Rangers fans hated Goldson’s performance vs Hibs

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reflecting on the weekend’s action, and they’re absolutely fuming at Connor Goldson.

Goldson has become a very popular figure at Ibrox since his summer move from Brighton, making 44 appearances so far in his first season with the club.

The 26 year-old has been the one fixture in the heart of Steven Gerrard’s defence as the gaffer chops and changes between Gareth McAuley, Nikola Katic and Joe Worrall for the other centre back spot.

However, his form has gone off the deep end in recent weeks, and his showing in Friday’s 1-1 draw at Easter Road is drawing a lot of criticism.

The Gers travelled to take on Hibernian knowing only a win would realistically keep them in the title race, but Florian Kamberi’s second half strike cancelled out a wonderful opener from Daniel Candeias.

Celtic’s goalless draw on Saturday keeps a faint glimmer of hope alive, but fans are fuming nonetheless, and the Twitter reactions down below are pointing a lot of that fume at Goldson…

Leeds must sign O’Dowda instead of Hastie and James

Leeds United have managed to rediscover some form after their disappointing loss against Norwich City, having taken four points from their last two Championship fixtures.

The Whites have been completely redefined under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa after a rather disappointing campaign last time round, with promotion to the Premier League being the main aim from here on in.

Interestingly, the Yorkshire club have been linked with a couple of wingers in recent times, as the Whites are believed to still be very interested in signing Daniel James and Leeds reportedly (as per Daily Record) had scouts watching Motherwell youngster Jake Hastie against St Mirren.

Indeed, James has been impressive at Swansea City in the current campaign, with three goals and five assists to his name at this moment in time, while Hastie has made a name for himself in the Scottish Premiership in recent times, having produced four goals and one assist in eight appearances.

However, Leeds should forget about the promising pair and set their sights on a man who was linked (as per Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton) with a move to Elland Road back in the January transfer window, Callum O’Dowda.

And, the winger may leave Ashton Gate in the summer as it’s understood (as per Bristol Post) that there’s little prospect currently of O’Dowda signing a long-term contract renewal before the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international star has established himself as one of the brightest sparks in English football in the current campaign, having produced an impressive four goals and five assists. He hasn’t managed to produce an incredible amount of contributions, but it’s what he does in the build-up to goals that makes him a special player with the ability to get into promising positions and start attacks from deep.

Marcelo Bielsa encourages his wingers to get forward and attack the opposition’s defenders, which is exactly what O’Dowda thrives at and he even managed to cause Wolves lots of problems in the FA Cup recently, so it’s clear to see that he has the ability to cause Premier League teams problems, with the potential to develop into a star too.

Unai Emery has to have Arsenal thinking logically for once

Another European journey beckons for Arsenal, who travel to North West France to take on Ligue 1 side Rennes tonight.

While there’s an exponential level of financial difference between the two sides, Unai Emery will remain cautious after suffering a humiliation against BATE Borisov last month. Indeed, as Gunners fans will know, they really don’t tend to make things easy in the slightest.

Clearly, the Gunners will have half a mind towards the crunch clash against Manchester United on Sunday but need to try and wrap things up at France in order to make things easier going forward. That’s obvious. But Arsenal don’t often think that way.

Going in with an overly confident, almost nonchalant approach which came back to haunt them against BATE cannot be undertaken again. Few would bet against the Premier League giants winning over two legs but failing to batter the opposition tonight will make the end of their season so much harder.

After his experimentation failed, Emery shouldn’t risk an ambitious 3-man defence anymore.

Instead of trying to be overly defensively and grind through a draw, he should instead take the game to Rennes in a controlled manner. That’s the perfect scenario and almost stating the obvious but Emery has struggled to do that at times this season.

Obviously, Arsenal has enough attacking firepower to breach the enemy lines, as they should give Mesut Ozil and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang chances to shine. The two have developed a special bond, linking up amazingly and causing trouble to every opposition.

Neither started against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday and, to a large extent, that worked. This, though, is a different task altogether and the attack needs loading up.

Ozil thrives during such European nights and can torment Rennes with his movement and creativity, while Aubameyang can finish off the chances. Instead of going with error-prone defenders like Shkodran Mustafi, he should go with a stronger side instead of resting them for the United game.

Right now, a potential Europa League victory is more important than a Premier League top-four spot for Arsenal. Unai Emery needs to set his tactics accordingly and seal the deal in the first leg itself and head into the United game high in confidence.

Everton fans react to Davy Klaassen’s strike for Werder Bremen

[ad_pod ]

Davy Klaassen scored an absolute rocket for Werder Bremen in their 1-1 draw with Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Friday night.

Klaassen’s effort, which came just before the interval, ultimately earned his team a point and it was certainly some strike from the midfielder.

The Netherlands international has now scored three Bundesliga goals for Bremen this season, having arrived at the club from Everton last July.

Klaassen joined Everton in 2017 off the back of a 20-goal season with Ajax, but really struggled in England, failing to score in 16 appearances for the Toffees.

Now with Bremen, the 26-year-old appears to be enjoying his football once again.

A number of Everton fans took to social media to comment on the midfielder’s effort, with some lavishing praise on the club’s former player.

However, there were also others who insisted that the fanbase should not get carried away by what Klaassen did on Friday evening.

Patrick Bamford pulls off masterstroke after saying pressure is on Sheffield United

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford says the pressure is now on Sheffield United, in post-match comments reported by The Yorkshire Post, following the Blades’ 1-0 win at Elland Road on Saturday, and he has pulled off a genius masterstroke with his comments.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Whites had the opportunity to extend their lead over their Yorkshire rivals to five points when they hosted them at the weekend, but instead they ended up on the losing side meaning they now trail Chris Wilder’s men by a point.

With eight fixtures left to play it is very much still to play for in the automatic promotion race in the Championship, and Bamford was keen to put some pressure on the Blades, as reported by The Yorkshire Post.

He said: “The gap is not massive. It is tight and having been up there all season we have dealt with the pressure pretty well. Now the pressure, I think, will turn on Norwich and Sheffield.

“Norwich have been handling it, but for Sheffield it is the first time they have been in this position. It will be interesting to see how they cope with it, no longer being the underdogs and being in that pole position.”

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…

Brilliant from Bamford

On the back of such a disappointing result, the former Chelsea man has played this one very well.

While everyone will be talking about Leeds bottling promotion, the 25-year-old has spiced things up with his comments on Sheffield United.

Of course, the Bramall Lane-based outfit found themselves in a similar position earlier on in the campaign last term before fading away, and despite being heavily involved in the automatic promotion race in recent weeks the hub of the focus has still largely been on Leeds and Norwich.

Now Bamford has put the pressure on the Blades and taken some off of the Whites as result, and now we must wait and see until the end of the month to see how they deal with it.

Wolves fans on Twitter react as star forward Diogo Jota is linked with Tottenham

[ad_pod ]

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter have been split by transfer speculation linking their striker Diogo Jota with a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portugal man has been pivotal for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men at times this season, aiding them greatly in their push for seventh position in the Premier League.

His six goals and four assists in the league have been key and the player has also been able to further cement his place as a firm fan favourite at Molineux in 2018/2019.

It’s for these reasons that some supporters have been so apprehensive about Jota’s possible departure on Twitter, one commenting “no chance” and another simply telling Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs that they can “dream on.”

Other members of the wolf pack have shown slightly different attitudes, discounting the rumours as simple paper talk and even eyeing up a swap deal involving Son Heung-min of the Lilywhites.

Lots of positives for Newcastle to take from West Ham defeat

Despite suffering a 0-2 defeat at the London Stadium on Saturday evening, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez can be proud of the performance his team delivered against West Ham United.

Poor defending in the first-half led to Declan Rice opening the scoring from a corner as early as the seventh minute before a reckless challenge by centre-back Florian Lejeune on Javier Hernandez in the box gave Mark Noble the opportunity to score from the spot, which the Hammers captain calmly converted.

But, despite the poor decision making at critical times of the game costing the Magpies a possible result, Benitez’s men showed a lot of determination to try and get on the score-sheet with their buildup play, in particular, looking good for the whole match.

Accuracy and clear-cut chances ultimately prevented them from finding the back of the net, but it is clear the team is playing with a lot of confidence and freedom these days.

New-signing Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff were brilliant in the midfield and dictated play with relative ease.

It was also encouraging, from a Newcastle United perspective, to see how well the likes of Matt Ritchie and Javier Manquillo pressed up the pitch whenever the team went on the attack.

It gave Newcastle extra numbers going forward and caused West Ham a few nervy moments.

Newcastle also didn’t hesitate to get crosses into the box for Salomon Rondon to pounce on.

The team’s decision making was quick and forced the West Ham defenders to think on their feet and deliver a few last moment blocks to keep Newcastle out.

That is ultimately what has been the most impressive from this Newcastle outfit in recent weeks, to play according to their game plan and execute tactics as well as possible.

After a worrying start to their season, the north east club is currently 14th in the Premier League and has finally managed to get some consistency together.

If they continue to play with such a high level of energy and confidence then Benitez and his team could finish even higher up the table come the end of the season.

From the Premier League to the NFL: Harry Kane reveals future desire

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur and England forward Harry Kane has somewhat bizarrely revealed that he wants to play in the NFL before ending his sporting career.

Kane is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football, having scored 164 times in 249 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions.

The 25-year-old is also England captain and has struck 22 times in his 37 caps for the national team, including six at the 2018 World Cup to land the Golden Boot.

Kane – an avid follower of American Football – has said that he wants to try himself as a kicker in the NFL after he retires from football.

Kane told ESPN:

“[The desire to play in the NFL] is real. Something that in 10 or 12 years I definitely want to try. It goes back to that drive to be the best.

“Even if I download a game on my phone, can I be the best in the world? If you play in the Premier League and the World Cup and you then play in the NFL, would you then be considered one of the greatest sportsmen ever?”

For now, though, Kane will be fully focused on helping Tottenham secure a top-four position in the Premier League between now and the end of the campaign.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Matchday with Max caught up with Jamaica’s women’s team. See what happened when he met the history makers in the video below…

No longer title challengers, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have lost three of their last four in the league and now sit just three points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.

Kane has scored 24 times in 36 appearances for Spurs during the 2018-19 season.
