Rangers could sign Raskin after Cantwell

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly ‘serious’ about bringing Nicolas Raskin to Ibrox ‘in the next few days’.

The Lowdown: Cantwell in?

Rangers reporter for The Athletic Jordan Campbell shared on Friday morning that the Gers are ‘close’ to completing the signing of Todd Cantwell from Norwich City, with an ‘agreement in place’ with the club and personal terms ‘sorted’.

He does not look to be the last signing that they will bring through the doors before the end of this month, with ‘talks ongoing’ over Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker and Michael Beale confirming they have ‘one or two’ new players in the pipeline.

The Latest: ‘Serious’ about Raskin

Taking to Twitter, Rangers insider The 4th Official, who regularly breaks news on their social media channels, says that the Gers are ‘serious’ about signing Raskin from Standard Liege ‘in the next few days’:

“Rangers are serious about getting Nicolas Raskin at the club in the next few days. This is according to several sources I spoke with including one at Rangers and one Belgian source.”

The Verdict: Get it done

After getting Cantwell and potentially Whittaker through the doors, Beale and the board should not stop there in terms of incomings, and should look to sign Raskin at all costs.

Hailed as ‘monstrous’ and a ‘leader’ by his manager Ronny Deila, he has played nearly 100 matches in the Belgian top-flight by the age of just 21, scoring five goals and supplying another 13 assists (Transfermarkt).

Journalist Bob Faesen has also noted how ‘technically gifted‘ Raskin is, while singling him out for his work-rate and saying that he can play in any position in midfield.

Nonetheless, both Cantwell and Raskin could form an exciting and formidable new partnership in the middle of the park, and could take the Light Blues to another level as they look to chase down bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

West Ham: Jones drops new Rice update

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is now ‘pretty set’ on leaving the club, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Rice’s West Ham future

The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move away from the Irons, but Chelsea are now said to have the edge in the race for his signature, given his previous affiliation with the club.

The same report from The Athletic also claims that Manchester City and Manchester United have both registered their interest, so there will be no shortage of Premier League options for the Englishman should he choose not to extend his stay at the London Stadium.

The Latest: Rice ‘pretty set’ on leaving West Ham

It appears as though the 23-year-old not committing his future to West Ham is now the likely scenario, judging by Jones’ most recent comments to GIVEMESPORT.

When asked whether some Premier League clubs now being interested in Sofyan Amrabat could help the Irons hold onto Rice, the journalist replied:“I don’t think so, no. Rice is pretty set, from what I hear from other people, on leaving West Ham no matter what happens. I don’t see much that could happen at other clubs or at West Ham that could change his mind.”

The Verdict: Blow for West Ham

It is no secret just how vital the midfielder is for David Moyes’ side, having averaged a 7.19 SofaScore rating in the Premier League last season, the highest of any player in the West Ham squad.

Despite the Hammers’ poor start to the campaign, Rice has gotten better, as indicated by a 7.27 SofaScore rating this term, with his all-round game a cut above the other players at the London Stadium.

An average pass completion rate of 90.2% over the past year places him in the 95th percentile compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues, while he has also weighed in with 1.84 interceptions per 90, which sees him rank in the 93rd percentile.

Losing a player of this significance would be a huge blow for West Ham, but given that he is contracted until 2024 – with the option for an extra year – the saving grace is that they will be able to hold out for an astronomical transfer fee.

Conor Townsend shone for West Brom

West Bromwich Albion cruised to an astounding fifth straight victory today as they brushed aside Rotherham United in front of an electric crowd at The Hawthorns.

Although it has not caused any shift in their actual position in the Championship table as the remain 16th, they are now within just five points of the play-off places and still boast a game in hand on most teams in the division.

There were plenty of outstanding players on show today, and Carlos Corberan has very quickly been handed selection headaches all across the field.

Albion did not dominate the ball, with possession split evenly, but they recorded 16 shots compared to just two for the visitors.

However, what is unlikely to change anytime soon is the defence, as this result marked the fourth clean sheet in West Brom’s last five games.

Although Jed Wallace might earn the plaudits for his match-winning goal and assist alongside his 8.7 Sofascore rating, it could be argued that Conor Townsend was the true hero for his boss this afternoon.

He has been at the heart of everything good at the back for the Baggies, with today being no different.

Earning the second-best rating (7.7) of anyone on the pitch, the 29-year-old made five tackles and three clearances in what was a defensive masterclass. This culminated in the eight duels that he won out of ten for which he competed, marking an 80% success rate.

However, what was particularly useful for West Brom today was his offensive exploits.

Boasting 86 touches, highlighting his constant involvement throughout the game, Townsend put this to good by making two key passes. He was also successful with the one dribble that he attempted, rounding off a near-perfect all-round display.

Once described as a “really productive and industrious player” by Baggies podcaster Chris Lepkowski, he proved exactly why today as the home fans were treated to a special showing from the full-back.

It seems that the tide has truly turned for the Midlands outfit, who have transformed their season ever since Corberan’s appointment.

The manager has miraculously shifted expectations back to a promotion dream and away from relegation fears, as he looks to go one step further than he did during last season’s success with Huddersfield Town, who came within a play-off final win of going up to the Premier League.

Everton eyeing Ismaila Sarr transfer

Everton are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.

The Lowdown: Sarr’s season so far

This season has seen the 24-year-old score six goals and deliver three assists in 17 Championship appearances, making him Watford’s joint top scorer.

Having then gone on to play in all four of Senegal’s World Cup games, scoring one goal in the process, Sarr will soon be back in action for the Hornets.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, the attacker has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.

The Latest: Everton eyeing Sarr

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Ignazio Genuardi revealed that Everton, alongside other English sides, could make a January move to sign the winger, who is set to see his current contract at Vicarage Road expire in the summer of 2024.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-8/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Genuardi also mentioned that Sarr could well be in the middle of a bidding war during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Verdict: An exciting signing for Everton

In addition to his goals and assists in the Championship this season, the 52-cap Senegal international has also racked up more shots at goal (35) than any other player at Watford.

Also, only one other player at the club has delivered more crosses into the 18-yard box than Sarr (8), which further highlights how much of an attacking threat he carries.

Described as a “scary” player by Ben Foster, Sarr has 50 Premier League appearances to his name, across which he has scored 10 goals and delivered eight assists, which shows the top-flight experience he has and how quickly he could potentially settle in at Everton.

Taking all of this into account, we feel that signing the Watford star would be a very exciting signing for Everton and a rather necessary one given how only five clubs have registered fewer attempts at goal than the Toffees (157) in the league this season.

Leeds: Pete O’Rourke makes January transfer claim

Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Leeds United are ‘actively looking at the January transfer window’ ahead of potential additions.

The Lowdown: Summer business

The Whites were certainly active in the summer transfer window, bringing in a number of players at a cost of £93m. However, the club actually made a £7.79m profit after selling both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha in big-money deals.

Jesse Marsch’s side have struggled in recent months but earned a surprise win against Liverpool last weekend to take them out of the Premier League relegation zone, and it looks as if the Yorkshire club are already preparing for the winter transfer window.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, O’Rourke was asked about Leeds’ transfer plans heading into 2023. He believes that the club ‘definitely’ need to strengthen and is sure they are ‘actively looking at the January transfer window’.

The journalist said: “I think they definitely need help in that squad. Jesse Marsch obviously had a great result at Liverpool, which has eased the pressure on him. But again, the pressure can soon be turned on, if results don’t go their way, so I’m sure they’re actively looking at the January transfer window to see what they can do.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-10/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Exciting comments

Leeds have never tended to strengthen their squad in the New Year over the past five years, so O’Rourke’s comments are certainly exciting for Whites supporters.

Many would argue that Elland Road chiefs could have done with signing a new left-back and centre-forward in the summer due to the injury struggles of Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford.

Centre-back Pascal Struijk has frequently lined out at left-back, whereas Bamford has looked out of form, already missing nine big chances in the Premier League this season.

Struijk has impressed at left-back and is currently the club’s best-rated performer, as per WhoScored, but the club may look at adding to their central attacking ranks as they look to avoid another intense relegation battle.

West Ham price ‘agreed’ as insider shares Vlasic update

West Ham United insider Claret & Hugh have moved to rebuff recent exits claims surrounding Nikola Vlasic, sharing an update on the Croatian.

The Lowdown: Vlasic dazzles…

The 2021 Hammers summer signing endured a tough first season under manager David Moyes at the London Stadium, starting just six Premier League games whilst only scoring a solitary goal (WhoScored).

As a result, West Ham saw fit to negotiate a 2022/2023 temporary spell away from east London with the 25-year-old joining Torino on a loan-to-buy deal.

Since completing the move, Vlasic has come on leaps and bounds in Serie A, currently ranking as Torino’s second-best performer by average match rating.

The attacker is also their current top goalscorer and sits in the team’s top two for attempts at goal and key passes made on average per game (WhoScored).

However, recent claims from Italy have suggested that Torino are still hesitant over taking up his option-to-buy – namely because of interest from AC Milan and a mooted £19 million price tag (Calciopolis).

The Latest: C&H share Vlasic ‘reality’…

After this rumour, Irons insider C&H have moved to share the ‘reality’ behind his situation.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news-5/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

They claim, via a key source, that the fee is actually around €13 million (£11m) and a permanent deal option price is ‘already agreed’ between Torino and West Ham.

The source in question told them:

“Once again it appears to be a case of news sources making up stories as there is no truth in a figure of £19 million.

“The reality is that a figure of €13 million euros has been agreed between the clubs.”

The Verdict: Cheap as chips?

Given the former CSKA Moscow star’s form in Turin, West Ham may regret already agreeing an £11m option for Torino to sign him permanently.

Vlasic’s form right now is an indicator he could even come back to east London and prove a success for Moyes with the right attitude, but alas, if he continues this run, we believe it is likely Ivan Jurić will push his Torino side to seal a fairly cheap move.

NUFC backed to sign Maddison in cut-price deal

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has backed Newcastle United to agree a deal to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison in January.

The Lowdown: Previous bids

The Magpies sought to bring the 25-year-old to St James’ Park this summer as they attempted to add a creative playmaker to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Whilst the first £40m bid was swiftly rejected by Leicester, the Tyneside outfit thought they would have better luck with their £50m offer. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side also rejected this proposal, holding firm on their £60m valuation of the player.

Having signed his latest contract extension with the Foxes in 2020, Maddison has just 21 months remaining on his deal at the King Power Stadium.

The Latest: Whelan’s claim

Whelan, who used to work as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, thinks that Leicester are more likely to cash in on Maddison in January, given their dreadful start to the season and the playmaker’s application amid the transfer speculation.

Speaking with Football Insider, the 47-year-old claimed: “I can definitely see it happening now with the start Leicester have had.

“He’s been very mature about it. He’s not kicked up a fuss, and I think Brendan Rodgers will appreciate that. He’s been putting in the performances and the effort – and you can see what a standout he is even if Leicester aren’t winning games.

“I can’t see them climbing too far up the league between now and January. With his contract running down, I think Leicester have got to capitalise on that. They need the money if they’re going to go out and buy players.

“He’d be a brilliant fit at Newcastle, I don’t think they have a player quite like him at the moment. He’s probably the missing piece of the puzzle which would give them the complete midfield.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-7/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Brilliant prospective signing

When looking at Maddison’s underlying statistics, it is easy to see why Howe is so keen on bringing him to St James’ Park.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the attacking midfielder ranks in the 94th percentile for non-penalty goals, the 90th percentile for shots taken and the 85th percentile for assists, marking him out as someone who can be highly effective in the final third.

Having been hailed as a ‘superb’ playmaker by broadcaster Arlo White, the 25-year-old would certainly add attacking flair to the Magpies’ midfield, based on the figures above.

Therefore, this would be a brilliant mid-season signing by Newcastle, and it would be a case of good things coming to those who wait.

Leeds: Orta interested in Ashby

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Harrison Ashby to Elland Road over the final hours of the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Alan Nixon, with The Sun journalist revealing in a recent post on his Patreon that Victor Orta is now plotting a late swoop for the West Ham United right-back – who Newcastle are also reported to be chasing in a £2.5m deal.

Regarding the Whites’ interest in the 20-year-old, Nixon said: “Leeds United are making a surprise late bid for West Ham right back Harrison Ashby. The Elland Road club have asked about promising Ashby who would have a better chance of a game for them. Ashby is willing to move but Hammers have an injury or two at the back and he is also needed for their homegrown quotas.”

Another Orta steal

Considering just how exciting a prospect Ashby evidently is, should Orta manage to bring the right-back to Elland Road for anywhere near the reported £2.5m fee, it would undoubtedly represent another steal by the Whites’ director of football.

Indeed, the Spaniard is building an impressive reputation for signing some of the most exciting talents in English football at extremely reasonable prices, with the likes of Joe Gelhardt costing the club just £1.1m, Sam Greenwood setting Leeds back a mere £1.5m, Lewis Bate costing around £1.5m and Sonny Perkins arriving on a free.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/leeds-transfer-news-deadline-day-lufc-the-whites-premier-league” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and so much more!”]

And, with Ashby very much appearing to be a player who boasts an incredible amount of potential, should Orta manage to add the Scotland U21 international to his ever-growing list of young recruits for a figure in the region of £2.5m, the defender could well prove to be one of the Spaniard’s best yet.

Indeed, the £270k-rated talent highly impressed for the Hammers’ U21 side last season, scoring two goals and providing five assists over his three outings in the EFL Trophy.

Furthermore, those in the know at West Ham clearly believe the right-back is destined for great things further down the line, with podcaster Sam Delaney previously stating of the defender: “He’s big as well. He’s like a big unit. He’s only young, but he’s like a giant. Usually, you’re used to seeing smaller players in those wing-back positions, but he looked big, strong, he was very fearless, decent on the ball.”

As such, with Ashby looking to be an extremely exciting young player, signing the talent for a figure of just £2.5m would indeed appear something of a steal for the Whites – evidence that Orta is once again working his magic in the window as it rapidly draws to a close.

Leeds: Orta dealt blow in Adams pursuit

Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their bid to bring Che Adams to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Football Insider, who claim that, despite Victor Orta being heavily linked with a move for the Southampton centre-forward in recent weeks, it is Nottingham Forest who now appear to be leading the race for the 26-year-old’s signature – with Steve Cooper’s side believed to have opened talks with Saints regarding a deal for the Scotland international.

The report goes on to state that the Reds are looking to add more firepower to their frontline ahead of the new Premier League season, while Leeds are looking to bring in support for Patrick Bamford up top, with both clubs having identified Adams – for whom Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are reported to be demanding a figure of £10m – as a suitable candidate.

Orta must now act

With the Whites’ Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon now just a little over 48 hours away, and, at present, Orta having yet to add a new out-and-out centre-forward to Jesse Marsch’s squad in the summer transfer window, time is very much running out for the Spaniard to seal a deal before the 2022/23 campaign kicks off.

And, with Forest now reportedly in talks with one of Leeds’ well-known attacking targets, Orta simply must join the Reds in the race for Adams’ signature if he truly does wish to bring the striker to Elland Road in the coming weeks.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-much-more” title= “Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, while the £16.2m-rated forward would by no means be the Whites’ biggest-name signing of the window, the Scot is a Premier League-proven option who would add substantial depth to Marsch’s options in attack.

Over his 30 top flight fixtures – only 23 of which came as starts – last season, the £52k-per-week hitman impressed for Saints, scoring seven goals, registering three assists and creating six big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.6 shots, making 0.9 key passes and completing 0.7 dribbles per game.

These returns saw the 26-year-old average a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 6.85 – a rating which, if the forward were playing for Leeds, would have ranked him as Marsch’s joint seventh-best player – alongside Kalvin Phillips – in the top flight of England football last time out.

As such, considering the fact that Adams clearly knows how to find the back of the net in the Premier League, in addition to it being reported he would cost an extremely reasonable £10m this summer, Orta simply must launch a move to rival Forest in their pursuit of the Southampton hitman in the coming days – or else the Spaniard could find himself empty handed come the transfer deadline on September 1.
