Three Reasons £60k-p/w Man May Reject Chelsea Transfer

Journalist Charles Watts has claimed that Declan Rice may no longer be keen on a transfer to Chelsea for three key reasons amid talk of a summer move.

What’s the latest on Declan Rice to Chelsea?

It's no secret that the Englishman is likely going to leave this summer, and a number of top Premier League clubs look to be in the race to land his signature.

Among those are Chelsea – the club Rice played for as a youngster before leaving when he was 14 years of age. He is known to be good friends with Mason Mount, but his England teammate may be leaving this summer amid contract issues and links to Liverpool.

If the West Ham United star does leave, he will surely do so for a Champions League club, with the 23-year-old previously stating that's the level he wants to be playing at

While talking about all this on his YouTube channel, Arsenal correspondent Watts explained why a move to Chelsea may longer be quite so "appealing" to Rice as it once was.

He said: "It's looking very unlikely – unless they go on and win it – they're going to be able to offer Champions League football, which is one of the big reasons that Declan Rice wants to leave West Ham now.

"We're not sure if Mason Mount's going to stay at Chelsea. He's obviously Declan Rice's really, really good mate. If he leaves, maybe that will stop [making] Chelsea quite so attractive to him.

"Whether he'd be willing to accept an eight-year contract as well – while that's appealing to some, it's certainly not appealing to others.

"So there's lots of reasons why potentially Chelsea isn't looking anywhere near as likely when it comes to Declan Rice as it did just a year ago."

Why would Declan Rice not want a Chelsea transfer?

Watts certainly is right on one front. Chelsea currently sit 10th in the Premier League with just 11 games to play. If they want to finish in the top four, they'll need to close the 11-point gap between them and the last Champions League spot with some incredible displays.

According to reports, Rice currently earns around £60,000 per week, but that will surely increase dramatically if he is to leave the Hammers in what could be a deal worth more than £100m.

Todd Boehly may well have that sort of money, and if he was to land the Englishman, he'd quite likely want to tie him to a long-term contract judging by the Blues' recent activity in that regard. However, that's been an issue with Mount – who supposedly doesn't want to commit to the club amid talk of a deal up for as much as eight years being tabled, and so Rice may feel equally hesitant.

Consequently, with no Champions League football, Mount, or a reasonable contract offer waiting for him at Chelsea, perhaps the 23-year-old will end up elsewhere.

Spurs target ‘strong candidate’ Enrique

Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Fabio Paratici views former Barcelona boss as a ‘strong candidate’ to succeed Antonio Conte.

The Lowdown: Conte succession plan…

The 53-year-old has been repeatedly linked with an exit from Spurs in the last few weeks with Paratici already drawing a list of candidates to replace him long term.

While some noises suggest Ryan Mason will take interim charge for the remainder of this Premier League season if Conte is sacked, there could be many names to watch out for afterwards.

Sky claim some Spurs players have contacted former boss Mauricio Pochettino to return and other candidates in the frame include Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel, Marco Silva, Thomas Frank and Enrique.

Conte’s seemingly inevitable exit from the north London club was accelerated by an astonishing rant after Spurs’ 3-3 draw with Southampton last weekend.

The Italian launched a scathing attack on the squad, chairman Daniel Levy and the club’s very culture – stating:

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart (in).

“Why? Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don’t play for something important yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress.

“It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this. Twenty years there is the owner and they never won something but why?”

The Latest: Luis Enrique a ‘strong candidate’ for Spurs hot seat…

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, speaking to CaughtOffside, ex-Spain boss Enrique is viewed as a strong candidate by Paratici.

The transfer chief will apparently lead Tottenham’s chase for a new manager, even if Levy’s opinion carries huge weight, with Jacobs adding Enrique could be a ‘popular’ choice for Spurs supporters.

The reporter said:

“Pochettino is extremely open to a Spurs return and retains a strong professional and personal relationship with Levy. But Levy isn’t the only decision maker, even though his opinion carries huge weight. Fabio Paratici will lead on any appointment and he views Enrique as a strong candidate. Both options would be popular choices amongst the fanbase.”

The Verdict: Big pedigree…

Enrique shares a lot of similarities with Pochettino in the sense they both encourage open, attacking football and currently stand out as attainable free agents.

The 52-year-old has also worked with some of football’s most mega superstars, like Lionel Messi, potentially meaning he could handle a few egos in the Spurs dressing room.

Enrique has even been called ‘underrated’ by members of the media with the European coach coming as a really good potential choice.

However, we believe Pochettino still stands out given his Premier League experience.

Man City Eyeing Summer Move For Benjamin Pavard

Manchester City are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Benjamin Pavard during the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Is Pavard off in the summer?

This summer is hopefully going to be another fruitful one for City in the transfer market as they look to make their squad even more formidable by adding fresh legs. Full-back could be an area of the pitch to strengthen with Kyle Walker now in his thirties and Joao Cancelo's future up in the air after joining Bayern Munich on loan.

One player who could potentially be on the move at the end of the season is Pavard, who is currently a key figure for Bayern. The France World Cup winner has started 20 Bundesliga matches this season, as well as appearing seven times in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2024, so this year could be the last opportunity to receive a decent amount of money for his signature, meaning he could move on to pastures new this summer. It looks as though there could be a scrap to sign Pavard in the upcoming window, following a fresh update.

Could Frenchman head to Man City?

According to 90min, City are in the hunt to sign Pavard from Bayern, although they are far from alone in expressing their interest. Manchester United and Real Madrid are the other top clubs who are believed in the conversation. All three clubs are keen on "bolstering" their right-back options and they see the France international as a strong option to bring in.

He may not be the most attack-minded full-back in the game – he has only registered one assist in the league this season – but he is a defensively astute player with a wealth of experience and a winning mentality, as highlighted by his World Cup triumph back in 2018.

With Uli Hoeness lauding him as "wonderful" in the past, Pavard could be seen as a strong option to rival Walker for minutes moving forward, easing the Englishman's workload as he gets older in the process and proving to be an intelligent signing who learns the City system quickly.

Having great squad depth can be key for a team like City who are battling on maximum fronts each year, and the Bayern defender could be someone who comes in and simply does a solid job – possibly even enjoying his best years of his career at the Etihad.

Rangers Can Repeat Bassey Masterclass With Teen Sensation

Michael Beale isn’t just content with signing players to improve the Glasgow Rangers first-team squad as Ross Wilson could be set to repeat the Ibrox side's Calvin Bassey masterstroke with a move for defender Jack McEvilly.

According to Football Insider, the Gers are in competition with their Old Firm rivals for Burnley youngster McEvilly.

The Light Blues may be able to beat off Premier League interest due to the fact they can offer a professional contract to players aged just 16 and would only have to pay £300k in compensation.

Bassey joined the club similarly on a pre-contract from south of the border back in 2020 and went on to win both Premiership and Scottish Cup winners medals, making 65 appearances in all competitions before securing a move to Ajax for £23m which represents the biggest fee received for a player in their history.

Signing McEvilly could certainly be a repeat of that investment to bring Bassey to the club and with the Nigerian eventually going on to secure the club a major profit, the Burnley talent could potentially follow in the same manner.

Who is Jack McEvilly?

He is just 16 years old and mainly operates as a left-sided centre-back – a position that Bassey did well in – and he has also featured for the Burnley U21s despite his tender age, showing plenty of signs of promise and displaying a maturity which could stand him in good stead ahead of a bright career.

He has made nine appearances for the U18s this season and although a first-team place is some way off, he certainly has the potential to make his way through the ranks.

Seeing players such as Leon King, Adam Devine and Alex Lowry all make their debuts for the first team over the previous few years shows McEvilly that if the talent is there plus the ability to constantly work hard, then the rewards are endless.

Calvin Bassey for Rangers

With the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United and Everton all interested, the opportunity to join Rangers must be looked at as the option which offers a guaranteed pathway to first-team football.

Bassey is a shining example of a raw talent coming from England to work under a manager who is willing to give him a chance and when offered a sniff of senior team action, maximising it to good effect.

For just £300k, it could well be another shrewd investment by Wilson and one that he hopes can secure the club a major profit in the coming years.

Man United Approach "World Class" Player

Manchester United have made an approach to the representatives of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Fabrizio Romano reports.

What’s the latest news on Man United and Mac Allister?

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new midfielder and forward this summer, looking to build on a successful first season under Erik ten Hag.

Mac Allister has emerged as a real target in recent weeks, with journalist Steve Bates recently claiming that Ten Hag has held transfer talks with director of football John Murtough, technical director Darren Fletcher and chief executive Richard Arnold.

The Argentinian is thought to be on the manager’s radar, and it looks as if the Red Devils have made a first move for the World Cup winner.

Romano took to Twitter in the last 48 hours to share what he’s heard on Mac Allister. He said that the Red Devils, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool have all approached Mac Allister’s camp, with the player expected to depart the south coast over the coming months.

“Alexis Mac Allister, expected to leave early this summer — understand there are three clubs in the race: Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

“These clubs have approached player’s camp to discuss the project. BHAFC will decide price tag soon.”

Alexis Mac Allister celebrates after scoring for Brighton & Hove albion in the Premier League.

What would Mac Allister bring to Old Trafford?

We think Mac Allister could offer plenty to Ten Hag, with the 24-year-old turning out in defensive, central and attacking midfield roles during the current campaign.

He has contributed to an impressive 12 goals in 29 games, showing that he has ability in the final third as well as contributing defensively. As per WhoScored, Mac Allister ranks highly for tackles and shots per 90 in the Seagulls' squad and has recently been hailed as 'world class' by members of the media.

Having won the World Cup in the winter and had his best season in front of goal for Brighton this term, he appears to be at the peak of his powers so could come in and immediately make an impact alongside the likes of star midfielders Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Ten Hag will be able to get a closer look at his summer target later this month in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and who knows, he could be turning out under the Dutchman next season, should United pip two of their rivals to his signature over the coming months.

Leeds United Must Ditch £8.2k-p/w Flop

Leeds United looked to have uncovered another potential gem when Ian Poveda joined from Manchester City back in 2020 but his lack of appearances at Elland Road since suggests that he has rinsed the club of a salary.

How has Ian Poveda performed at Leeds?

The winger, who had previously spent time at Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona, joined the Yorkshire outfit on a four-and-a-half-year deal in January 2020, having failed to make the grade in Pep Guardiola's side.

He would go on to make just four appearances in Marcelo Bielsa's Championship title-winning side that season, which perhaps did not bode well for his chances of making it as a Premier League regular in the future.

However, he did muster 16 appearances in all competitions the following campaign but failed to contribute a single goal or assist, averaging a woeful 6.23 rating from WhoScored across his 14 substitute appearances in the Premier League.

In fact, Poveda has managed just one league start in his three-and-a-half-year spell at Elland Road, as he has spent the last two seasons out on loan in the Championship, where his performances have done little to suggest that he could still make it at Leeds.

Last year saw the young winger manage one goal and two assists in just ten second-tier outings for Blackburn Rovers, while he has two goals and two assists in all competitions this season for struggling Blackpool.

While he has caught the eye of manager Mick McCarthy, Poveda is 23 now and looks unlikely to displace the likes of Jack Harrison or Luis Sinisterra at Elland Road, while young talents such as Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have clearly progressed far quicker than the 2020 signing.

McCarthy said: "I think he wasn’t that consistent and I don’t think he’d been that good and it can be difficult with loan players.

“They come in and if they’re not playing, they think ‘why should I be here?’ and it affects the performance. I think when they went to Spain, he’s really knuckled down and what I’ve seen of him in training is different class He really is a good footballer. He’s got a lot to offer us.”

While he might be starting to find his feet in the Championship, one league start in nearly four years speaks for itself, and Gracia should look to sell the £8.2k-per-week Poveda permanently this summer rather than allowing him to continue rinsing chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

Leeds United Overtake Rivals In Race To Sign £20m Striker

Leeds United have overtaken Premier League rivals Everton in the race to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to reports.

What's the latest on Gyokeres to Leeds?

The Sky Blues forward will be out of contract at the Building Society Arena at the end of next season and being Mark Robins’ best-performing offensive player, not to mention that he’s also the current second-highest goalscorer in the Championship, has caught the eye of Javi Gracia at Elland Road.

Back in November, Football League World reported that Coventry were set to attempt to offer the 24-year-old a new long-term deal to fend off interest but 90min have since revealed that they are now resigned to losing him – therefore setting a price tag of £20m.

Football Insider recently credited the Whites with an interest in the Swedish international but noted that they were set to face competition for his services from the likes of West Ham, Everton, Palace, Brentford and Fulham, though they appear to be in a strong position heading into the upcoming window.

According to Football Insider once again, Leeds now “lead” Everton in the hunt for Gyokeres, with the Yorkshire outfit having “registered” their admiration for the forward and are keen for him to play under Gracia. The Toffees are “huge admirers” of their target and “would love” to make an offer for him but are aware of their financial limitations. Coventry are indeed “working hard” to get him to put pen to paper on an extension, though at this stage, a move elsewhere is the “more likely outcome”.

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Should Leeds splash the cash on Gyokeres?

If Leeds are to successfully avoid relegation and be handed a budget to go out and revamp their squad in the summer then Gyokeres should definitely be one of the first targets on the list.

The 6 foot 2 colossus has posted a remarkable 26 goal contributions (18 goals and eight assists) in 40 second-tier appearances this season, form which has seen him bag eight man-of-the-match awards and most recently the Championship Player of the Month accolade for March.

Coventry’s “unplayable” attacker, as lauded by his teammate Maxime Biamou, also ranks in the 99th percentile for progressive carries and the 98th for shot-creating actions and touches in the attacking penalty area, as per FBRef, showing that he’s always looking to make the magic happen even if he’s not always on the scoresheet, making this a no-brainer of a deal to complete.

West Ham Set For Three Man Injury Boost

Insider ExWHUEmployee has revealed that West Ham United trio Emerson Palmieri, Nayef Aguerd and Gianluca Scamacca are all in contention to play today despite fitness concerns.

What's the latest West Ham team news?

The Hammers face a huge game at the bottom of the Premier League today as they take on fellow relegation rivals Southampton at the London Stadium.

Indeed, both teams come into the fixture inside the bottom three, with David Moyes' men only one place and one point above the last-placed Saints.

Remarkably, with things so tight at the bottom of the division, a win could see West Ham rise as far as 14th in the division thanks to superior goal difference and with Everton not playing until tomorrow.

With that in mind, Moyes will want his best team available for selection and it sounds as though that could be a possibility with a few players potentially in line to play amid recent fitness issues.

Indeed, in a written post on The West Ham Way, Ex revealed that Emerson, Aguerd and Scamacca could all be involved in this important fixture.

He said: "The manager reported in his press conference that Emerson was suffering from a virus, Aguerd a sore hip and Scamacca was still feeling his knees but we believe all of them could be available for selection today."

Will Emerson, Aguerd and Scamacca play against Southampton?

As alluded to by Ex, it had looked as though the Hammers had been dealt a triple fitness blow with the aforementioned players all doubts coming into the game.

Indeed, speaking to the press in the week, Moyes explained that his team have "got a couple of illnesses here and there and a couple of odd injuries" to deal with.

He then went on to specifically say: “Emerson has got a bit of sickness, Aguerd came back with a bit of a grumbly hip and Scamacca’s got a sore knee. We’ll need to see how they are in the next few days.”

But following this update from Ex, it now seems as though that woe could be turned into joy with all three potentially available to pass a late fitness test and be involved.

All three have played over 1300 minutes for the club this season – with the most in the team being Jarrod Bowen on 2900 – so they're important squad players, even if Moyes has had to make do without them on other occasions this term.

With so much on the line today, it would be a major boost to have any of the three back, let alone all of them.

Arsenal Could Find New Trossard In Hale End Teen

Arsenal’s academy production has kicked into overdrive of late, with a wealth of talent currently propping up the first-team exploits that see them sitting atop the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta must also earn credit, as a coach capable of embedding such unproven assets into the senior squad with such ease that they are unburdened by the pressures that these steps up bring.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and more all came as relative unknowns, but their youth was no barrier to their emergence into the top division.

Such is this golden pathway that has since been paved, many of their current academy stars are also now pushing for their opportunity to shine.

One such name who continues to crop up amongst their top Hale End prodigies is Charles Sagoe Jr, with the dangerous winger posing a threat to all full-backs he faces at the U21 level.

As such, the teenager could be seen as the natural successor to Leandro Trossard, who has enjoyed a fine start to life in north London but is far older than many of his attacking teammates, giving credence to the suggestion that his spot will be available in a few years time.

Who is Charles Sagoe Jr?

Billed as a 'livewire attacking player' with immense versatility by Arsenal’s official website, the 18-year-old marvel has truly shone this season in Premier League 2.

Boasting five goals and two assists, his scintillating work in the youth team even led to his place on the bench in Arsenal’s first-leg Europa League clash with Sporting CP.

Journalist George Addo Jr had taken to Twitter only last month to outline how Sagoe Jr’s displays had caught widespread attention too, writing: “Charles Sagoe Jr has been in fine form for Arsenal U21s all season. He's now Arsenal's leading scorer in Premier League 2."

Whilst Trossard has just one goal since signing in January, the 28-year-old more than makes up for his lack of potency with a fine injection of much-needed creativity.

Arsenal's Leandro Trossard.

In just 12 league appearances for the Gunners, the Belgian already boasts seven assists and was named the club's player of the month for March. Not bad for someone who's only been in north London a matter of months.

He will now be the player in which the budding stars of Hale End look at in order to hone their impressive skills and Sagoe Jr should be no different.

Indeed, the fleet-footed youngster boasts similar qualities to the former Brighton ace, with an unpredictable nature capable of causing carnage among opposition defenders.

That was notably picked up on by another Hale End graduate in Reiss Nelson, who spoke directly to the winger, noting: “I’ve been watching you, I watch a lot of the U21 games and literally, I’m not just saying this because you’re here, you have everything to be an Arsenal winger.

“You’re unpredictable, you can move on your left, on your right, you can score, you can assist, you’ve got everything.”

With this huge praise, and the pathway in sight to eventually take over from the offensive exploits of Trossard, Sagoe Jr should feel confident that his time in the senior spotlight is just on the horizon.
