Liverpool are one of the suitors appealing to Benjamin Pavard ahead of a potential transfer move this summer, according to a report from Christian Falk, via Caught Offside.

How has Benjamin Pavard performed this season?

Having been with Bayern Munich for the last four seasons, he has been a part of domestic dominance which has seen them rack up four consecutive Bundesliga titles. He's had a key part to play in all of them too, never dipping below a total of 20 league outings for the side and he managed a further 30 for the club over the course of the 2022/23 season.

his led to the defender bagging himself four goals and one assist along the way. They're his best totals for the side since he initially moved to the club back in 2019/20.

The France international – who can feature as either a central defender or on one of the flanks – also ranks favourably against others in his position. When you look at his FBRef scouting report amongst centre-backs in the Men's 'Top Five' big leagues in Europe for example, he ranks within the top five percent on nearly every offensive stat that there is.

His 0.18 non-penalty goals per 90 puts him within the top one percent for example, as does his progressive passes rate per 90 of 7.59. It shows that Pavard has the passing ability and end product to perform a similar role to Trent Alexander-Arnold, creating attacks from deep.

Are Liverpool linked with Pavard?

It's previously been stated that Pavard could actually be on his way out this summer despite these impressive stats. Liverpool had been linked, only for the Reds to apparently not be prepared to make a move for him.

Now, in another twist, a new report from Christian Falk, via Caught Offside, has revealed that the Premier League outfit are actually one of four clubs still in the mix to make something happen.

There has been no "concrete" bid yet for the £116,000-a-week player but that the Reds are an intriguing proposition for him – as are Barcelona, Chelsea and Man City – and they've already spoken to his agents, claims Falk.

He's clearly still viewed in high regard, with football journalist Josh Bunting stating that a recent goal was "stunning" and "top class" from Pavard. The 27-year-old then still has plenty to offer a club and if Liverpool want to strengthen their backline and potentially mix up Alexander-Arnold's position next season, then they could do a lot worse than adding the Bayern Munich man to their ranks.

Spectators wrapped in their loyalties watched the cricket and they did so with a concentration that precluded other activities. For this has all the makings of a classic Roses match, albeit more an exquisite hybrid tea than a sprawling floribunda.Yorkshire were in charge of the game when the third day began and they remain in control going into the final three sessions. A lead of 189 with seven second-innings wickets in hand at the start of play represented prosperity, and at just past three o’clock, when Jack Brooks was castled by Luke Procter, that affluence had been extended to 348.Happily for those who revere statistical symmetry, Lancashire now need to make their seventh-highest fourth-innings score to win a first-class game and Yorkshire must concede their seventh-biggest score to lose one. In consequence, 41 runs were added before Bresnan edged Procter to Liam Livingstone at first slip and departed in lofty dudgeon, having stood his ground in the belief the ball had bounced. Wolverhampton Wanderers could see their January target, Geoffery Kondogbia, made available for a transfer in the summer from Atletico Madrid.

Are Wolves interested in Kondogbia?

It was reported over the January transfer window that the Premier League outfit were interested in the potential signing of the Central African midfielder.

Indeed, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted the following just a matter of weeks ago: "Understand Wolves approached Atleti for Kondogbia in January — PL clubs, monitoring him for July."

The 30-year-old is set to go into the summer market with just 12 months remaining on his current deal with Diego Simeone's side.

And this comes at a time when Wolves are expected to lose one of their main players with Ruben Neves reportedly set to leave the club in the summer.

In addition, their big-money signing, Matheus Nunes, has also been linked with a potential move away which could leave the Wanderers with a huge hole in the middle of the pitch.

However, it seems as if they could be handed an opportunity to bolster their squad with the expected availability of the former Inter Milan midfielder.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed the 30-year-old is now expected to be put on the market for a potential exit from the Metropolitan Stadium:

(14:25) "And then Kondogbia because, in January, Kondogbia had some opportunity. I heard he had something with Wolves and other clubs in the Premier League but Atletico decided to keep him. I think in the summer he could be one of the players to leave."

Could Kondogbia replace Neves?

Kondogbia's game time under Simeone has taken a major blow over recent weeks with the midfielder having not made it off the bench since January (via Transfermarkt).

The £116k-per-week ace has racked up 10 starts in La Liga and 16 appearances in total in the Spanish top flight but it has become apparent he is not in the plans of the Atleti manager.

In comparison, Neves has been a key figure in the Wolves side for a number of years now with the captain having made 28 starts in the league alone this season (via Transfermarkt).

Kondogbia has been hailed as a midfield "monster" in the past by former talkSPORT man James Dodds and it is clear to see why when he ranks inside the top percentile for interceptions made (via Fbref).

Caveated by the fact Kondogbia's game time has been much more constricted than Neves', the Atletico midfielder has offered more tackles per 90 minutes (3.36) than the Wolves midfielder (2.39) (via FBref).

However, the Wolves man has provided much more shot-creating actions (2.25) than the 30-year-old (1.12) which does highlight their differences in an attacking sense.

But it seems as if Wolves could face competition for the midfielder who could – at least defensively – provide a good option for Julen Lopetegui in the summer.

Arsenal’s academy production has kicked into overdrive of late, with a wealth of talent currently propping up the first-team exploits that see them sitting atop the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta must also earn credit, as a coach capable of embedding such unproven assets into the senior squad with such ease that they are unburdened by the pressures that these steps up bring.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and more all came as relative unknowns, but their youth was no barrier to their emergence into the top division.

Such is this golden pathway that has since been paved, many of their current academy stars are also now pushing for their opportunity to shine.

One such name who continues to crop up amongst their top Hale End prodigies is Charles Sagoe Jr, with the dangerous winger posing a threat to all full-backs he faces at the U21 level.

As such, the teenager could be seen as the natural successor to Leandro Trossard, who has enjoyed a fine start to life in north London but is far older than many of his attacking teammates, giving credence to the suggestion that his spot will be available in a few years time.

Who is Charles Sagoe Jr?

Billed as a 'livewire attacking player' with immense versatility by Arsenal’s official website, the 18-year-old marvel has truly shone this season in Premier League 2.

Boasting five goals and two assists, his scintillating work in the youth team even led to his place on the bench in Arsenal’s first-leg Europa League clash with Sporting CP.

Journalist George Addo Jr had taken to Twitter only last month to outline how Sagoe Jr’s displays had caught widespread attention too, writing: “Charles Sagoe Jr has been in fine form for Arsenal U21s all season. He's now Arsenal's leading scorer in Premier League 2."

Whilst Trossard has just one goal since signing in January, the 28-year-old more than makes up for his lack of potency with a fine injection of much-needed creativity.

In just 12 league appearances for the Gunners, the Belgian already boasts seven assists and was named the club's player of the month for March. Not bad for someone who's only been in north London a matter of months.

He will now be the player in which the budding stars of Hale End look at in order to hone their impressive skills and Sagoe Jr should be no different.

Indeed, the fleet-footed youngster boasts similar qualities to the former Brighton ace, with an unpredictable nature capable of causing carnage among opposition defenders.

That was notably picked up on by another Hale End graduate in Reiss Nelson, who spoke directly to the winger, noting: “I’ve been watching you, I watch a lot of the U21 games and literally, I’m not just saying this because you’re here, you have everything to be an Arsenal winger.

“You’re unpredictable, you can move on your left, on your right, you can score, you can assist, you’ve got everything.”

With this huge praise, and the pathway in sight to eventually take over from the offensive exploits of Trossard, Sagoe Jr should feel confident that his time in the senior spotlight is just on the horizon.

Leeds United are thought to be keen on signing Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom, according to talkSPORT.

The Lowdown: Seven goals in 11

The Whites have struggled in front of goal in over recent months under both Jesse Marsch and now Javi Gracia, scoring just seven times in 11 Premier League games since the restart after the World Cup.

An ankle injury to top scorer Rodrigo hasn’t helped things at Elland Road, with the club once again involved in another battle to avoid relegation.

Akpom, meanwhile, is having a season to remember and has scored 21 Championship goals in 28 games at an average of a goal every 105 minutes.

The Latest: Leeds keen

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook provided an update on Akpom in the last 48 hours, with Leeds receiving a mention.

The reporter said that the Whites, Crystal Palace and with Everton are ‘waiting to pounce’ for Akpom if Boro’s promotion push falls short, with the player out of contract at the end of the season.

The Verdict: A gamble?

Akpom is certainly having a brilliant campaign and has been hailed as a ‘fantastic’ striker by former Boro caretaker boss Leo Percovich.

However, this is the first time in his career that he has hit double figures for senior league goals in a season, so there is no guarantee he’d be able to continue his fine form in the top flight.

Leeds also tend to move for younger players in recent years, so it’ll be interesting to see if they look at a possible free transfer for Akpom, 27, providing they remain in the top flight over the coming months.
