Spurs enquiry now made to sign Pedro Neto

According to a report by 90min, Tottenham Hotspur have now made an enquiry to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto alongside the likes of Liverpool and Juventus.

The Lowdown: Molineux raid?

Since Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival and appointment as new Spurs boss, the Lilywhites have been linked to a few Wolves stars as the Portuguese sets sights on raiding his old club.

As per talkSPORT, both Daniel Podence and Willy Boly are names who Nuno could swoop for and try to sign for Spurs this summer.

Elsewhere in the team, they have also been linked with defender Conor Coady, with 90min now namedropping Tottenham alongside another star at Molineux.

The Latest: Spurs make Neto enquiry…

Indeed, according to the outlet, Spurs have now made an enquiry to sign Neto alongside the likes of Liverpool and Juventus.

As well as Tottenham making an approach, it is also claimed that Wolves are tempted to sell him this summer amid all the interest in his services.

Wolves owners are indeed ‘open’ to letting any of their star men leave, though it would take a bigger offer to seal Neto’s signing.

They hadn’t previously been listening to offers for the exciting 21-year-old, but interest from top clubs all over Europe, including Spurs, is apparently now making them contemplate.

The Verdict: Most exciting one yet…

Amid the plethora of Wolves players linked with a move to Spurs, we believe Neto comes as the most exciting one yet.

As per WhoScored, the young starlet was Wolves’ joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League last season and also notched the most assists.

He also averaged more shots per 90 (2) than any other member of their squad with over 10 league starts – all while completing the most key passes per 90 (2) for Wolves (WhoScored).

Lauded as a ‘phenomenal talent’ by Gabriel Agbonlahor, who raved over him to Football Insider, it’s safe to say the £31.5 million-valued ace would be quite a coup.

Everton transfer update on Glen Kamara

Many Everton fans have been left buzzing as a transfer update emerged on Glen Kamara.

As per a report from earlier in the week from Eurosport, which has since been shared by Toffee TV on their Twitter page, the Goodison Park outfit are among a number of clubs pursuing the Rangers midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Brentford, Watford and an unnamed team in Russia are also interested in his signature after impressing at Euro 2020 with Finland.

Kamara ranked highly among his Finnish teammates in terms of average tackles (1.3), interceptions (3.3), passes (52.3), pass success (87.9%) and long balls (1.7) per game in the group stages (Whoscored), where they had to play the world’s highest-ranked team in Belgium and eventual semi-finalists Denmark.

The Toffees would have no doubt been keeping an eye on his performances, and it seems that a lot of their supporters want the club to snap him up.

These fans were buzzing as the transfer update was shared on Twitter, with one Evertonian saying that Kamara is an ‘excellent’ player:

“He’s not the easiest on the eye in possession, but on the occasions I watched Rangers I was very impressed with him. Reminded me a lot of Doucoure. Ticks a lot of the boxes we need ticking, even if he’s not a stand out signing.”

Whelan on Everton talks with White

Noel Whelan has given his reaction to Everton reportedly holding talks over a move for Ben White in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: White talks

As per The Daily Mail, the Goodison Park faithful have held talks with Brighton and Hove Albion over a deal worth up to £55m for White.

The proposal reportedly trumps the £46m offer made by Arsenal, Graham Potter’s team are looking to hold out for £50m+ to sell the central defender.

The Latest: Whelan reacts

Whelan, a pundit and former Leeds United striker who watched White play at Elland Road when he was on loan there in the 2019/20 season, has since given his reaction to the news to Football Insider, claiming that White would be a great signing for the Merseyside club:

“Yeah, absolutely huge.

“He’s one of those natural, modern-day centre-halves that covers everything. He’s got pace, he’s good in the air, he’s great on the ball and with the ball at his feet.

“He can play into that defensive midfield role as well. We keep saying adapting to different roles and that’s why Gareth Southgate has him. It’s not just as a centre-half.

It doesn’t surprise me. Everton know how important it is to have these British players as well in their side. Definitely, Rafa Benitez will.

“Whoever gets him is getting an absolutely amazing, long-term centre-half. I’m sure he’ll be in the England setup for many, many years.”

The Verdict: Sign now!

With the Gunners still lurking, the Toffees must act now if they are serious about securing White’s signature.

A player that is so versatile, the central defender is equally as comfortable playing at right-back in addition to the defensive-midfield position, which is such a good quality to have with another long season ahead.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-updates-4/” title=”Everton updates! (4)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

His call-up to the England squad for Euro 2020 by Gareth Southgate shows just how much progression he has made and what an impressive campaign he has just had, and at just 23 years of age, White could be the starting centre-back at the Blues for years to come.

Liverpool linked to Milinkovic-Savic

Liverpool must swoop for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer after being linked with a move for the 6 ft 3 gem.

What’s the story?

According to Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Jurgen Klopp’s charges view the 26-year-old as the ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum following the Dutch international’s departure.

The report states, however, that it would take a “monstrous” offer to prize Milinkovic-Savic away from the Stadio Olimpico as he still has three years remaining on his current contract.

Edwards masterstroke

After a hugely underwhelming 2020/21 campaign, Liverpool have already started rebuilding their first-team squad ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Ibrahima Konate has arrived via a £34 million move from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, and the next addition through the Anfield doors could arrive imminently.

A new central midfielder is thought to be high up on Klopp’s wish list following Wijnaldum’s exit, with the likes of Saul Niguez, Nicolo Barella and Florian Neuhaus previously being linked.

But a new transfer target has now emerged in the shape of Milinkovic-Savic, and his arrival could have the biggest instant impact of them all.

The Serbia international looks a perfect fit for the Premier League. His size and stature would ensure the physical demands of the English top-flight would pose no problems for him, while his quality speaks for itself.

Although he was unable to fire Lazio into the Champions League qualification spots, Milinkovic-Savic still managed a highly impressive eight goals and 10 assists in 32 Serie A appearances last season.

He was central to everything that the capital club did, as his underlying numbers clearly show.

The £63m-rated powerhouse recorded 1.3 key passes per league game in 2020/21, made 54.1 passes on average per league game, and had two shots on average per league game as well, meaning he placed in the top three amongst his teammates for all three metrics.

Once described as a “complete midfielder” by Sky Sports journalist Anton Toloui, Milinkovic-Savic could be the perfect addition to the Liverpool engine room.

Acquiring his signature would represent a genuine masterstroke from director of football Michael Edwards, and his presence alongside Thiago and Fabinho in the centre of the pitch could see Liverpool regain their Premier League crown next term.

And, in other news…Edwards must act to sign “unplayable” £154m gem for Liverpool as competition lessens

Villa can get Douglas Luiz upgrade in Ward-Prowse

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith could sign a major Douglas Luiz upgrade in Southampton and England star James Ward-Prowse this summer.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from The Guardian, the Villa manager is keen on landing Ward-Prowse in the transfer window, and given his performances for the Saints, he would be a real better option for the Midlands side than Luiz.

Better than Douglas Luiz

Hailed as a “machine”, Ward-Prowse enjoyed a superb campaign with the Saints last season, scoring eight goals and providing a further seven assists in the top-flight.

And, speaking exclusively to FFC, former England defender Carlton Palmer said that signing for Villa would be a good move for the midfielder, claiming:

“Villa are going for it. They’ve just managed to sign Buendia. Villa are a big, big club, and have a top manager in Dean Smith. So, from Southampton to Aston Villa, I think that’s a good move. And with Grealish there, I don’t expect Grealish to be going anywhere.

“He’s getting a very good squad of players there, and they could be challenging top six or top seven next season, so that would be a good move for him.”

Rated at £60m by CIES, Ward-Prowse comfortably betters Luiz in a lot of the key midfield metrics, not least when it comes to goals and assists – the Brazilian managed no goals and just two assists in the top-flight.

As per Whoscored, the Saints man also appears to be better defensively than Luiz, averaging far more tackles and more clearances while also making fewer fouls and being dribbled past fewer times per game too.

Those stats point to Ward-Prowse being the kind of tigerish midfielder who can help out when pressing and who can put his foot in, but one who is not reckless by committing needless fouls or simply being ran past too easily.

And then, when you add in his attacking contributions, the England international shines considerably more than Villa’s current midfielder.

Johan Lange could sign a real upgrade on Luiz in Southampton’s Ward-Prowse this summer, if he can get a deal done.

Meanwhile, Duncan Castles has dropped an exciting Aston Villa transfer claim…

Fry claims West Ham fans wouldn’t forgive Declan Rice if he left

Since bursting on the scene during the 2017/18 season, Declan Rice seems to have improved in every game he plays in.

Last season was a standout one for the 22-year old who captained West Ham for the majority of the campaign, and Barry Fry believes that Hammers fans would not be able to forgive him if he left this summer.

With great performances comes a lot of transfer speculation and that has not been any different for Rice who appears keen on a move to Manchester United this summer, and the pull of Champions League football will be huge for him.

Rice is currently on international duty with England and impressed against Croatia, however during the previous international camps it has been reported that he was speaking to Man United players such as Harry Maguire and Dean Henderson about life at the club ahead of a potential exit this summer.

Having come through their academy, West Ham fans would hate to see someone their club has nurtured and given a chance to leave and they may struggle to forgive him if he pulled on a different club’s shirt. That’s according to Fry, who spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“I can’t see David Moyes and the two David’s who own West Ham letting Rice go because he is a man mountain for them and he even played the opposition on his own sometimes last season.

“The West Ham fans would never forgive him, even if they got £100-150 million for him, they’d never forgive him because he’s one of their own.”

With West Ham failing to qualify for the Champions League last season it will put them in a far worse position to convince Rice that the London Stadium is the right place for him to play his football and continue his development.

If Rice continues to flourish at the Euros for England, then the Hammers may be able to bump up any potential price tag they would put on his head as he will be doing it in front of millions of people.
