The PCB has introduced a revamped domestic one-day tournament, called the Pakistan Cup, to replace the existing Pentangular Cup. The tournament will be played between five provincial teams, starting April 19 in Faisalabad.The format will remain the same as the Pentangular Cup, but the process of picking players has been altered – the traditional selection process has been replaced with a draft system. It will allow a pre-announced captain and coaches to pick their 15-man squads from a list of 150 cricketers in 15 rounds. There was no reason given for the selection process being changed.The five teams from the five provinces – Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a team from Federal Capital of Pakistan – will remain the same. The PCB announced Azhar Ali will lead Balochistan, Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq will lead Federal Capital, Younis Khan will take the reins of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shoaib Malik will captain Punjab and Sarfraz Ahmed will lead Sindh.The draft took place in Lahore, where Punjab picked Salman Butt as their opening batsman while Sindh went for Mohammad Amir. Mohammad Asif, however, was not picked by any of the five teams. Mohammad Hafeez, who is suffering from a knee injury, remained unavailable for selection. In order to promote young cricketers, each team had to pick one regional Under-19 player in their 15-man squad.The Pakistan domestic structure has been inconsistent for decades with changes occurring every two years. Their domestic season starts in August with Grade-2 tournaments, and ends with the limited-overs tournaments by March. The PCB had introduced a completely new first-class system in 2015 and the announcement of the Pakistan Cup reflects the varying nature of planning in the domestic set up. The BCB has lifted the temporary suspension of fast bowler Shahadat Hossain, imposed last year, on humanitarian grounds

Shahadat will be eligible to play domestic cricket but not international cricket until his legal problems are resolved; he is likely to play in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.”The BCB’s disciplinary committee has taken the decision to withdraw the playing ban on Shahadat from humanitarian considerations following an appeal by the player,” BCB chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said. “The ruling, effective from today, is applicable for participation in domestic cricket only. He will not be considered for national team selection until his legal issues are settled.”Shahadat expressed his gratitude to the board and said that he was “fully fit”, although he hasn’t played competitive cricket for over a year.”I felt really bad missing out on so much cricket, but I am thankful to the BCB for letting me play, and always helping me in my bad times,” Shahadat said. “I tried to work on my fitness even when I was in jail. Now I am fully fit and I can bowl at my full strength. It is still not confirmed for which club I will play. I have been training for a long time with Mohammedan Sporting Club, so I could play for them. Or it could be any other club too.”Shahadat had been suspended in September 2015 after a case was registered against him and his wife under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on charges of assaulting their housemaid. They were arrested on October 5 and were granted bail in December.Shahadat had appealed to the BCB in April this year for permission to play in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, but the board’s disciplinary committee turned him down. AJM Nasir Uddin, the disciplinary committee chairman, had also said Shahadat would remain suspended unless the court dismissed the case. His name had been listed in the B+ category of the tournament roster subject to withdrawal of the suspension.Shahadat’s last appearance for Bangladesh was in May 2015, in the second Test against Pakistan in Mirpur. He bowled only two balls in the first innings before suffering a knee injury that ruled him out for six months, during which time he was charged for assault and suspended.

Shahid Afridi has been branded an “absolutely clueless” captain in a report submitted by Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam in the wake of the team’s poor World T20 and Asia Cup campaigns.The document by Intikhab, which follows an equally scathing report by coach Waqar Younis, covers the back-to-back T20 tournaments where Pakistan managed just three wins out of eight matches – with one of those victories coming against UAE. They exited the World T20 at the Super 10s stage following defeats against India, New Zealand and Australia.The five-page report, a copy of which has been obtained by ESPNcricinfo, is hugely critical of Afridi’s on-field tactics and off-field leadership, the lack of skills in all departments of the squad and how they became involved in “needless controversies” during the World T20, though Intikhab said the coaching and support staff performed their duties “most diligently”.”These very same reasons continued to be Team Pakistan’s bugbear, but since this was a global tournament with the top-most competing for honours, the magnitude of the stress, and the pressure was even more pronounced,” Intikhab wrote.”The recent Asia Cup and the ICC World T20 have made it evident that we have critical gaps both in batting and bowling, and our fielding keeps on leaking runs, thus releasing pressure. In bowling, with the exception of Mohammad Amir, we do not have a bowler who can win us matches. Our death bowling also is way below par. And the same goes with our batting line-up, where we do not have reliable pinch hitters and the top and power hitter to clinch us games.”

Intikhab’s recommendations

• Strict selection criteria must be formulated, with a marks scale for each (such as form, statistical record, ability to adapt and being a team player).

• In order to improve fitness, the free period between now and the England tour, should be used for a training camp to improve fitness and fielding.

“To cap it all, the tournament was being held in India, where the team was under multiple scanners at the same time, pushing the stress and anxiety levels very high,” Intikhab said. “Much to our chagrin [added to the above reasons], was a captain in his farewell event after a career spanning nearly 20 years, yet absolutely clueless in terms of on-field tactics and off-field leadership.”Afridi’s captaincy was a regular topic of debate throughout the two tournaments. His decision-making came under scrutiny when Pakistan controversially dropped Wahab Riaz in favour of Anwar for the Asia Cup match against Bangladesh. Then there was the surprising move when Afridi promoted himself to No. 3 in the World T20 match against India at the expense of Mohammad Hafeez, who had made 64 off 42 balls in the previous match against Bangladesh, with Afridi subsequently scratching around for 8 off 14 deliveries.In the field, too, questions were often asked. Against India, defending 118, Pakistan had made early inroads through Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Sami before a 61-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh for the fourth wicket took the game away. Amir, who conceded just three runs in his first two overs, was taken off and brought back when the game was all but lost, in the 14th over.Intikhab continued: “We were also set back by two absolutely needless controversies, the first emanating from Afridi’s ‘more-loved-in-India-than-in-Pakistan’ statement in his mandatory on-arrival press conference [had he stuck to the detailed briefing given to him by the media manager and myself, this would not have occurred] and Umar Akmal again stealing the limelight in an unseemly manner by seeking Imran Khan’s intervention to fix his batting position at three, when he had done little to inspire confidence at number 4.”Pakistan won their opening game of the World T20 against Bangladesh comprehensively, and regained some confidence after a poor showing in the Asia Cup, when they posted 201 to set up a 55-run victory at Eden Gardens. However, in the high-octane atmosphere against India they fell to a six-wicket defeat and were then comfortably beaten by New Zealand and Australia.Intikhab’s report focused heavily on the game against India where he said “many factors were at play” including Pakistan’s poor record against their “arch-rivals” at ICC events and he highlighted the rain in the lead-up to the match which had a considerable impact on conditions before referring to the invite handed to Imran Khan to address the team.”On the day, the events also conspired against us. For one, the weather didn’t help. On the same square where the Pakistan batsmen gave a commanding performance against Sri Lanka [the warm-up match] and Bangladesh, the weather suddenly turned from sultry and sunny to wet and unpredictable. Intermittent rain during the night prior to the game, followed by further downpours and overcast skies, meant that the pitch and outfield remained covered for more than 24 hours, changing its character from slow in pace to a spitefully turning and gripping one.”To prop up the team’s morale, Shahid Afridi invited Imran Khan (then in India for his own media and other engagements) for a pep talk prior to the game. Imran for his part tried to lift the morale, advising the boys to stay positive till the last ball was bowled, and never allow the possibility of defeat enter their consciousness. It was a pretty decent one as far as pep talks go, but it was evident that Imran – not unlike many outstanding exponents of the game from his time who have not stayed abreast with it – was not too familiar with the demands and tactics employed in this condensed, post-modern format of the game.”I also felt if proper field placing was placed for Shoaib Malik in his initial over may have given us a breakthrough; it was very surprising to see in a low-scoring game there was no attacking field-placing. There was no slip; had he employed a slip cordon for Malik, we may have had Yuvraj as two chances from his blade went through.”Earlier our batting, too, had left much to be desired. Hafeez was not sent in at number three while Sarfraz too did not get a meaningful strike. These two were our best bets, as they were our prime exponents against spin. The Indian spin attack was not challenged at all by our batting, save Shoaib Malik near the closing stages, resulting in a total that was 20 runs short of the average on the Eden Garden turf.”To support his criticisms of the batting order, Intikhab referenced various statistics including that of all the deliveries that Pakistan faced at the World T20, Sarfraz Ahmed only played 17 of them despite having made scores of 41, 25, 58 and 38 in his four T20I innings leading into the tournament. Intikhab termed the use of Sarfraz “a critical waste of talent and form.”He was also highly critical of Umar Akmal’s returns, writing that his figures “are a damning expose on his game awareness and sense of responsibility” and said that Ahmed Shehzad, who had been recalled shortly before the tournament, was “equally poor.”In response to claims of factions forming within in the team, Intikhab said: “The news of groupings in the team only emerged after the team’s loss to New Zealand. It may have been fed from inside the team only to divert attention and shift blame from the captain’s and other boys’ failure.”In my opinion, to alleviate our situation in shorter formats of the game, we have to make a comprehensive plan at the Board level. And this includes improving our selection methods. Pick-up, drop, pick-up routine has not helped us at all, neither has bowing down to player power nor hanging on to the so-called ‘talented mavericks’ who refuse to learn, evolve and deliver.”

After being inserted, Gazi Group made a decent start but from 63 for two, they collapsed to 110 for 8. Only captain Alok Kapali hung around to make a 67-ball 48; he was the last man out in the 38th over, as Gazi Group were bowled out for 141. The two other wickets went to Habibur Rahman.Mohammedan lost Ezaz Ahmed early but Upul Tharanga and Shykat Ali added 76 for the second wicket to keep the chase on track, before Naeem Islam and Ariful Haque took them home in 31.5 overs.Kalabagan Krira Chakra secured their first win of the tournament by beating Cricket Coaching School by 49 runs in Fatullah. The win was set up by Hamilton Masakadza’s 104-ball 115, which included ten fours and two sixes. Opener Shadman Islam chipped in with 47 off 63 balls as Kalabagan made 270 for 9. The bowlers then, led by Abdur Razzak kept CCS to 221 for 8.Having been sent in, Kalabagan lost Jashimuddin early, but Islam and Masakadza laid a strong base with a 74-run partnership for the second wicket. After Islam offered a return catch to Rajin Saleh in the 18th over, Masakadza combined well with Tasamul Haque for a 77-run stand. Masakadza pressed on to score his seventh List-A century, also his second in the Dhaka Premier League, having made one in 2013. Nasum Ahmed took three wickets while Salman Hossain and Uttam Sarkar claimed two each.CCS began positively in the chase, with opener Pinak Ghosh and Saif Hasan taking their side to 89 for 1 by the 22nd over. Razzak then had Ghosh caught by captain Mashrafe Mortaza and a ball later, the left-arm spinner pinned Salman Hossain lbw for a duck. Mashrafe complemented Razzak by picking up two wickets.Legends of Rupganj picked up their second victory in the competition by thumping Kalabagan Cricket Academy by 29 runs (D/L method) in a rain-affected match at the BKSP-3 ground.Batting first, Rupganj posted 239 for 9 in 50 overs with Asif Ahmed top-scoring with 82 and Sajjadul Haque making 70. Asif and Sajjadul revived their side’s innings with a131-run sixth-wicket after Rupganj had slipped to 81 for 5 in the 24th over. Seamer Abu Jayed took four wickets while Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Rifat Pradhan took two each.Rain reduced KCA’s chase to a 25-over innings, and their revised target was 171. Tony Irish, the executive chairman of FICA (Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations), has expressed his concerns over some of cricket’s anti-doping regulations following the ICC’s withdrawal of disciplinary proceedings against Kusal Perera.
“We are pleased that the right result has been achieved and welcome the decision, however, this case brings to light several issues in regard to anti-doping regulation in cricket” Irish said in a statement.
“The damaging impact of the error on Kusal’s career is not to be underestimated. He has been removed from the game for a significant period of time in the middle of a developing career, for reasons which have been found to be unjustifiable.
“The case highlights many of the pre-existing concerns held by FICA and athlete representatives around the world around the inflexibility and unfairness of the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) code, the requirement for sports to be compliant and its appropriateness for sophisticated team sports such as cricket. We have voiced these concerns to the ICC over the past year, and will seek to discuss this further.
“The concerns raised have included the view that the WADA programme is ineffective in safeguarding the interests of clean athletes and is open to penalties being imposed on players who are not ‘cheats’.
“FICA is supportive of fair, proportionate and appropriate measures to ensure that cricket is a clean sport. However, the game must ensure that any measures are effective and tailored to the game of cricket.”

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) could not rule out further legal action after the ICC withdrew its charges against wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera, board president Thilanga Sumathipala said. SLC is unlikely to initiate a lawsuit against the ICC, but was hopeful that the funds expended in clearing Perera will be covered by the governing body. The Qatar-based lab whose findings led to Perera’s five-month suspension will also come under scrutiny.”We have to definitely get our costs back,” Sumathipala said. “By that I mean the direct costs. The indirect costs are colossal. So we will discuss that separately.”Sumathipala said the board had spent at least 13 million rupees (approx. USD 92,000) on the case. This included the money spent on a polygraph test on Perera, a hair analysis commonly used in forensics and a separate urine test, the results of which all helped leverage Perera’s case and bought his legal team time. SLC had also paid for the consultation of UK-based Morgan Sports Law firm, during the challenge on the lab’s findings.Sumathipala said the board would discuss the matter with Perera and the nation’s sports ministry before any further action is decided upon.”We got the hard part right and now we have a definite claim, now that we have proved our player is innocent,” Sumathipala said. “I’m sure Sri Lanka Cricket will go forward and discuss with ICC. We can’t sour the relationship also. If the sports minister has a directive that is separate, we want to discuss that as well. Definitely the player has a claim.”Sumathipala also likened the results of Perera’s case to Muttiah Muralitharan’s campaign to have his action, and later his doosra, cleared by the ICC. On that occasion, Muralitharan’s action proved a catalyst for further scientific testing, which ultimately led to a landmark change in the ICC’s playing conditions – specifically, 15 degrees of flexion was deemed legal, as almost all bowlers were found to straighten their arms.In addition to consulting local and foreign legal teams, SLC and Perera’s management also approached chemical pathologists and independent lab operators for their views.”We decided to go the scientific route,” Sumathipala said. “We have seen SLC do the same thing in the past with the straightening of the arm issue. We did it after Murali was no-balled in Boxing Day 1995. Then we did it again when the doosra was banned. Once we concluded that route, we were that much stronger with the ICC.”Prompted by our scientific evidence, we have taken the ICC to a different level about how they should process this kind of situation in the future. We’re happy about that. We’ve taken an approach that we’re not sure anyone has taken in the past. We were very happy.”Sumathipala said the board believed in Kusal from the outset. His board had initially set aside five million rupees to fight the case, but that figure was repeatedly revised upwards.”We spoke about this at the board and we decided that we trusted him, and that he was telling the truth. We decided to represent him as best we can. We thought that we would be able to get him cleared, so we set aside 15 million rupees to spend on him, which is unprecedented for this board.”Perera is eligible for selection for Sri Lanka with immediate effect, but the selectors have not yet decided whether to add him to the Test squad currently in England.

Anualmente, o Corinthians desembolsa milhões de reais nas categorias de base. Além da infra-estrutura criada ao lado do CT Joaquim Grava, do pagamento do salário dos atletas, comissões técnicas e demais funcionários, o Timão investe na profissionalização do setor. Mesmo assim, é impossível a formação de atletas dar prejuízo ao clube do Parque São Jorge. A afirmação é de Fernando Yamada, gerente-geral da base alvinegra.

Nesta segunda parte da entrevista concedida ao L!, o ex-goleiro e hoje dirigente revela como o Corinthians atua na captação de novos atletas para a categoria de base e explica o porquê do clube adotar uma postura agressiva no mercado com os jogadores mais de menor idade (na faixa dos 13 e 14 anos).

LANCE!: O custo do departamento de base do Corinthians é alto?
Yamada: Não que seja alto, mas é o valor que os grandes clubes gastam. Posso dizer que não é barato. Costumo falar que a base é impossível dar prejuízo para um clube grande. Hoje, você tem condição de recuperar o valor investido através do mecanismo de solidariedade (ferramenta criada pela Fifa na qual o clube formador pode receber até 5% do valor total de toda transação futura do atleta formado na base durante toda sua carreira profissional). O departamento internacional também faz parte do nosso projeto. Sabemos que nem todos os jogadores formados na base vão jogar na equipe principal, então os atletas que não vão jogar no profissional do Corinthians serão realocados em outros mercados. O mercado emergente, por exemplo, absorve muito bem os atletas de times grandes do Brasil. Qualquer negociação lá fora, que para eles representam um valor baixo, paga a nossa conta. Sempre dou o exemplo do Arana. Chegou ao profissional, entregou resultado esportivo a curto prazo e depois foi vendido. Esse é um case de sucesso. Puxei os valores recebidos pelo Corinthians através desse mecanismo de solidariedade nos últimos dois anos e é um valor interessante. O Malcom (vendido do Bordeaux para o Barcelona por 41 milhões de euros) nos rendeu um valor interessante.

Quanto que o clube arrecadou com o mecanismo de solidariedade nesses dois últimos anos?
Não estou autorizado a falar, mas falo com convicção que é significativo para o clube. Se olharmos para os últimos três anos tivemos casos que pagam a nossa (referindo-se ao departamento de base) conta, como o Maycon e do Arana.

O mercado da base se mostra cada vez mais competitivo. Flamengo, Palmeiras e São Paulo foram alguns dos destaques nesta temporada (2019). Qual é a situação do departamento de base do Corinthians em relação aos seus concorrentes?
O Corinthians está em uma evolução. O CT da base está quase pronto, com o passar do tempo o Corinthians vai de forma definitiva para a base. Hoje, a base já utiliza os campos, mas ainda não está toda instalada lá. Tenho certeza absoluta que quando isso acontecer, o Corinthians vai mudar de patamar na categoria de base. Não foi à toa que o clube passou a ganhar tantos títulos depois de 2010 (data de inauguração do CT Joaquim Grava). A base está muito próxima de se mudar para lá. No dia que mudar vai subir de patamar.

O processo metodológico é recente ainda. Quando chegamos no clube não havia um processo. Nós o criamos, com novos cargos e novas funções. Inclusive, uma delas é o cargo de coordenador específico de cada área de atuação. Hoje, temos um coordenador para a preparação física, para a parte técnica, para os treinadores de goleiro e também na psicologia. Isso tudo é um processo. Leva um tempo para você colher frutos. Enquanto os outros clubes estavam atentos à captação de novos atletas, o Corinthians ainda não tinha um departamento para isso. O clube tinha uma pessoa que era o captador, mas não tinha planejamento, não tinha meta, não tinha processo. Depois da crise mundial de 2008/2009, os clubes foram obrigados a olharem mais para a base, pela necessidade e dificuldade financeira. Alguns clubes saíram na frente naquele momento: o Fluminense foi um deles. Criaram um departamento e mudaram o cenário deles. De 2010 para frente, a captação de atletas passou a atuar em uma escala nacional, não mais regional como era antes. O Corinthians não estava atento a isso e perdeu espaço. Em meio a tudo isso, vieram os clubes-empresas para piorar o cenário. O Corinthians chegou a perder jogador para o Desportivo Brasil. Tivemos que nos atentar e criar um novo processo. Os clubes não brincam em serviço na categoria de base.

O Corinthians profissionalizou a base….
Exatamente. Não que anteriormente o clube não tinha bons profissionais, não é isso. O que fizemos foi organizar, criar processos, metodologia, um organograma mais equilibrado e atribuir responsabilidades. As coisas foram melhorando. Hoje, na minha avaliação, estamos na metade do caminho. Em 2020, o Corinthians vai começar a colher frutos e o auge vai ser em 2021. Foi o que o Fluminense fez e o que o Flamengo está fazendo.

Hoje, como funciona essa captação de novos atletas para o clube?
Temos duas frentes. A principal é ser muito agressivo nas categorias menores (sub-11, sub-13, sub-15…). Mas por quê? A história do clube tem me mostrado que os jogadores oriundos da base que deram certo no profissional foram aqueles que chegaram muito cedo no Corinthians. Isso desde sempre. Vale lembrar do Rivellino, Ronaldo Giovanelli, Edu Gaspar, Jô, Maycon…Se você for olhar o elenco da Seleção Brasileira na Copa do Mundo 2018, a base do Corinthians teve três representantes: Marquinhos, Willian e Fagner. Esses jogadores chegaram com oito, nove anos no clube. Tenho que respeitar isso. Não é fácil um jogador chegar no clube com 16 anos, se adaptar e entender a identidade do Corinthians. Por isso, nós somos muito agressivos nas categorias menores.

Mas como o Corinthians encontra esses garotos? O clube realiza peneiras?
Não, isso é um processo de captação. O Corinthians monitora o mercado e tem seus planos de ação. Nós sabemos onde existem os principais torneios. Fazemos uma pesquisa de território para sabermos exatamente onde atacar para sermos mais assertivos. Temos pilares para avaliarmos os jogadores, não é um processo fácil. Os atletas mais novos têm o momento do estirão, que é algo normal nos meninos. Temos que respeitar esse tempo e entendermos que em algum momento isso vai virar uma dificuldade. Estudamos e treinamos muito para isso.

Em 2019, o Corinthians fez contratações pontuais para o time sub-20. O Madson (atacante), por exemplo, veio do Atlético-GO e já havia até feito gol na decisão do Campeonato Goiano profissional. Como funciona a captação especificamente para esta categoria?
Para ser contratado para o time sub-20 do Corinthians entendemos que o atleta tem que ter passado por dois cenários. O primeiro é aquele jogador que teve toda uma trajetória de base em um outro clube grande. Então, é o cara que jogou seis anos no São Paulo, cinco anos no Grêmio…Esse cara tem treino de qualidade, tem lastro, participou de grandes competições, vestiu uma camisa grande e está acostumado a lidar com pressão. O outro cenário é o jogador que ainda tem idade de base, mas já está atuando como profissional numa Série B ou C do Brasileirão, por exemplo. Esse é o caso do Janderson, que veio do Joinville. Como o futebol hoje é muito negócio, o sub-20 do Corinthians é uma categoria semi-profissional. O Brasileirão Sub-20 tem 19 rodadas e são apenas clássicos. Você não pode fazer aposta. Como o mercado está muito agressivo na captação, muito raramente você vai encontrar um jogador de 19 anos que ainda não foi visto por ninguém. Isso é quase impossível. É claro que tem alguns casos, como o Liedson que apareceu com 23 anos. Mas isso é a exceção, não podemos levar em consideração.

Qual é a porcentagem que o Corinthians tem dos direitos dos atletas da base?
O maior orgulho da base hoje é a seriedade com a qual temos tocado o departamento. Quando vou nos eventos, nos simpósios, o primeiro elogio é esse. Fico muito feliz com isso, é o nosso maior troféu. Mas, sobre sua pergunta, quero explicar o porquê de sermos muito agressivos nas categorias menores. Se você tem um jogador de 12/13 anos, ele será 100% do Corinthians. Em alguns casos, você traz esse jogador novo de algum clube e deixa uma porcentagem pequena, para manter uma boa relação com esse clube, fidelizá-lo e, no futuro, tirar mais jogadores de lá. Hoje, a legislação mudou. O jogador tem direito a participação de seus próprios direitos econômicos. Isso acontece, é uma dinâmica do mercado. De modo geral, o Corinthians precisa ter a maior fatia dos direitos econômicos dos atletas. É lógico que quando você traz um jogador para o sub-20 que já jogou como profissional, o clube que o libera vai querer manter uma participação. A projeção deles é de que nós façamos uma venda no futuro. Ninguém abre mão de 100%, isso não existe. Outra possibilidade é a troca da porcentagem, sem a necessidade de dinheiro. É aquele jogador de 15 ou 16 anos em que fazemos uma parceria com algum outro clube.

O Corinthians capta um jogador de outro clube, não paga em dinheiro pela compra, mas deixa uma porcentagem para essa equipe. É isso?
Sim, é isso. O que vai determinar a porcentagem é a idade do jogador. Se você pega um jogador de 9, 10, 11 ou 12 anos, a probabilidade de você ter 100% ou 90% desse jogador é muito grande. Se você pega um jogador de 15 ou 16 anos, ele já disputou algum campeonato por alguém. Se isso acontece, quer dizer que ele já foi federado, já foi registrado por algum outro clube e isso nos impossibilita de termos 100% dos direitos dele. Existe um movimento dos coordenadores de base para proteger os clubes onde a legislação não protege. A legislação só protege jogadores com 16 anos ou mais. Esse movimento ajuda a proteger o clube com os atletas mais novos. Nos reunimos a cada três meses e qualquer equipe que queira roubar um jogador vai ser denunciada no movimento e será boicotada. Assédio era uma prática muito comum nesse mercado. Por isso, a criação do movimento. Hoje, é assim: ou devolve o jogador ou não vai mais disputar nada. Vai ser boicotado. O Corinthians não pode ir em qualquer clube do interior e trazer alguém. Não adianta convencer o pai, tentar assediar o jogador e trazê-lo para cá. Primeiro, você precisa bater na porta do clube e negociar. Não é fácil. Quando se fala o nome do Corinthians todo mundo quer envolver dinheiro e nós não queremos. No sub-20 é diferente. São jogadores já prontos, já em transição e você precisa colocar dinheiro. O cara do sub-20 treina esporadicamente com o profissional. Às vezes, as pessoas não entendem isso. Nosso objetivo, nosso plano A é ter 100% do jogador. Daqui a pouco ele cresce, completa 16 anos, assina o primeiro contrato profissional e vai pleitear uma porcentagem para ele, pois é o direito do atleta. Nós nos preocupamos com isso. Se o Corinthians pega um jogador com 40%, 50% ou 60% dos direitos corre o risco de até ele chegar no profissional ter perdido muito. É necessário deixar uma margem. Não abrimos mão de termos a maioria do percentual dos direitos jogador, algo ali em torno de 70%.

O Corinthians emprega quantas pessoas na categoria de base?
Hoje, temos mais de 200 atletas. Algo em torno de 215 atletas para ser mais exato. A primeira categoria é com nove anos, que é quando acontece a transição do futsal para o futebol de campo. O nosso staff, o nosso organograma da base gira em torno de 110 pessoas. Você tem psicólogos, analistas, uma comissão técnica para cada categoria, é muita gente. Não pode ser diferente. A base é o principal ativo, o principal patrimônio de um clube. O Brasil passa por um momento econômico delicado. Não há patrocinadores dispostos a injetar uma fortuna no futebol, mesmo sabendo do tamanho da visibilidade do Corinthians e do tamanho da marca. Os clubes não podem mais depender dos fatores externos. A cota de televisão oscila muito, o mundo está indo para um momento de transição, a questão da tv aberta, da internet, dos serviços em streaming. O Corinthians tem o problema da bilheteria, na verdade não é um problema, é um investimento feito para ter seu estádio próprio – algo que foi muito bem feito por sinal. É um estádio lindo, mas é um estádio caro. Se você olhar, o que sobrou é a categoria de base. É o cara que vai jogar no seu clube, que vai te ajudar a ganhar títulos e no futuro ele vai querer jogar na Europa. É nessa venda que temos o case de sucesso – aquele cara que tem todos os direitos com o Corinthians, que te entregou resultado esportivo e que vai te render um bom dinheiro. A base custa caro, mas as possibilidades de retorno são enormes. As negociações pagam a nossa conta.
