Temos 19 jogos, dez semanas para tirar a Chapecoense do buraco. 19 jogos. 19 decisões. Começa domingo’, declarou.

O primeiro desafio de Marquinhos Santos será no próximo domingo, quando o Verdão do Oeste encara o Internacional, no Beira-Rio.

Pakistan target runs, de Villiers

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has admitted that his team will need to get rid of AB de Villiers early if they are to triumph against South Africa in Auckland

Firdose Moonda06-Mar-2015Distill cricket into its simplest part and it is a game about runs. Not Powerplays or fielding restrictions or the size of the field, but runs. Plain and simple. So what do you do if you can’t get the runs you need?”If we have deficiencies in the batting line-up, we can cover it up with some really good fielding and support our bowling line-up that has been doing really well for us,” Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s captain said.Pakistan are not the only team who have chased unsuccessfully in the competition so far. Neither are they the only outfit without a centurion, but something about their line-up just isn’t clicking. The opening pair lacks gravitas, the middle-order is almost entirely dependent on Misbah, and the finishers don’t often have anything to finish off.Although they have managed three totals over 300 in their last 10 ODIs, the rest makes for grim reading. In the other seven innings, they have only got over 250 once. But Pakistan are coming off the back of their highest score in eight innings and have “gained some confidence,” and by implication “determination,” which Dale Steyn has taken note of.”They’ll come out guns blazing, I don’t mean guns blazing like swinging the bat, but they’ll come out looking to pull off a win,” Steyn said.If Pakistan have any hope of overcoming South Africa, getting past the 250 mark is their first challenge. If they can achieve it, Misbah believes they have the arsenal to finish the match off. “We know that we’ve got a bowling attack where if we cross 250, no team in the world could relax chasing that 250,” he said. What about a team that has managed two successive totals of 400? The consensus among most sides is that the only way to stop South Africa is to stop their leader, AB de Villiers. Misbah shares that sentiment.”AB, no doubt, at the moment you could he’s say the best batsman in the world in limited-over cricket. Obviously we’ve got some plans, and we have good bowlers who can really just put him under pressure but the only way of stopping AB is just try to get him out. If he’s there, it’s not easy to stop him. I think the only way is to get him out.”Steyn, though, has warned that will not be easy. “I’d trip him on his way out of the hotel tomorrow morning and hope that he breaks his ankle. I don’t know how you stop him,” Steyn joked. “He’s a serious player and seeing the ball like no other player is seeing a cricket ball before, and he’s playing shots that I don’t think most people have seen before. The only way you can get him is if he gets himself out.”Or if you’re able to produce something spectacular, which is what Pakistan have been working on, although the results have yet to show. They’ve put down catches including Virat Kohl in Adelaide, who was 76 at the time and went on to make 107, Marlon Samuels twice and Lendl Simmons in Christchurch although neither were too costly, and Craig Ervine and Elton Chigumbura in Brisbane. The fluffed chances have cancelled out the incisive bowling but if they take their chances, Misbah is hopeful they can make up for even a batting collapse.”We’ve got some weaknesses in the field. When it comes to Pakistan, we don’t have that sort of athleticism which South Africa, New Zealand or Australia do, but the guys are working hard and trying their best,” Misbah said.As the captain himself has implied, against top teams, only the best will do.

'Pakistan missing big-ticket players'

Former India captain Rahul Dravid believes the lack of “big ticket players and game changers” will hamper Pakistan’s progress at the 2015 World Cup. Dravid was speaking on Contenders, ESPNcricinfo’s build-up show to the tournament in Australia and New Zealand. Dravid’s co-panelist on the show, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, said Pakistan’s batting was “a real weakness” and the failure of their younger generation of batsmen to perform consistently has been holding the team back.”Other than [Shahid] Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq and maybe Younis Khan, I don’t think any of these players would have played ODIs in Australia,” Dravid said. “This gives me the impression that they lack experience. They have got young exciting players, and players with skill as well, but it lacks those big-ticket players or game-changers which you would associate the Pakistan teams of the past.”The loss of offspinner Saeed Ajmal, who withdrew from the tournament because his remodelled bowling action needed further work before it was re-tested, will also be a huge setback to Pakistan’s chances. Before he was banned, Ajmal was Pakistan’s go-to bowler in all formats. “Every batsman in every team is breathing a sigh of relief that Ajmal is not around anymore,” Smith said. “Believe me, I wish I could go play a Pakistan team without Ajmal in it. They have lost a bowler who bowled in pressure situations, and in games where they didn’t even deserve to win. He had that ability you know, so it’s a big loss for them and how they replace that is extremely challenging for them.”Though the odds are loaded against them after a poor year in limited-overs cricket, Pakistan will be inspired by the fact that their only World Cup win came in Australia and New Zealand in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan. According to Dravid, one of Pakistan’s biggest challenges will be to find the right “balance” in the playing XI.”They don’t have that all-round player, with questions over whether Mohammed Hafeez can bowl or not. That’s a big blow for them,” Dravid said. “They’ll always have a good bowling attack, they have some exciting bowlers. Afridi has become a more dependable legspinner than a batsman. He can’t bat anywhere higher than 8. And then you’ve got a wicketkeeper, so it’s a hard one for them to mix and match. Their batting just looks really light for me at the moment.”The key for them is to try and find their best 11. When you go back to ’92, charismatic captain, who can forget Wasim Akram in the final of the tournament, and they had some x-factor,” Smith said. “That’s what they need to find now, early in the tournament find their best eleven, hopefully get some of the younger players performing well, and who knows as the tournament goes on they may grow in confidence. That’s their challenge.”

Rangana Herath hurt his finger against England•AFP

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has overcome the Achilles concern that forced him off the field early during Scotland’s innings on Thursday, team manager Michael de Zoysa has said. However, Rangana Herath’s availability for the quarter-final against South Africa on March 18 has not yet been confirmed.Herath had the stitches on his spinning finger removed on Friday, but although it had been hoped he would resume bowling in the nets on Saturday, he has not yet bowled in Sri Lanka’s training sessions. “We’re just giving him an extra day to heal,” de Zoysa said. “He’ll start bowling on Sunday I think.”Despite the minor setback, Herath is likely to be available for the quarter-final in Sydney. Following the Scotland match, vice-captain Lahiru Thirimanne had said he was “80% sure” Herath would have sufficiently recovered for the next game. Herath had received the cut on his finger during the penultimate over of Sri Lanka’s match against England on March 1. He missed the two subsequent games.Mathews’ Achilles complaints simply required rest, de Zoysa said. Mathews did not attend the optional training session on Saturday either, but will begin netting again on Sunday. Both men are vital to the balance of Sri Lanka’s XI. Mathews provides steady medium pace to go with his batting and captaincy, while Herath has largely been adept at controlling the opposition run rate through the middle overs.

Rubel accuser 'drops' charges, law may differ

Rubel Hossain’s match-winning performance against England may fetch him an unexpected pay-off – a Bangladeshi actress says she will drop the charges under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against him that saw him spend three nights in jail in January. But Bangladeshi law does not allow such charges to be dropped unilaterally, and the entire legal process is usually drawn-out and complicated. The actress, Naznin Akhtar Happy, told a private TV channel in Bangladesh, in the aftermath of the England match on Monday, that she was moved enough to drop the charges.”I’ve forgiven him. I am not going to continue the case against him,” Happy told Channel 24 television on Tuesday. “I am not going to give any testimony or evidence against him. And if I don’t carry on with the case, then there is no case.”Her statement came a day after her lawyer Cumar Debul Dey said he wouldn’t represent Happy. A few hours after Bangladesh’s win over England, he wrote on his Facebook page: “I am withdrawing myself as Happy’s lawyer in light of Bangladesh and Rubel’s success. In future, if any other lawyer is appointed to deal with this case, I will not have any problems.”On January 8 Rubel was sent to jail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed the order after Rubel surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail. Rubel had, on December 15, been granted four weeks of anticipatory bail in the case. This came two days after the complainant, an actress, had filed the case against Rubel with Mirpur police station on charges of making false promises of marriage.Three days later Rubel was granted bail pending the police submission of the charge sheet to the court. He was also allowed to travel abroad, excusing him from appearing before the court for further proceedings.

Gómez chegará nesta quinta a 50 jogos no Palmeiras: 'Sou privilegiado'

Tuskers, Eagles to clash in final

A round-up of the Pro50 Championship matches played on March 17, 2015

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Mar-2015Mid West Rhinos survived a middle-order stumble to beat Mountaineers by three wickets, denying the latter a spot in the final of the Pro50 Championship. Mountaineers, who were two points adrift of Mashonaland Eagles, needed a win over Rhinos and a Matabeleland Tuskers’ victory over Eagles to climb into second and a place in the final, but a loss ended their run. Tuskers and Eagles will now clash in the Pro50 final despite the latter’s 74-run loss on Tuesday.Rhinos had Mountaineers under pressure right from the start of the game as their pacers Michael Chinouya and Tendai Chisoro reduced Mountaineers to 83 for 7. From 102 for 8, Mountaineers managed to post 211 only through the 109-run partnership between Innocent Kaia and No. 10 batsman Tapiwa Mufudza. Kaia took on the scoring responsibilities, and brought up his maiden List A hundred, finishing with 101 off 144 deliveries with 12 fours and a six.The foundation for Rhinos’ 212-run chase was set up by the top order, with knocks from Bradley Wadlan (50) and Prince Masvaure leading the way. Three quick strikes by legspinner Natsai M’shangwe saw them stumble from 147 for 2 to 189 for 6 but Masvaure’s unbeaten 68 held the innings together and they achieved the target in the 36th over.Brian Chari’s 125-ball 115 and three wickets each from Brian Vitori and John Nyumbu were the stand-out performances in Tuskers’ 74-run win against Eagles.Chari’s 115, his maiden List A hundred, helped Tuskers post an imposing 279 for 5. Chari’s 137-run second-wicket stand with Nkosana Mpofu (50) set the base for Tuskers’ innings and they were given a boost by Luke Jongwe’s unbeaten 20-ball 37. In reply, Eagles kept losing wickets at regular intervals and had lost half their side by the 32nd over for 132 runs. Nyumbu and Vitori then ran through the rest of the line-up as Eagles’ innings folded for 205 in 43 overs.

Morgan backs Bell's cautious approach

Eoin Morgan defended Ian Bell’s understated role as he shared a record-breaking opening stand for England in World Cups, describing his stand of 172 in 30.1 overs with Moeen Ali as “a perfect platform”. As Moeen played freely for a second ODI hundred, Bell was more circumspect, needing 85 balls for his 54, but nevertheless England were able to point at a decisive victory as they saw off Scotland by 119 runs in Christchurch.”There were a lot of positives to take from today: Ian’s innings is one of them,” Morgan said. “I thought he and Moeen faced reasonably tough circumstances. The ball held up a bit and nipped around early, and I thought they held their composure really well.”It was Moeen, nevertheless, who introduced the first signs of optimism to England’s World Cup campaign with a second ODI century to follow the one he made in Sri Lanka before Christmas. His hundred came only four balls after Bell had reached 50.”Moeen struck the ball really well, as he has been, and for him to set a platform like that was absolutely ideal,” Morgan said. “I rate him really highly. He’s an allrounder which we haven’t had for a very long time, somebody who opens the batting and plays in the fashion that he does, and the purchase he gets on the ball. I think we’re very privileged to have him.”England had designs on a total approaching 350 when Bell was the first batsman to fall, but they were encouraged into a more restrained approach as wickets tumbled. Morgan put that down to a surface, also used during West Indies’ defeat of Pakistan, lacking in pace.

Moeen seeks to banish ‘negativity’

Moeen Ali hoped that his matchwinning hundred against Scotland would help England banish the negativity that he feels is surrounding their World Cup challenge.
@It feels like everybody is against us and everything is negative,” he said. “It’s very important we take all of that away. Teams do lose but we have to stay together.”

“You always think you should get more than you should, but having been there for the last five overs, the wicket slowed up the older the ball got, and with the wind as well, it made it difficult to find the boundary,” Morgan said. “That gave me more confidence that 300 was an above par score.”England’s World Cup challenge has been rubbished after heavy defeats against Australia and New Zealand – the two toughest sides in the group, but Morgan claimed that pessimism had not taken hold in the dressing room.”I don’t think there’s ever a state of panic. Obviously we had two hard games, and the fact we didn’t perform was the most disappointing, but a win just puts things a little more at ease, and it gives guys a little bit of confidence. Even the guys who didn’t perform today, talking to other guys who have had a little bit of success today will be good for them.”Morgan justified England’s decision to retain an unchanged side against Scotland, in defiance of two thumping defeats, on the grounds that they had played too poorly to enable any conclusions about the make-up of the side.”We came to the conclusion that we haven’t performed in the first two games, so you couldn’t really argue the balance of the side was wrong because we hadn’t seen guys perform. I was very confident going into the first two games that we had the strongest side to win those games, so reinforcing our confidence going with the same team today was very important.”In your head, I think you can be guilty of building up a tournament, of having to play your best throughout the tournament and hammer every side in order to win it, but the games that I’ve watched haven’t shown that at all. Strong sides have been beaten. It’s about getting points on the board; how you do it doesn’t really matter.”

Moeen shrugs off England negativity

Moeen Ali believes it was his ability to shut out the background noise and negativity that led to his return to form in Christchurch

Moeen Ali believes it was his ability to shut out the background noise and negativity that led to his return to form in Christchurch.Moeen stroked 128 as England secured their first win of the tournament at the third attempt. And while the victory came against a relatively unfancied Scotland side, after two absolute thrashings in their opening games England were hardly in a position to take any result for granted. They were also struggling for confidence. Some self-doubt was probably inevitable after the magnitude of those first defeats, but it was only increased after criticism from the media and even friends back at home. The match against Scotland – a no-win encounter in some ways – loomed. For Moeen, at least, the secret was to relax and not over-think his game. Which sounds simple, but when you receive constant reminders of your side’s struggles, it is far from easy.”With the way we have been playing, people have been talking negatively,” Moeen said. “It was difficult [to be positive] with the lack of performances against Australia and New Zealand.”Family and friends text you saying ‘do this, do that’ and you end up thinking ‘it’s not that easy’. You do get a sense of negativity.”Sometimes it’s friends, sometimes it’s random people telling me to take my time or do this or that. You can’t listen to everyone. I try to reply but there’s one or two when I think, ‘You’re taking the Mick now!'”It is telling that Moeen choose to work with Paul Farbrace in between games. While some coaches may be verbose or critical, Farbrace – who led Sri Lanka to World T20 success only a year ago – tends to be simple and positive. And, when you only have a few days between games, it is that uncomplicated assistance that most players prefer. So Moeen was reassured over his level of talent and informed that if he trusted that natural ability, rather than feeling the need to premeditate strokes, he would flourish.”Paul Farbrace took away everything negative and just told me to be true to myself,” Moeen said. “He told me to play the way I wanted to play. He said it didn’t matter how many I scored as long as my mindset was right, I played with freedom and I kept it really simple.”As a batter you aren’t always 100% and then you perhaps search for it a little bit more. You try to take bowlers down. But I think if I just bat the way I bat, with my reactions I will still score quickly enough. We always talk about reacting to the ball and playing on instincts a lot. That century against Scotland was the first time [in the World Cup] I didn’t premeditate, I just reacted to balls and enjoyed it.”When you premeditate you play shots that are probably not there. Yesterday I 100% backed my reactions and most of the time, when you are playing well, that’s what you do. It’s just when you haven’t scored for a couple of games you go away from that.”You have to stay positive, I know it is a cliché but keep it as simple as you can and go back to basics and enjoying it like it’s a game in the park, not take it too seriously.”It is easier to relax, of course, when the opposition are Scotland rather than New Zealand or Australia, so the real test will come on Sunday when England return to Wellington to play Sri Lanka. But as far as Moeen is concerned, the principles will remain the same: England have to continue to “express themselves” and ignore the media, the crowd and the messages from home that might cause any doubt to creep in.”Everyone is trying to get the players to play the best cricket they can,” he said. “Everybody wants England to do well and it can be frustrating for everybody as well as us.”Sometimes, because of all that, we probably go into our shells a bit rather than going out and expressing ourselves. We should take away all that attention, enjoy it again and go out and have a bit of fun and still be clinical.”I speak to the right people as much as I can. People who I feel are positive and are not talking about the pressures. I try to speak to my parents, my brother. Paul Farbrace is really good for that.”I just take my mind away from cricket a little. Sometimes, you think about cricket and do so much that it can easily take over everything. I go back to reading, doing something else, so when the cricket time comes I’m ready.”While Moeen was able to play the fearless cricket that England often talk about but seldom show, his team-mates struggled to follow suit. Gary Ballance, who has scored 10 in each of the first three games, has looked especially out of sorts and could be replaced for the Sri Lanka game by Alex Hales, the only England player to make a T20 century.
