Leeds: Fabrizio Romano shares Mohamed Camara update

Leeds United won’t bid for RB Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara as things stands, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Camara links

The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for Camara in recent weeks, with an outlet in Austria going as far as saying a big-money transfer was ‘imminent’.

Leeds reportedly made a breakthrough in talks over the weekend in a deal that would have cost around £30m with bonuses.

However, it seems as if RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams will be the man to arrive at Elland Road, according to Romano, after a total £20m fee was ‘100% agreed’.

The Latest: Romano’s update

Romano took to Twitter on Monday evening to provide updates on both Adams and Camara.

He claimed that a move for Adams was ‘done and sealed’, adding that ‘if nothing changes in the coming weeks, Leeds won’t bid for midfielder Camara’.

The Verdict: Both needed?

Kalvin Phillips is now officially a Manchester City player, so you’d expect Adams will come in and fill the void left by the boyhood Leeds fan.

However, Jesse Marsch will have just Adams and fellow summer signing Marc Roca as senior defensive midfielders, so you could make an argument that Camara is also needed at Elland Road.

Manchester Evening News podcaster Conor McGilligan believes Camara is already ‘on KP’s level’, so having options of Adams, Roca and Camara may well prove to be smart business, but it looks as if a move isn’t ‘imminent’ as reported over the weekend.

Leeds: Dean Jones makes Adama Traore transfer claim

Leeds United will ‘really push’ to sign Wolves forward Adama Traore this summer, according to Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Traore linked with Leeds

Hailed as a ‘danger man’ by Noel Whelan, the Spain international has once again been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.

Leeds appear to be in the market for a new pacey forward after already making three signings, with Wolves willing to sell the 26-year-old for around £18m.

Reports in recent days have claimed that the Whites have made an approach for Traore, who has 18 senior career goals, and Jones has shared what he knows regarding the situation.

The Latest: Jones’ comments on Traore

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said that Leeds are looking to make a ‘breakthrough’ in their pursuit of Traore after going back in for the Spaniard.

Jones outlined:

“One of the things I have heard is that Leeds are back in for Adama Traore and they’re going to really push to see if they can get a breakthrough on this one.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-45/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: A gamble?

Jesse Marsch already has a quick forward at Elland Road in Dan James, who has question marks when it comes to his end product, so looking to sign Traore could be a gamble by Leeds officials.

Despite his searing pace, the Spain international has also struggled in front of goal throughout his career, netting just eight times in 160 Premier League appearances for Wolves, Aston Villa and Middlesborough.

However, Victor Orta is a big admirer of the 26-year-old and signed him for Middlesbrough in 2016. Marcelo Bielsa was a huge fan of James and eventually got a deal over the line last summer, so it wouldn’t come as a shock if Orta gets his way and brings Traore to Yorkshire.

West Ham: Moyes ‘also’ set for ‘really, really exciting’ player bid

West Ham United and manager David Moyes are ‘also’ set to bid for a ‘really, really exciting’ player, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Irons keep busy…

After signing both Nayef Aguerd from Rennes and sealing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal from Paris-Saint Germain, it is reliably believed that the Irons will keep pushing in the transfer market.

As per Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, West Ham are expected to be ‘very busy’ and Moyes wants at least six new signings in total before commencing the 2022/2023 Premier League season.

The east Londoners must strengthen to keep pace with England’s best sides and Moyes, it is claimed, now wants to bolster his attacking options first and foremost.

The Latest: West Ham ‘also’ set for ‘exciting’ player bid…

Club owners GSB and head of recruitment Rob Newman, according to reports, are set to make a move for Jesse Lingard.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates-2/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, as per journalist Ryan Taylor of The Daily Express, a West Ham ‘bid’ for Chelsea striker Armando Broja, who Gary Neville called a ‘really, really exciting’ player, is ‘also on agenda’ for Moyes.

The Verdict: Push for deal?

The 20-year-old enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at Southampton over-all last season with Saints legend Francis Benali branding him ‘sensational’.

Standing at a colossal 6 foot 3, Broja, possesses a physicality tailor-made for top flight football and could prove to be a different outlet for West Ham in the attacking areas.

The Hammers have arguably been without a traditional ‘target man’ since club-record signing Sebastien Haller left Rush Green and we believe Albania’s international starlet could be an ideal, long overdue replacement.

Crystal Palace finalise Sam Johnstone deal

Crystal Palace are preparing to announce West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as their third signing of the window.

What’s the word?

That’s according to Ryan Taylor, who released a tweet regarding the finalisation of their top target, Cheik Doucoure.

However, he signed off the tweet by claiming that “Sam Johnstone officially completes move to Selhurst Park on Friday.”

Palace fans can finally relax as they look to squeeze through another couple of impressive deals early on in the window after the acquisition of Malcolm Ebiowei.

Vieira will love it

Sam Johnstone is widely regarded as a very solid goalkeeper, and marks another intelligent piece of business from Patrick Vieira.

Jack Butland had previously held the backup goalkeeper spot, but the opportunity to sign the former Premier League shot-stopper who was a bright spark in an otherwise dull West Brom side will have seen him drop down the pecking order.

Last season, in what was a frustrating year for the Baggies, the England international still managed a wonderful 15 clean sheets, conceding just 33 goals in 36 games. He ranked third in the race for the Championship’s golden glove as his West Brom side finished tenth.

This fine shot-stopping led to his new boss Steve Bruce dubbing him a “wonderful goalkeeper”.

He had the following to say about his development: “I had the pleasure of working with Sam a few years ago and watched his career take off. It’s no surprise. I always knew the talent he has. He’s a very, very good goalkeeper.”

In his last season in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season, he also averaged a fine average SofaScore rating of 7.03 as his side were relegated. Throughout that season, despite keeping just six clean sheets, he did average 4.5 saves per game and even notched up an assist.

He has already proven his class at the top level, and will certainly offer a competitive battle for the number one jersey with Vicente Guaita.

Vieira will be delighted to get yet another fresh face through the door, and further bolster what is turning into a really solid Premier League squad.

AND, in other news: Contact made: CPFC in the race to seal £9m “great signing”, Vieira would love him.

Nottingham Forest want Mislav Orsic

Nottingham Forest are showing an interest in Croatian winger Mislav Orsic.

What’s the word?

That’s according to Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti, who claim that a bid is yet to be tabled but Forest are interested.

Burnley had offered €8m back in January for the winger but the deal fell through, and now Dinamo are demanding the same fee (£7m) for his services.

The Tricky Trees appear to be the only club interested at this moment, however, it is just interest for now.

He could light up the Premier League

Probably most well-known for his sensational hat trick to knock out Tottenham from the Europa League back at the end of the 2020/21 season, Orsic has constantly been touted with a move away from Croatia that has never materialised.

His links have been so prominent due to his fine goalscoring feats, as just last season he bagged 14 times and assisted a further three in the league. The winger has exactly 100 goal contributions in 207 appearances in the SuperSport HNL.

Already possessing the lightning-quick Brennan Johnson, adding another threat on the other wing would add to Forest’s growing attacking threat.

Adding depth and quality could be the difference between them avoiding the drop, against all the odds.

He therefore unsurprisingly has an average SofaScore rating of 7.22, which marks him as a consistently high performer for his team.

Croatian journalist Izak Ante Sucic spoke highly of the attacker when Burnley were initially linked, labelling him “magic”.

He continued: “People are not sure whether he can cope with the Premier League because of his physique and fitness, but I think he will be great there.

“He has to be offensive and be given space and freedom and he is not so good in defence, that is his problem.”

He would offer another dynamic to Cooper’s side, and more importantly another goal threat to the newly-promoted side. He has shown that he can perform against one of the Premier League’s top sides and a risk-free punt on this marksman could pay off for Forest.

AND, in other news: Cooper can brutally axe £7.1k-pw dud as NFFC plot bid for “rampaging” £2.25m-rated ace.

West Ham: Onana alternatives considered

West Ham United may be about to hatch a plan B in terms of midfield recruitment after seeing a bid for Lille’s Amadou Onana rejected.

The lowdown

As per the Daily Mail, the Hammers offered the Ligue 1 side £20m for the defensive midfielder, but they were rebuffed. Lille, who finished 10th in the French top flight, are said to be adamant that the 20-year-old is not for sale this summer.

Les Dogues have already lost Sven Botman to Newcastle United in a £33.3m deal, while right-back Zeki Celik has been lured to Roma (via Transfermarkt).

Another midfielder in Renato Sanches could also be set to leave the club after agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain.

The latest

The Daily Mail’s Simon Jones reported that West Ham are ‘considering other midfield options’ after Lille dismissed the Irons’ offer for Onana.

It seems that, rather than testing the French club’s resolve with an improved fee, the Premier League outfit might instead turn their attention to a different target in that position.

The verdict

Who else might interest West Ham in terms of defensive midfield acquisitions?

It’s certainly an area that they need to address, with Alex Kral leaving the club following his season-long loan spell and Mark Noble hanging up his boots. Cover and competition for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek is required.

They could look at a player who is stylistically similar and has Premier League experience in Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt. The German may not be quite as young as Onana, but at the age of 24, he is still only at the beginning of what should be his peak footballing years.

Valued at £12.6million by Transfermarkt, he might prove to be a more achievable acquisition.

Gallagher signing could see Sanson axed

Aston Villa have been heavily linked with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer and his signing could finally allow Steven Gerrard to axe Villa flop Morgan Sanson.

Following a superb season on loan with Crystal Palace, where his performances earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, Gallagher has not been short of suitors so far this summer.

It is still unclear whether or not he will get guaranteed football at Stamford Bridge and Villa could offer him regular first-team minutes ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The 22-year-old contributed eight goals and three assists in 34 appearances for Patrick Vieira’s side last season, averaging a superb 7.08 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

The French manager was certainly a big fan of the 22-year-old, as he praised him last season, saying:

“He has got so much strength, so much power, so much mobility, but it’s about finding the right time to use his energy.

“He is unbelievable, and he is like that in life as well. He gives everything in every relationship with his teammates and he plays in the same way as he is in his life.”

Villa definitely seem to be in the market for a central midfielder this summer and should the England international arrive – with Chelsea reportedly willing to sell the youngster for a figure in the region of £50m – you feel it would put the final nail in Sanson’s Villa career.

Since signing from Marseille in a £16m deal in 2021, the Frenchman has made just 20 appearances for the Villans, in which he has failed to contribute a single goal or assist.

The signing of Gallagher would surely give Gerrard enough cover in midfield and Sanson could finally be axed, with his old side Marseille said to be interested in re-signing him in a £10m deal.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, his move to England has simply not worked out, emphasised by his shocking 6.34 average rating in the Premier League last season.

[freshpress-quiz id=“659225”]

Therefore, Villa fans will be hoping that a deal for Gallagher can be done, as it would surely bring an end to Sanson’s nightmare spell at the club.

Marsch could land his own Richarlison with Leeds bid for "dangerous" £58m destroyer - opinion

Leeds United ended their turbulent 2021/22 Premier League season by managing to avoid the drop and keep their place in the top flight.

With 38 games played, the Whites won nine, drew 11 and lost 18, leaving them in 17th place with 38 points on the board, three points above Burnley who were unable to escape the relegation zone.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Another aspect of Leeds’ latest campaign was the number of goals they managed to score compared to their prior season where they finished in ninth place.

Having found the net 62 times in the 2020/21 season, the Yorkshire club only scored 42 goals last time out.

Now with the summer transfer window open, the Whites have already been busy in terms of adding new players to their ranks in the shape of Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca.

One other figure that the club have been linked with that could help Jesse Marsch’s side get back to becoming a regular goalscoring side again is Armando Broja.

As a product of Chelsea’s youth system, the striker has scored 41 goals in 126 club appearances across senior and youth levels.

During his recent loan spell with Southampton, the 20-year-old found the net nine times in 38 appearances.

In his 32 Premier League appearances for the Saints, Broja racked up 48 shots at goal, highlighting how dangerous he can be at the top of the pitch.

According to FBref, one other recognisable name that is included on a list of similar players to the Chelsea centre-forward is Richarlison.

Taking into account how the Brazilian has scored 48 goals and delivered 18 assists in 173 Premier League appearances, the possibility of landing his own version of the Everton star in the shape of Broja should be an exciting one for Marsch and Leeds.

Labelled as a “dangerous” player by Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Chelsea youngster certainly has what it takes to add a bit of extra firepower to Leeds’ ranks.

With all of this in mind, despite having a rather hefty reported price tag of £58m, securing a move for the striker this summer could be just what the Leeds boss needs to make sure his side aren’t involved in another excruciating relegation battle next time out.

West Ham eye Ben Brereton-Diaz

David Moyes means business in the summer transfer window with West Ham signing Nayef Aguerd and Flynn Downes, whilst securing a permanent move for PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola following his loan spell last season.

The Scot will be aiming to carry the momentum from last season, where West Ham reached a historic Europa League semi-final and finished a lofty seventh place in the Premier League.

With additions to the defence and midfield so far, Moyes will be looking at bolstering his attacking options, and with the club linked with moves for strikers Armando Broja and Emmanuel Dennis amongst others, he should be making a move for a 23-year-old who has had an excellent 18 months for both club and country.

The Sun reported in May that West Ham were interested in Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz, with the Championship club slapping a £20m price tag on the player.

His former manager Tony Mowbray dubbed the striker “extraordinary” with FourFourTwo describing him as a ‘superstar’ and it could be an excellent move for West Ham.

The 23-year-old scored a remarkable 22 goals from 37 Championship appearances last season and this has naturally attracted interest from the likes of West Ham and fellow Premier League side Leeds United.

He has also added four goals from 14 international appearances for Chile – the country of his mother’s birth – and the striker even scored at the Copa America in 2021.

With West Ham only having one senior forward at the club in Michael Antonio, who scored 13 goals last season, signing Brereton-Diaz would prove to be a major upgrade.

In terms of league goals, Brereton-Diaz scored more (22 to 10), had more shots per game (2.8 to 2.3) and scored more frequently (a goal every 139 minutes to 238 minutes).

These stats show that the Chilean international could be an upgrade on Antonio for next season as Moyes aims to improve his attacking options.

Liverpool can sign new Mane with Gnabry

Liverpool have made three signings so far in the transfer window with Calvin Ramsey, Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho all joining the Anfield outfit, but they have in an equal measure lost a number of players this summer.

Divock Origi, Taki Minamino and Sadio Mane have all left the club to take on new challenges elsewhere, with Mane’s unexpected exit the most likely to cause disruption in the team following his fantastic number of goal contributions.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

The Senegalese winger made the decision to leave the Reds just 12 months before his contract was due to expire with Mane joining Bayern Munich on a permanent move. Now, Liverpool could ask a favour of the Bundesliga champions in return.

The Merseyside club has been linked with a move for Serge Gnabry this summer, and despite playing predominantly as a right winger he can offer the goal contributions and attacking capabilities needed to replace Mane.

Gnabry has scored 64 times and delivered 40 assists in 171 appearances, impressively with a goal contribution every 105 minutes for Bayern, but it’s not just his goals and assists that have been attracting the attention of the powers at Anfield over the last season.

The £34m dynamo created a whopping 17 big chances, making 1.4 key passes, 1.4 tackles and taking two shots on average per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels combined (51%) and being successful in the majority of his dribbles (61%) over 34 Bundesliga appearances.

This season Gnabry ranked ninth for G/A contributions, shot-creating actions, and ranked seventh in the entire top five European leagues for key passes completed.

The Germany international has been the recipient of high praise, with Rio Ferdinand branding Gnabry “world class” on BT Sport (via Daily Mail);

“His stats are phenomenal. He’s sitting in the top level, world class.

“He’s come to Germany and set the place on fire, he was absolutely stunning tonight. His decision making has been extraordinary.”

With all considered, the former Arsenal man would be a great addition and a valuable asset to the team, especially if Mohamed Salah leaves next summer as he plays mostly on the right wing so it could be a win win situation for FSG ahead of next term.
