 but what has made him a particularly attractive purchase, according to franchise officials, is that he will be available for most of this tournament, which starts on April 10 – the South African players are free after the home ODI series against Australia ends on April 17. In contrast, England players will be available only for the first three weeks of the IPL while the Australians will be free towards the end after they play Pakistan in an ODI series after the South Africa tour.”Duminy is also a natural strokeplayer, a great fielder, and at 24, your player for the future,” the official said. “You can expect vigorous bidding in his case.”The auction, which is scheduled to start at 10 am, is expected to be short and intense affair and IPL officials have confirmed that 17 slots would be available for purchase from a revised list of 50 players after the withdrawal of Pakistani cricketers.Last year, the inaugural IPL auction had featured over 75 top cricketers, including the entire Indian team, and the auction spilled over well into the evening. “This time, all the action will be foucused on a handful of cricketers,” a franchise official said. “After Pietersen, Flintoff, Duminy and possibly Shaun Tait, there are not many left to bid big for.”But of course, the big buzz is all about Pietersen and Flintoff. The Bangalore franchise, owned by industrialist Vijay Mallya, is expected to go the distance for Pietersen, while Punjab and Mumbai will bid hard for Andrew Flintoff. Chennai had originally targetted Clarke, but are now likely to join the race for Duminy while Rajasthan, the IPL champion, hasn’t ruled out the possibility of going after one of the top players. Incidentally, Graeme Smith, Duminy’s national captain, is a key member of the Rajasthan team.In fact, questions have already been asked whether Pietersen’s price would touch the $2m mark, which is the maximum a team can spend at this auction. And IPL officials are happy to let the price tag float around – it is great publicity, an official said.However, $2m for Pietersen is highly unlikely, going by IPL rules. “Each franchise will have the sum of US$ 2mn to spend on 2009 player fees for players who are acquired either: in the auction, through signing uncapped “new” players, through re-signing any 2008 temporary replacements,” the IPL rules state. Chennai is the only franchise that has the full amount at its disposal as the team has not yet signed on an uncapped player or resigned a temporary player from last year.Then, there are teams with specific needs. Delhi wants a specialist batsman; Kolkata, which has been hit by the absence of Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul, needs a fast bowler, possibly Shaun Tait; Mumbai would like to purchase an allrounder. “It has been generally accepted that multi-skilled players will be in demand, but most of the teams will enter the auction room with a clear, short list,” a franchise official said.The missing Pakistani players have also left the teams with a delicate balancing act to perform at the auction. According to IPL rules, teams can pick one-year replacements for the Pakistani players at the auction but will have to stay within the US$ 2 million cap. However, if the teams go for a replacement after the auction, they can spend the equivalent of the amount they would have paid the Pakistani player this year – this replacement will have to be from the original IPL list of 111 players released last week
