Palace fans react to Eze images

Eberechi Eze has been pictured behind the camera at Crystal Palace’s training ground.

Eze has yet to play for Palace this season, having suffered an Achilles tendon injury at the back end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Injury expert Ben Dinnery told Football Insider this week that Eze will now be ‘in and around those training pitches and moving to the next phase’ of his rehabilitation.

He ‘should be able to go out on the grass and undertake some light jogging’, he adds.

The 23-year-old is predicted to be back in action at some point next month.

Just how big will Eze’s return be?

Based on his performances in his first season at Selhurst Park, it will be a significant boost for Patrick Vieira.

Eze led the Palace squad for assists (six), key passes (1.3 per 90) and dribbles (1.9 per 90) last season (via WhoScored).

Palace fans will be keen to see how he links up with new signings like Conor Gallagher and Odsonne Edouard.

Here’s how supporters reacted as the official club Twitter account posted ‘Ebs content to bless the timeline’.

Lucas Digne suffers hamstring injury

Everton have suffered a big injury blow ahead of their Premier League encounter with West Ham United on Sunday week after Lucas Digne picked up a hamstring injury on international duty.

What’s the word?

The 28-year-old was called up to Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the Nations League finals but will now return to Merseyside after playing no part in their semi-final victory over Belgium.

A club statement read: “Lucas Digne has withdrawn from the France squad due to a minor hamstring injury. The Everton left-back will return to USM Finch Farm to be assessed by the Club’s medical team.

“Digne was on the bench for France’s 3-2 Nations League semi-final victory over Belgium in Turin on Thursday night and will now miss the world champions’ final clash against Spain on Sunday.”

Rafael Benitez will be gutted

Although the severity of Digne’s injury has not yet been confirmed, it seems likely that he’ll miss the Toffees’ next clash against high-flying West Ham on Sunday 17 October.

If the left-back is deemed unavailable for selection, Everton manager Rafael Benitez will be left feeling gutted at his enforced absence given the defender’s importance to the club. Digne has played every minute of the Merseysiders’ top-flight campaign so far this season, captaining the side in their last three matches.

His magnificent form has played a pivotal part in Everton’s impressive displays of late, with Benitez’s men sitting pretty in fifth position after collecting 14 points from seven games, and his attacking influence is evident in his match average of 1.9 key passes, the joint-highest in the Toffees’ squad.

The visit of the Hammers is set to be one of their toughest tests yet, though, and they’ll be hoping that Digne recovers in time to play some part against the capital club. If he misses out, Everton will be deprived of one of their main attacking outlets and most trusted players.

Everton injury news on Onyango

Lots of Everton fans have been left buzzing as Tyler Onyango returned from injury to play in an Under-23s’ game on Tuesday night.

As per the official website of the Goodison Park faithful, Onyango played in 82 minutes of the team’s 4-2 comeback win against Leeds United, after he sustained a serious ankle injury in an FA Youth Cup tie all the way back in April.

The central midfield player returned to full training just two weeks ago following six months of rehabilitation, and was rewarded with what manager David Unsworth described as a ‘great’ performance against the Whites.

Onyango made his senior debut for the Merseyside club in the FA Cup last season, and with Abdoulaye Doucoure now out injured, there may be a chance for him in the first team under Rafa Benitez.

Hayward joins Derbyshire

Derbyshire have signed Nantie Hayward, the former South Africa quick, until the end of the season to strengthen their seam attack after losing Charl Langeveldt to injury

Cricinfo staff02-Jun-2009Derbyshire have signed Nantie Hayward, the former South Africa quick, until the end of the season to strengthen their seam attack after losing Charl Langeveldt to injury. His arrival is subject to obtaining a visa, but head of cricket John Morris said it was important to bolster the fast-bowling resources. “After the disappointment of losing Charl Langeveldt for the season, it was very important that we brought in somebody to strengthen our bowling department.”Although we have got some great young talent and some fine bowlers already at the club, there is a lot of cricket to be played this year and a squad of bowlers is always needed.”With that in mind, to be able to get somebody of Nantie’s experience at such short notice is a timely boost for the team.”Hayward, who has 431 first-class wickets, has had previous county spells with Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire.

Benkenstein rescues champions as bowlers dominate

Dale Benkenstein continued his impressive form as he cracked 136 to help Durham fight back from 104 for 5 to close on 318 for 7 against Sussex at Hove. Sussex’s bowlers made the best of testing conditions early on, and 84 for 3 at lunch soon became something more serious for the champions as two wickets fell straight after the resumption. But Liam Plunkett (65*) and Benkenstein, who scored 181 last week against Somerset, added 148 for the seventh wicket, before Benkenstein fell in the closing overs.Worcestershire’s batting woes continued as they were bundled out for 167 by Lancashire at New Road. Glen Chapple took 6 for 34 and Sajid Mahmood claimed 4 for 65 as the home side folded in less than two sessions. The pace pair reduced Worcestershire 36 for 4 with the new ball as Chapple removed both openers – Stephen Moore caught at short leg first ball and Daryl Mitchell lbw – and Mahmood had Vikram Solanki caught down the leg side. Moeen Ali and Steven Davies began a recover as they added 88 for the fifth wicket, but when Ali was caught behind off Chapple the innings folded and the last six wickets fell for 43. Lancashire didn’t find batting much easier as Chris Whelan claimed the top three, but Mark Chilton and Steven Croft steadied the innings with a positive stand of 68 before Croft was trapped lbw by Matt Mason. Chilton reached the close unbeaten on 51 as the visitors moved into a five-run advantage. For a full report of Warwickshire against Yorkshire at Edgbaston click here. For a full report from Nottinghamshire against Somerset at Trent Bridge click here.Division TwoWhile events at Lord’s dominated the headlines, a few miles to the south the lowest of low-key London derbies was taking place, and a Mark Ramprakash hundred gave Surrey the edge against Middlesex as they closed on 290 for 5 at The Oval. Ramprakash rarely fails to perform well against the county he left under a cloud – he averages a tad over 100 against them – and his unbeaten 126 held together Surrey, whose batting so far this summer has been as suspect as Ricky Hatton’s chin. With Usman Afzaal (82) he posted 143 for the third wicket, but late wickets from Tim Murtagh and Alan Richardson ensured Middlesex ended the day on a high.Kent’s finances might be a more parlous state than Ireland’s, but their members briefly forgot their county’s woes as two 19-year-olds bailed their side out against Glamorgan at Canterbury. But for 87 from Sam Northeast and 90 from Wayne Parnell, Kent would have got nowhere near their final total of 282. Northeast, who was only called up when Joe Denly fell ill with a migraine, held together the top of the innings after Kent crashed from 63 for 0 to 84 for 5, and made the most of being dropped off the third ball of the day. One of those to fall in the collapse, Darren Stevens, was later found to have fractured a finger on his left hand after being struck by a lifter from Garnet Kruger and will be out for a month. When Northeast went caught behind, James Tredwell (59) and Parnell added 151 before Parnell’s dismissal – to sharp return catch by Robert Croft, heralded the loss of the last four wickets for no runs in nine deliveries. However, Parnell wasn’t quite finished as he had Gareth Rees caught in the slips, Glamorgan closing on 27 for 1.Wickets tumbled at Bristol where Leicestershire were bowled out for 133 and Gloucestershire limped to 75 for 4 by the close. Former Zimbabwe international Anthony Ireland, only drafted in because of injury, did the bulk of the damage with 6 for 31 as Leicestershire, who were 83 for 0, lost all their wickets for 50 runs after the ball had been changed for going out of shape. Gloucestershire soon found themselves wobbling on 20 for 3 before staging a slight recovery. Alex Wyatt, making his Championship debut, impressed with 2 for 22.Essex also lost their bearings after making a good start against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road, slipping from 94 for 0 to 221 all out. Former South Africa seamer Andrew Hall, who came on third change, took 5 for 29 in two spells, triggering the collapse and then polishing off the tail. Northants reached 63 for 1 by the end, losing Niall O’Brien to the last ball of the day when he got a leading edge off Graham Napier to mid-off.

Agents could gift Spurs a Vlahovic boost

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), it appears the agents of Dusan Vlahovic could now gift Fabio Paratici and Tottenham Hotspur a much-needed boost as news emerges on a top target.

The Lowdown: Vlahovic eyed by Spurs…

According to numerous reports, both Spurs and Paratici certainly haven’t given up the chase for Vlahovic despite faltering in their bid to sign him over the summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-developments/” title=”Spurs developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, Calciomercato recently claimed that the 21-year-old is still a top target for Spurs while reporter Ekrem Konur says that the Lilywhites are even preparing an eight-figure bid (Twitter).

Now, some news has emerged on Vlahovic’s future which could be of real interest to Tottenham supporters.

The Latest: Agents could gift Spurs boost…

As per La Gazzetta (via SW), Fiorentina’s new deal discussions with Vlahovic’s representatives aren’t exactly going swimmingly – with his agents now ‘postponing the discussion on the possible new contract to the end of the year’.

It is also believed that this would put La Viola in serious danger of losing him for a cut price given he will have just 18 months left on his current contract by that point.

One major obstacle to finding an agreement is the release clause issue, which Vlahovic’s agents do not intend to raise over €60 million (£51.8m).

This fee would not protect Fiorentina in any way given that fee was tabled in the last months of the summer market, with the report saying both Spurs and Atletico did just that.

Indeed, going by this development, Paratici could go back in for the striker at an affordable cost depending on developments.

The Verdict: A timely boost…

As this report makes a £51.8m release clause claim, it will undoubtedly come as a big boost for Paratici and Spurs as they refuse to give up on Vlahovic.

At that price, he would surely come as a welcome asset given the player’s prolific 21 goals in Serie A last season and tag as one of the most exciting players in Italy.

Of course, if his club are able to raise that clause then he may simply be moved out of Paratici’s reach at Tottenham, so there is no doubt the Lilywhites’ transfer guru will be delighted with the latest update.

ICC decision unjust – Intikhab Alam

Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan coach, has said that the move to strip Pakistan of the rights to host the 2011 World Cup is “unjust” and a blow that, he said, would be hard to overcome.”I am hugely disappointed,” Alam said in Dubai. “Pakistan has been singled out for security, which is unjust and has hit our cricket with a big, big blow that will be hard to overcome for years.”The ICC executive board made its decision following a meeting on Friday, citing the “uncertain security situation” in Pakistan in the aftermath of the Lahore attack on March 3, when six policemen and two civilians were killed as gunmen fired at the Sri Lankan team bus. The ICC had also added that Pakistan was unlikely to resume hosting any tournament at all until 2011. India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who are the other co-hosts for the World Cup, will now stage all the matches.Alam, however, said this was unfair as he felt the security situation in the three other countries hosting the competition was also “not good”, and that the scenario in Pakistan could improve with two years still to go.”India had to move their high-profile league because of security fears,” he said, referring to the IPL, which was moved to South Africa as the competition clashed with India’s parliamentary elections. “We couldn’t tour Bangladesh as there were security fears in the wake of military mutiny. The situation in Sri Lanka is not good, either, with Tamil (rebels) fighting a war against the Sri Lankan army. So why does only Pakistan suffer?”[The ICC made] a hasty decision because the World Cup is still two years away and things are getting better in Pakistan… They should have waited for a few months.”Alam, who is currently in the UAE for Pakistan’s ODI and Twenty20 series against Australia, said his players were shocked at the ICC’s decision. “When the players got to know about it, they were shocked. They are sad to play their cricket away from their home, away from their fans and now they will have to play their World Cup matches elsewhere.”

Langeveldt ruled out for season

Derbyshire have announced that Charl Langeveldt has been ruled out for the remainder of the summer after he aggravated an old shoulder problem playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.Langeveldt returned to the Cape Cobras yesterday morning where he was told he required an immediate operation and would be out for four to five months.Derbyshire were reluctant to allow him to play in the IPL, and to make matter worse the injury came in his only outing in the competition.”Obviously this is devastating news not just for us but also for Charl,” the county’s head of cricket, John Morris, said. “Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing we can say or do which will change the outcome.”
