Wolves transfer update on Traore

Many Wolves fans have been left to fume as a transfer update emerged on Adama Traore.

Speaking on the Europe Is Blue Podcast, The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law has claimed (via Talking Wolves) that Chelsea have a ‘definite interest’ in the Spain international, and believe that the Midlands club could sell him for as little as £20-25million.

Although Traore had a disappointing 2020/21 season by his standards, with a mere six goal contributions in 41 games in total over all competitions, the campaign before that he was nothing short of electric, notching up six goals and 12 assists (Transfermarkt).

Considering in last summer’s window his price was much more inflated as well, with reports even going as far as him being valued at £135m, to sell the winger for only £20-25m, especially to a Premier League rival, does seem a little too low.

These members of the Molineux faithful fumed as the exit news was shared on Twitter, with one WWFC supporter even going as far as to claim that it was ‘ridiculous’:

Crushing win moves Lymington into promotion charge

Lymington propelled themselves into the heart of the Southern Electric Premier League, Division 2 promotion race with a comprehensive 109-run victory over United Services at the Sports Ground

Mike Vimpany (as published in Daily Echo)21-Jul-2002Lymington propelled themselves into the heart of the Southern Electric Premier League, Division 2 promotion race with a comprehensive 109-run victory over United Services at the Sports Ground.Zimbabwean skipper Danny Peacock led the way for Lymington, top scoring in the New Forest club’s powerful 265-9 and then taking four wickets as United Services dipped to a disappointing 156 all out in reply.Lymington’s sixth successive win sets up a titanic Rose Bowl duel next Saturday against the Hampshire Academy, who maintained the Division 2 leadership with a four-wicket success at Rowledge. But Easton & Martyr Worthy are second – three points behind the Academy – after beating Old Tauntonians & Romsey by six wickets.Lymington asserted their authority during the afternoon session, but initially were never entirely comfortable with 265-9, particularly after their own record-breaking 286-run chase against Hungerford a fortnight ago."After what happened in the Hungerford game, it was in the back of my mind that we might not have scored enough," Peacock admitted."But I backed our bowlers, particularly Aaron Heal and myself, both spinners, who I knew would be difficult to get away."Lymington motored merrily along at four an over from the start, with Peacock’s second-wicket partnership with Heal providing the platform for a sizeable total. The young Western Australian left-hander didn’t time the ball as sweetly as he might have liked, but hit nine fours in an effective 57 before departing at 112-2, just after the mid-innings drinks break.Peacock and Ben Craft (42) ran well, really upping the anti and taking advantage of the fast outfield as Lymington moved menacingly to 202-2, with nine overs left. But Peacock, who struck a six and seven fours in a fluent 75, and Craft departed in quick succession as United Services created middle-order inroads."I thought the lads came back well at that stage, taking four wickets for only six runs," said skipper Gary Hounsome. But Lymington reasserted themselves through youngsters Ian Young (27) and Matt Molloy (23), who plundered 48 runs off the last five overs as the total advanced to 265-9 off 50 overs.Zimbabwean wicket-keeper Warren Gilmour bagged four catches, all off Damian Carson, who finished with a rather expensive 5-74 off ten overs."I must say we fancied ourselves at tea. It was a great batting track, even though 266 was a lot to get."But we batted poorly, with all ten batsmen giving their wickets away. Bad shots got us out," Hounsome confessed.US came out of the traps at breakneck speed – only to lose university pair Tom Clarke and James Robson to consecutive Trevor Phillips deliveries.Their dismissals – Robson was bizarrely caught first ball at long-leg – set the tone for Services, who were clearly looking to the unwell, but nonetheless impressive Pete Andrew to fire their challenge.Andrew, suffering from a bout of food poisoning, punished Phillips and left-armer Martin Hunt with a host of boundary shots. But soon after Lymington switched from seam to spin, US began to buckle.Peacock, bowling off-spin, removed Hounsome (23) at 88-3 and then got the vital break at 104-4 by removing Andrew for a forceful 57.The Services batsmen contrived to offer up catches all around – Peacock finishing with 4-33 and Heal, varying his flight and line, taking 3-40 as the Portsmouth side sank to 156 all out in the 35th over."To be all out with 15 overs left was little short of scandalous," Hounsome complained. "It just summed up the way we batted, but there was no doubt the better side won on the day."

Man City should sign Ramos

Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos left the Spanish club earlier this week and having been linked with Manchester City in the past, sporting director Txiki Begiristain should sign him for Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.

After bringing an end to his 16-year spell with the La Liga giants, where he would win a plethora of honours including four Champions League titles and five La Liga titles, Manchester City have been named by ESPN as the front runners in the race for the Spanish centre-back this summer.

The report claims that whilst Real Madrid were unwilling to offer him a two-year deal to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, City could offer him a two-year deal to play under Guardiola at the Etihad.

Whilst Ramos is now 35-years-old, he would bring a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Citizens, which could prove vital if they are to end their hunt for success in the Champions League next season.

Although he would go off injured in the final against City, Chelsea’s signing of fellow veteran centre-back Thiago Silva proved to be a masterstroke this season and he more than earned his one-year contract extension recently, so perhaps Ramos could have a similar impact at the Etihad next season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-manchester-city-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Manchester City transfer rumours and news!”]

Ramos missed much of last season through injury but emphasised his quality when he was on the pitch, averaging a solid 6.96 rating from WhoScored for his performances in La Liga, whilst his five appearances in the Champions League earned him an impressive 7.20 average rating.

Of course, City already have an impressive number of options at centre-back including Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake but they could learn from Ramos’ immense experience should he arrive at the Etihad this summer.

The Spain international has proven himself, again and again, to be “world-class” throughout his career and whilst his playing days might be coming to an end, he can still be a massive addition for City this summer both on and off the pitch, so Txiki Begiristain must consider bringing him in after his Real Madrid release.

Ryan Sessegnon could save Spurs millions

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as their next manager.

The 48-year-old will be the man tasked with replacing Jose Mourinho in the dugout whilst the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ takes his fellow countryman’s place at AS Roma.

He’ll have a mighty task on his hands, not at least because he was thought to be the club’s sixth choice for the role.

Fonseca will arrive in North London knowing that his star striker Harry Kane wants to leave, the futures of several players are up in the air, the defence needs a major overhaul and much of the deadwood needs to be moved on.

However, he does meet the key criteria set out by chairman Daniel Levy, who very early on in the process – some six to seven weeks ago – was said to desire an ‘attack-minded’ head coach who could commit to the development of the club’s young stars.

In the former Shaktar Donetsk boss, they get just that.

Fonseca’s Roma side may have struggled to pick up results on the pitch but their style of play has drawn plenty of plaudits, ranging from The Athletic’s James Horncastle describing them as the league’s “entertainers” alongside Atalanta and Sassuolo, to Portuguese journalist Alex Goncalves once dubbing it as “stylish football.”

Ryan Sessegnon would have been one player Levy had in mind for next season and, following a successful loan spell at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, he’s surely in line to play more regularly for Spurs’ senior side.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-manager-gossip-transfer-rumours-team-and-injury-updates-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, manager gossip, transfer rumours, team and injury updates and more!”]

Indeed, if Fonseca unleashes the versatile wide man next season, he could save himself, Levy, and the club several millions in the transfer market.

What makes the 21-year-old gem so appealing is his ability to play anywhere down that left flank, and given the Portuguese has often gone to a three-at-the-back wing-back system, the youngster could provide backup to Sergio Reguilon.

The futures of Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Gareth Bale are all up in the air, meaning that Spurs could have a shortage of out-and-out wingers going into next season. Again, Sessegnon solves this problem.

Now valued at just over £16m by Transfermarkt, the England under-21 international must step up if given an opportunity. It’s time for him to deliver on the huge potential with which he has always been touted throughout his short career to date.

“He is a big, big talent. The sky is the limit for him. He may become one of the world’s best in his position,” claimed Sessegnon’s former Fulham teammate Stefan Johansen. “He is an incredibly down to earth person who works hard every day. His future seems very bright.”

Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen has described him as a “highly talented and fast wide player, with a strong left foot.”

If he gets the Spurs job, Fonseca must look to develop the young dynamo next season. In the process he could save the club millions – or at the very least invest those funds in another area, such as the defence.

AND in other news, Paratici could land Spurs a perfect Kane replacement in £26m-rated beast who’s “so crazy”…

Maguire: Wages will be an issue for Paulo Fonseca at Tottenham

Tottenham’s reluctance to pay big wages could make it difficult for the club to compete against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool under Paulo Fonseca, warns football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

After a slight decline over the last couple of seasons, finishing seventh and scraping a Europa Conference League place in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, Tottenham supporters will be hoping for improvement during Fonseca’s reign.

The former AS Roma boss is set for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dugout next term following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, with the 58-year-old now at Fonseca’s old stomping ground.

Maguire, though, has his concerns over the north London club’s ability to compete, with their Premier League rivals currently able to attract better players due to the wages they are willing to hand out.

“It’s just whether they’re willing to start to pay wages to players that are more attractive when they’re trying to recruit,” The Price of Football author said in an exclusive interview with FFC.

“Historically, Spurs have been significantly behind the two Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea. And, also, they’re even quite far behind Arsenal in terms of wages. Spurs’ wage bill is £45m below that of Arsenal.”

While the above is a concern, Fonseca can take inspiration from the earlier part of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham spell, where he was able to guide his side to finishes inside of the top three and have them competing for the title despite not having the same financial muscle as some of their rivals.

Hampshire Cricketers to wear numbered shirts in Championship

Hampshire Cricket will break with tradition once again this summer – by wearing football-style shirts in the Frizzell County Championship.

Simon Walters (Daily Echo)07-Apr-2002Hampshire Cricket will break with tradition once again this summer – by wearing football-style shirts in the Frizzell County Championship.Chairman Rod Bransgrove has already succeeded in turning Hampshire County Cricket Club into Hampshire Cricket, the cricketing arm of the county circuit’s first public limited company. And last month a public offering of shares was made in Rose Bowl plc with Bransgrove and chief executive Graham Walker hopeful of raising £5 million. But the decision to wear named and numbered shirts in the four-day game is not unprecedented.Lancashire had them on the back of special fleece shirts last year and pioneered the idea with safety pins more than 50 years ago.Now Robin Smith’s men will follow suit, although traditionalists will be pleased to know that the woollen jumpers will remain the same as the names would become unreadable once put through the wash!Chairman Rod Bransgrove first unveiled the plan at the AGM two months ago but Hampshire Cricket have now been given the go-ahead by the ECB and the players will wear the shirts for the first time when they begin the season at Kent in 13 days’ time.Director of cricket Tim Tremlett said: “Lancashire used numbered shirts in the championship last year where it went down particularly well with members and players.”I gather they are used a lot in South Africa as well and they have obviously been a success in the one day game.”Players are quite hard to distinguish from the stands and batsmen can be particularly hard to make out when they are wearing helmets so this should be a great help to spectators.”It also means that the players will have no excuse for picking up the wrong shirt in the dressing room!”

Celtic: Hoops set to miss out on Mat Ryan

Celtic and Ange Postecoglou look set to miss out on Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The Lowdown: Hoops’ promise

Celtic were linked with a move for the Australia goalkeeper just three days after Postecoglou was confirmed as Hoops boss, with Ryan the 54-year-old’s number one at the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Asia Cup.

The Hoops were readying a long-term contract package for the ‘keeper who Graham Potter called ‘fantastic’, as well as the promise of the number one shirt at Parkhead.

However, it now seems as if Ryan won’t be reuniting with Postecoglou in Glasgow, despite being a top target.

The Latest: Sociedad move

According to The Scottish Sun, Real Sociedad are set to win the race for the 29-year-old. The La Liga side look set to bring Ryan to Spain on loan with a view of a permanent deal next year.

The report claimed that they’ve stolen a march on Celtic, with a move set to go through this week.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-8/” title=”Celtic updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: What will Postecoglou do now?

Postecoglou will now have to decide whether or not to stick with what he has or target a new first-choice shot-stopper.

Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard are the options Postecoglou has at his disposal, with the latter of the three wanted by Dundee on loan.

Neil Lennon gave all three ‘keepers the chance to make the position their own, chopping and changing throughout the previous campaign.

If Postecoglou doesn’t pursue a new number one, hopefully he can get a good look at all three options prior to the campaign beginning and will then put his faith in one man, which could then form the base of a solid defence under his leadership.
