Everton fans react as Alex Iwobi breakthrough is made with Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed by the BBC’s David Ornstein that a fee in the region of £35m – £40m has been agreed with Arsenal for Alex Iwobi.

The Nigeria international scored three goals and recorded six assists in the Premier League for the Gunners last term, but the north Londoners appear to be happy with the money on offer and are prepared to let the 23-year-old leave the Emirates Stadium.

The signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille may have pushed Iwobi down the pecking order, and the Toffees have wasted no time in lining up the attacker after their pursuit of Wilfried Zaha fizzled out.

The Ivorian was sent home from training today by Roy Hodgson and the former England manager also confirmed that the 26-year-old would be staying at the club, so Marcel Brands appears to have quickly moved for an alternative.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

A deal sheet has been submitted to the Premier League in order to get the transfer over the line.

Let’s see how the Everton fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

Manchester United: Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala deal being discussed with Juventus

The reputable journalist has revealed Dybala has not yet made a decision about his future although it is claimed he wants a ‘super contract’ on a ‘top wage’, with the Premier League outfit having to improve their offer.

Manchester United are also thought to have asked about the availability of Mandzukic as well. Juventus are thought to be open to letting the former Croatia international leave but they will only sell him as part of the swap deal between Romelu Lukaku and their Argentine star.

Dybala’s name has been linked with Manchester United amid a swap deal for Lukaku for some while as the Premier League outfit proposed the idea to Juventus, according to claims by Tuttosport (via Sport Witness). However, Mandzukic being included in the deal could be something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks about strongly.

In regards to the Argentine, the 25-year-old has been clinical in front of goal throughout his career, especially when deployed as a secondary striker. In 182 games for Juventus, Dybala has scored 78 goals and provided 30 assists (via Transfermarkt), with 43 goals in his 93 appearances coming in that particular role.

His versatility is something that can appeal to Solskjaer as well (who is thought to be a huge admirer of the South American), as he would provide him with a number of different attacking options in the final third of the pitch. As noted by WhoScored, he can be utilised as an attacking midfielder and be rather effective. In his six games there, he provided Juventus with two goals and one assist, whilst managed to produce an average of 1.7 key passes per game and 1.7 dribbles.

Add in the experience of Mandzukic and what he can bring to Old Trafford, Manchester United’s goalscoring woes of last season might become a distant memory. They managed just 65 in the Premier League and finished fifth in the rankings just ahead of Chelsea in terms of goals scored but the Croatian could help improve that number.

Although he is entering the final stages of his career at 33-years-old, the forward has been prolific in front of goal for every club he has been a part of. Over his illustrious career, Mandzukic has managed to find the back of the net on 188 occasions in his 476 career appearances to date (Transfermarkt).

Marcus Rashford might be Solskjaer’s first-choice striker, but adding a player of the veteran’s calibre could help to take him to the next level of his game as he could learn from a player who has won almost everything available throughout his glowing career wherever he has gone.

As detailed by Transfermarkt, Mandzukic can also play in a number of different positions like Dybala, which could also work in tandem with the 21-year-old currently playing at Old Trafford. As noted by WhoScored, the Croatian bagged nine goals and six assists in his 25 Serie A outings last season, including an average of 1.2 shots and 1.2 key passes per 90 mins, although his dribbling skills left plenty to be desired (0.2).

However, whether he is worth bringing into the club at the expense of Lukaku is something that needs to be thought about as the Belgium international’s stats may suggest otherwise. He scored 12 goals in the Premier League last season, according to the figures collected by WhoScored, he managed an average of 1.7 shots per game and provided his team-mates with less than one key pass a match (0.7). But, his stats continued to get worse the further you delve into them.

He completed less than one dribble per game (0.7), he was found offside 0.7 times – perhaps that had something to do with the extra weight and how unfit he was as Gary Neville alluded to in his scathing attack of the forward? – whilst his ball control was far from solid.

Having been dispossessed 1.4 times on average per game and making an average of 1.6 bad touches per match it is hardly any wonder as to why a number of fans were quick to tear into him on social media on a number of occasions (including his birthday).

Manduzkic’s name being thrown into the mix is an intriguing development and, as mentioned, it might be worth Manchester United thinking strongly about, especially if they can land Dybala at the same time.

The duo, on paper, certainly look like individuals that can offer Solskjaer the additional goal threat they lacked last season, whilst one could bring a certain amount of experience whilst the other would bring a South American flair to the side that could help them in the final third of the pitch.

Whether any deal like this happens remains to be seen, especially with Romano detailing plenty that still needs to happen, but with just days to go in the transfer window, it will surely be an interesting watch.

Newcastle fans react as Emil Krafth becomes their latest summer signing

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle’s deadline day began with the news that Jacob Murphy could depart on loan to Sheffield Wednesday but it has since sprung to life with the arrival of a new body.

Through the doors of St James’ Park has walked right-back Emil Krafth who arrives from Amiens.

The Sweden international has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, becoming their latest permanent addition after Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin were also snapped up.

However, his arrival has caused mixed reactions from the Toon Army who were quick to respond to their new signing on Twitter.

One fan joked that he was the Swedish Cafu whilst another said he looked like a big lad.

The 25-year-old also caused a bit of a stir. A further supporter said signings like this one was why they’d end up playing in the Championship next season. One bemoaned the addition, saying they needed a striker instead.

Krafth arrives for a reported fee of £5m and has been capped 20 times by his country. The defender also appeared at the 2018 World Cup and was in action against England in the quarter-final.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Performance in Numbers: Liam Lindsay ideal signing for West Brom’s new manager

[ad_pod ]

Ahead of what is a huge summer for West Brom, they could be left staring down the barrel of a mass exodus.

Technical Director Luke Dowling has already revealed that a number of players may have to leave in order to cut back on their wage bill.

Among those to go through the exit door could be two defenders. Craig Dawson has already been the subject of a report linking him with Burnley whilst they could also lose Kieran Gibbs.

Despite the options they’ve had in defence they still weren’t particularly solid last season but there is a player who could be capable of solving that issue.

Last week The Scottish Sun claimed that West Brom were showing an interest in Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay.

The Scot has been a rock for the Tykes and although playing in League One last term, he could be the perfect man to solve a number of problems.

Firstly, he could put whoever becomes the new manager at the Hawthorns instantly in supporters’ good books, especially judging by his first season in the Championship.

During the 2017/18 campaign, a season where the Reds were relegated, the 23-year-old was particularly solid.

Defending for large parts of each match, his reading of the play was impressive. On average, he made 1.5 interceptions.

In comparison, no other West Brom centre-back made more during the 2018/19 season.

Lindsay’s no-nonsense nature is one aspect that stands out above anything else. He made six clearances per match whilst also winning 4.5 aerial duels during his debut campaign in England.

Both stats come close to arguably Albion’s best defender, Ahmed Hegazi.

Assessing his statistical data from the last time he played in the Championship, it’s clear he’d be an astute signing, especially judging by how he matches up against those already at the club.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

Should he arrive, there’s a case to be made for him being central to the new manager’s rebuild.

It may not be a signing to rave about, but adding individuals of this quality will be imperative in proving that they can recruit players for the level of football they now play in.

After their poor business in the January transfer window, landing a centre-back like Lindsay could go a long way to proving to supporters that the new manager actually knows what he’s doing.

Encouraging signs: Man Utd’s move for Dan James signals interesting shift in plans

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are closing in on a £15m deal to sign Swansea winger Dan James.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Red Devils are close to agreeing terms with the Swans over a swoop for the Welshman, who only made his international debut this year under the guidance of former United legend Ryan Giggs -James managed to find the back of the net on the day as well.

The 21-year-old is about to see his maiden season in the Championship side’s first team come to a close, having spent the previous campaign playing in the Premier League 2 with the youth team.

Will OGS still be in charge of Man Utd come next May? The Flying Pig discusses in the video below…

James came close to leaving the Liberty Stadium in January, and even travelled to Elland Road for a medical with United’s bitter rivals Leeds before Swansea pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute.

With five goals and ten assists to his name across all-competitions for Graham Potter’s side this term, James has been one of the standout stars in the Swansea team.

An encouraging shift in transfer plans for United

For so long, United have been obsessed with signing the big stars, the glitzy names, those who make the headlines week in, week out.

The likes of Paul Pogba, arguably one of the world’s most marketable footballers, have arrived at Old Trafford for huge fees and on astronomical wages, but it is these types of characters that are detrimental to the club right now; other players such as Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao have arrived due to their pedigree, but have been the wrong fit.

It has been years since United signed a little known player who would be willing to run through walls for the club and give his all, with too many egos playing for themselves being signed in recent windows that have created a toxic atmosphere around Old Trafford.

James would arrive with plenty to prove, and with bags of ability and potential in him, the move to sign a player for a minimal fee and presumably on a respectable contract could be a masterstroke by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward.

Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson doesn’t really need declining Mohamed Diame

In this transfer window, centre-midfield will be a priority for Crystal Palace due to how exposed Luka Milivojevic had been to attacking opposition pressure in the season just gone.

Indeed, it’s probably fair to say that Roy Hodgson struggled to find the perfect combination, with James McArthur nor Cheikhou Kouyate not overly consistent enough to help on a long-term basis.

Over the season, the Eagles were vulnerable through the middle and lost the midfield battle way too many times. As a result, Hodgson wants to sign a midfielder who can add steel or bite to his really rather flimsy midfield. So, according to reports from Turkish outlet Sabah (via Sports Witness), they’re aiming to sign Mohamed Diame from Newcastle United.

However, they face stern competition from West Ham United and Fenerbahce for the 31-year-old.

Frankly, it’s a terrible idea.

While Diame’s full of Premier League experience, he’s not the ideal man to solve Palace’s problems. The former Senegalese international has grown weary in recent times, becoming slow and unattentive to dangers in the midfield battle. Overtaken by more dynamic options on Tyneside, he’s barely covered himself in glory.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why the centre-midfielder was rotated around by Rafa Benitez at Newcastle last season. The 31-year-old just isn’t the vibrant, relentless presence he once was anymore and ends up being outwitted by clever, cuter midfielders too often. Indeed, Diame’s contributions in attack are almost nonexistent, as he failed to net or assist a goal last season.

He isn’t the best defensively either, landing the Magpies into trouble with his lapses in concentration in midfield. The Eagles need someone who can help create a powerful midfield pivot with Milivojevic, while also adding attacking flair. Unfortunately, Diame’s not such a dynamic player anymore, as he’ll make their midfield even more static.

Palace fans, do you think Diame could be a good fit with Milivojevic? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Sheffield United: Wilder must consider summer swoop for Neal Maupay

When Sheffield United announced that they had signed Gary Madine on loan from Cardiff City in January, their supporters had every right to feel a little bemused.

Not only had the 28-year-old forward failed to score a single goal for the Bluebirds in the Premier League but he was also considered somewhat of a cult hero by the Blades’ city rivals Sheffield Wednesday for helping the Owls achieve promotion in 2012.

Nevertheless, with Chris Wilder’s side facing a gargantuan battle with Leeds United for second place in the Championship, Madine knew that by firing in the goals for his new side, his previous escapades would have been consigned to the history books.

However, despite showing glimmers of his talent against the likes of Reading and Millwall, the forward has been far too inconsistent for the Blades over the past four months and therefore it would be a mistake signing him on a permanent deal.

Instead of bringing in Madine, Wilder should be looking towards trying to secure the services of Brentford’s Neal Maupay. According to the Star, the 51-year-old is reportedly a big fan of the Bees forward who has lit up the Championship this year by scoring 24 goals for his side.

Whereas the Greater London-based outfit will be playing in the second tier next season after missing out on the play-offs, the Blades will be embarking on their first Premier League campaign for 12 years in August and therefore could be an attractive prospect for Maupay to consider.

Although some would argue that splashing out a considerable fee on the former Saint-Etienne forward would be a risk considering that he is no previous experience of top-flight football, his outstanding performances for Brentford suggest that he is more than ready to make the step-up.

With United needing to make decisive moves in the transfer window when it opens in July, Wilder should make it his number one priority to bring the £9m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) to Bramall Lane as he could prove to be the all-important difference between survival and relegation next season.

What do you think Blades fans? Should Wilder go all-out to sign Maupay? Or is there another forward that he should be targeting in the summer? Let us know below.
