Chelsea are reportedly interested in making Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim their new manager at Stamford Bridge and the young Portuguese boss could prove to be the next Jose Mourinho.

Could Chelsea appoint Amorim?

According to The Guardian, Chelsea have already spoken with the 38-year-old manager as they consider a long-term replacement for Graham Potter.

It is claimed that Amorim isn't their first choice and is yet to be convinced that Chelsea is the right move for him, but the prospect of taking over the plethora of world-class talent at Stamford Bridge may prove difficult for him to turn down should the Blues make an official approach.

The arrival of Frank Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season has given Todd Boehly and co plenty of time to find their next main man at Stamford Bridge, with Amorim one of four who they have already been spoken to.

The young manager has earned a lot of plaudits for his work with Sporting Lisbon, having led them to the Portuguese Liga title in 2021 and impressing in the Champions League and Europa League since then, memorably knocking Arsenal out of the competition earlier this season.

Could Amorim be Mourinho 2.0 for Chelsea?

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are both name-checked as other potential options for the Blues but Amorim could see Chelsea return to the Portuguese league in search of an up-and-coming manager, having done so when appointing Jose Mourinho from Porto in 2004.

The special one had a big reputation, having already won the Champions League with Porto at the age of 41, but like Amorim, he had never managed outside of Portugal before arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Amorim earned a sensational 2.38 points per game in his 13 matches in charge of Braga, before impressing with Sporting Lisbon, averaging a superb 2.19 points per game there.

For context, Potter would manage just 1.42 points per game in his time with Chelsea, which suggests that the 38-year-old could be a big upgrade on the Englishman should he take over in the summer.

Although it might be seen as a risky appointment by some, Amorim has delivered unprecedented success with Sporting Lisbon, steering them to their first title in 19 years in 2021 and helping them to the Europa League quarter-final stage this season, with wins against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in this campaign.

The Athletic's Jack Pitt-Brooke rates him as "the most exciting young manager in European football" and for that reason, he could potentially follow in the footsteps of his Portuguese compatriot Mourinho, should Boehly bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs travelled away to Liverpool and treated neutrals to an absolute classic in the Premier League.

Just 15 minutes into the affair, it looks as though the Reds were going to run away with the game as they led 3-0 thanks to goals from Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. However, Harry Kane got his name on the scoresheet to keep Tottenham just about alive.

Incredibly, Ryan Mason’s men then fought back through Son Heung-min before Richarlison looked to have earned a point with a last-gasp header.

Despite having netted an equaliser in the 93rd minute, though, Tottenham still managed to throw away the point as Diogo Jota scored to make it 4-3 to Liverpool with seconds to play.

It was a chaotic end to a chaotic game and Spurs’ calamitous defending throughout did not help. At the heart of that, centre-back Dier didn’t come out of the game with much credit.

Indeed, he was slammed by Guest in football.london’s player ratings as he handed the Englishman a 3/10.

He also wrote: “[Cody] Gakpo ran off him far too easily for the second goal and was then lucky to get away with some really sloppy passing. Tottenham need so much better from him.”

Aston Villa's ten-game unbeaten run in the Premier League came crashing to an end last weekend as they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes' goal was enough to secure all three points for the home side on the day and Unai Emery's men now have an opportunity to return to winning ways this afternoon as they travel away to play Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Duran scored eight times and provided three assists in 14 starts, averaging a Sofascore rating of 6.91, in the division in 2022 and these statistics show that the potential is there for the forward to make a big impact in the final third.

The teenager, albeit in another country, has shown that he has the quality to score and assist goals in a professional environment in spite of his young age and the marksman could provide Watkins, who has scored 14 top-flight goals this term, with the support that Buendia has been unable to in recent weeks.

Now, imagine the £18m gem and the Englishman lining up against Wolves this afternoon and causing their troubled defence constant problems with their goalscoring threat.

Spectators wrapped in their loyalties watched the cricket and they did so with a concentration that precluded other activities. For this has all the makings of a classic Roses match, albeit more an exquisite hybrid tea than a sprawling floribunda.Yorkshire were in charge of the game when the third day began and they remain in control going into the final three sessions. A lead of 189 with seven second-innings wickets in hand at the start of play represented prosperity, and at just past three o’clock, when Jack Brooks was castled by Luke Procter, that affluence had been extended to 348.Happily for those who revere statistical symmetry, Lancashire now need to make their seventh-highest fourth-innings score to win a first-class game and Yorkshire must concede their seventh-biggest score to lose one. The argument that the rivalry between these teams is so fierce because their approaches to cricket are so similar has been insufficiently investigated. Suddenly it is strengthened by the quiddity of numbers.The odds, though, are by no means six to five and pick ’em. The visitors were weakened by the absence of Tom Bailey, whose side injury prevented him bowling. In consequence, 41 runs were added before Bresnan edged Procter to Liam Livingstone at first slip and departed in lofty dudgeon, having stood his ground in the belief the ball had bounced. That excellent slipper Livingstone, however, had already dropped Rashid on 10 off the same bowler; and the one he spilled may have mattered more than the one he pouched.Plunkett came to the wicket but there was no change in Yorkshire’s tactics.
