Everton are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr. 

The Lowdown: Sarr’s season so far

This season has seen the 24-year-old score six goals and deliver three assists in 17 Championship appearances, making him Watford’s joint top scorer.

Having then gone on to play in all four of Senegal’s World Cup games, scoring one goal in the process, Sarr will soon be back in action for the Hornets.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, the attacker has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.

The Latest: Everton eyeing Sarr

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Ignazio Genuardi revealed that Everton, alongside other English sides, could make a January move to sign the winger, who is set to see his current contract at Vicarage Road expire in the summer of 2024.

The Verdict: An exciting signing for Everton

In addition to his goals and assists in the Championship this season, the 52-cap Senegal international has also racked up more shots at goal (35) than any other player at Watford.

Also, only one other player at the club has delivered more crosses into the 18-yard box than Sarr (8), which further highlights how much of an attacking threat he carries.

Described as a “scary” player by Ben Foster, Sarr has 50 Premier League appearances to his name, across which he has scored 10 goals and delivered eight assists, which shows the top-flight experience he has and how quickly he could potentially settle in at Everton.

Taking all of this into account, we feel that signing the Watford star would be a very exciting signing for Everton and a rather necessary one given how only five clubs have registered fewer attempts at goal than the Toffees (157) in the league this season.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Leeds United are ‘actively looking at the January transfer window’ ahead of potential additions.

The Lowdown: Summer business

The Whites were certainly active in the summer transfer window, bringing in a number of players at a cost of £93m. However, the club actually made a £7.79m profit after selling both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha in big-money deals.

The Verdict: Exciting comments

Leeds have never tended to strengthen their squad in the New Year over the past five years, so O’Rourke’s comments are certainly exciting for Whites supporters.

Many would argue that Elland Road chiefs could have done with signing a new left-back and centre-forward in the summer due to the injury struggles of Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford.

Centre-back Pascal Struijk has frequently lined out at left-back, whereas Bamford has looked out of form, already missing nine big chances in the Premier League this season.

Struijk has impressed at left-back and is currently the club’s best-rated performer, as per WhoScored, but the club may look at adding to their central attacking ranks as they look to avoid another intense relegation battle.

The Lowdown: Vlasic dazzles…

The 2021 Hammers summer signing endured a tough first season under manager David Moyes at the London Stadium, starting just six Premier League games whilst only scoring a solitary goal (WhoScored).

The Verdict: Cheap as chips?

Given the former CSKA Moscow star’s form in Turin, West Ham may regret already agreeing an £11m option for Torino to sign him permanently.

Vlasic’s form right now is an indicator he could even come back to east London and prove a success for Moyes with the right attitude, but alas, if he continues this run, we believe it is likely Ivan Jurić will push his Torino side to seal a fairly cheap move.

The Verdict: Brilliant prospective signing

When looking at Maddison’s underlying statistics, it is easy to see why Howe is so keen on bringing him to St James’ Park.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the attacking midfielder ranks in the 94th percentile for non-penalty goals, the 90th percentile for shots taken and the 85th percentile for assists, marking him out as someone who can be highly effective in the final third.

Having been hailed as a ‘superb’ playmaker by broadcaster Arlo White, the 25-year-old would certainly add attacking flair to the Magpies’ midfield, based on the figures above.

Therefore, this would be a brilliant mid-season signing by Newcastle, and it would be a case of good things coming to those who wait.

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Harrison Ashby to Elland Road over the final hours of the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Alan Nixon, with The Sun journalist revealing in a recent post on his Patreon that Victor Orta is now plotting a late swoop for the West Ham United right-back – who Newcastle are also reported to be chasing in a £2.5m deal.

Regarding the Whites’ interest in the 20-year-old, Nixon said: “Leeds United are making a surprise late bid for West Ham right back Harrison Ashby. The Elland Road club have asked about promising Ashby who would have a better chance of a game for them. Another Orta steal

Considering just how exciting a prospect Ashby evidently is, should Orta manage to bring the right-back to Elland Road for anywhere near the reported £2.5m fee, it would undoubtedly represent another steal by the Whites’ director of football.

Indeed, the Spaniard is building an impressive reputation for signing some of the most exciting talents in English football at extremely reasonable prices, with the likes of Joe Gelhardt costing the club just £1.1m, Sam Greenwood setting Leeds back a mere £1.5m, Lewis Bate costing around £1.5m and Sonny Perkins arriving on a free.

He’s like a big unit. He’s only young, but he’s like a giant. Usually, you’re used to seeing smaller players in those wing-back positions, but he looked big, strong, he was very fearless, decent on the ball.”

As such, with Ashby looking to be an extremely exciting young player, signing the talent for a figure of just £2.5m would indeed appear something of a steal for the Whites – evidence that Orta is once again working his magic in the window as it rapidly draws to a close.

That’s according to a report by Football Insider, who claim that, despite Victor Orta being heavily linked with a move for the Southampton centre-forward in recent weeks, it is Nottingham Forest who now appear to be leading the race for the 26-year-old’s signature – with Steve Cooper’s side believed to have opened talks with Saints regarding a deal for the Scotland international.

The report goes on to state that the Reds are looking to add more firepower to their frontline ahead of the new Premier League season, while Leeds are looking to bring in support for Patrick Bamford up top, with both clubs having identified Adams – for whom Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are reported to be demanding a figure of £10m – as a suitable candidate.

Orta must now act

With the Whites’ Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon now just a little over 48 hours away, and, at present, Orta having yet to add a new out-and-out centre-forward to Jesse Marsch’s squad in the summer transfer window, time is very much running out for the Spaniard to seal a deal before the 2022/23 campaign kicks off.

And, with Forest now reportedly in talks with one of Leeds’ well-known attacking targets, Orta simply must join the Reds in the race for Adams’ signature if he truly does wish to bring the striker to Elland Road in the coming weeks.

As such, considering the fact that Adams clearly knows how to find the back of the net in the Premier League, in addition to it being reported he would cost an extremely reasonable £10m this summer, Orta simply must launch a move to rival Forest in their pursuit of the Southampton hitman in the coming days – or else the Spaniard could find himself empty handed come the transfer deadline on September 1.

Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez will arguably make up the Reds’ strongest new-look front-three next season, while Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are also key figures in their own right.

Antony would likely have to bide his time in order to earn minutes, so moving to United, where there are fewer world-class attacking options, still feels more likely.

The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for Camara in recent weeks, with an outlet in Austria going as far as saying a big-money transfer was ‘imminent’.

Leeds reportedly made a breakthrough in talks over the weekend in a deal that would have cost around £30m with bonuses.

However, it seems as if RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams will be the man to arrive at Elland Road, according to Romano, after a total £20m fee was ‘100% agreed’.

The Verdict: Both needed?

Kalvin Phillips is now officially a Manchester City player, so you’d expect Adams will come in and fill the void left by the boyhood Leeds fan.

However, Jesse Marsch will have just Adams and fellow summer signing Marc Roca as senior defensive midfielders, so you could make an argument that Camara is also needed at Elland Road.

Manchester Evening News podcaster Conor McGilligan believes Camara is already ‘on KP’s level’, so having options of Adams, Roca and Camara may well prove to be smart business, but it looks as if a move isn’t ‘imminent’ as reported over the weekend.
