Estamos no caminho certo, vai dar tudo certo.

'It's intimidating greeting these guys' – Wiaan Mulder

Ottis Gibson has been impressed by Wiaan Mulder and is keen to get him involved with the national squad as soon as possible with an eye on the 2019 World Cup

When Wiaan Mulder walked out to bat for his franchise, Lions, on Monday afternoon, he knew his innings wouldn’t matter. Not because his team was 280 for 4 with one centurion, Reeza Hendricks, and another on the way, but because Mulder would only have seven overs to bat and he would not be able to continue the next day.At around 3pm, Mulder found out he would have to get on a flight to Cape Town to meet up with the ODI squad, where he would replace the injured Wayne Parnell. “I hadn’t gone in to bat yet. The coach told me I would be replaced by someone else,” Mulder said. So when Nicky van den Bergh was dismissed late in the day, Mulder wasn’t sure what he would do at all. “I said to the coach, ‘Must he go bat, or must I go bat?’ He said, ‘You’re still going in to bat and it’s important that you do your best for us’.”Mulder faced 24 balls and scored 18, with 12 of them coming in boundaries but he insists he wasn’t trying to be too aggressive. “I tried to get a not out overnight because the guy who’s replacing me would get a chance to bat today. It’s a funny feeling leaving the game,” Mulder said.On Tuesday morning, Wihan Lubbe took Mulder’s place and Mulder arrived in the national camp. “It’s extremely intimidating. Going to greet the guys – AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Kagiso Rabada – it was massive for me. I didn’t know what to say to them,” he said. “I just went and shook their hands and smiled. You’re not too sure what to do. I think it’s like that for everybody.”This is not Mulder’s first time with the senior side or around these players. He went to the same school as Rabada, St Stithians, but was three years younger than him. He was included as cover for Parnell ahead of the first Test in Potchefstroom but released when Parnell passed a fitness test and he also played with de Villiers and JP Duminy for the Invitation XI against Bangladesh last week. But this time it’s different because Mulder may actually get the chance to play at the highest level with them.Even though new South Africa coach Ottis Gibson said the team may not be tinkered with for the second ODI on Wednesday he did hint that experimentation could be on the cards in the final match on Sunday if the series is wrapped up. “Maybe in the third game, if we win tomorrow, we might make some changes.”Mulder will come into contention then, especially because he has been hand-picked by Gibson to be part of South Africa’s long-term plans. “He is very talented. One of the first days I got into the country, I went to the Wanderers and he was playing and I saw him and immediately liked him. I asked a question about him and they said he was in the system already and he is a very good Under-19 player,” Gibson said, referring to the opening round of first-class fixtures which he attended last month. Mulder took 4 for 70 in the first innings and scored 79, impressing Gibson with his all-round ability.Mulder is only 19 and Gibson is confident Mulder could develop into a candidate for the 2019 World Cup. That’s why Gibson wants to keep him as close to the national squad as possible. “One of the things we are trying to do as a one-day team is widen the pool of players that we need to choose from. He is here now because he is talented and he is somebody who in two years, if he develops in the right way, there is no reason why he can’t be part of the squad going forward. This is a good opportunity for us to have a look at him as well.”All this means expectation on Mulder is high and he has admitted he can’t quite guarantee that he is ready to meet it. “I’m not too sure if I’m ready,” Mulder said. But Mulder has been surrounded with good advice, especially from former U-19 World Cup winning captain and recent Test debutant Aiden Markram. “Aiden told me a couple of months ago to, ‘Go out there and be yourself. Don’t try and prove a point to anybody. Don’t try and be somebody that you’re not’,” Mulder said. “Just having that peace of mind, that no matter what you’ll still be the same person, is quite a big thing. It’s helped me with my success, going out there and not worrying too much about what the guys are saying or what they might say afterwards. A lot of young guys struggle with that because the mindset of just being yourself is tough. As a young guy you want to impress. You want to be the big guy. You want to be the guy who stands up when the occasion is there.”Mulder also intends to “feed off” the likes of de Villiers and Amla because he hopes to “become one of them one day” though that does not mean he will neglect his bowling. “I’d like to be a batsman who can bowl or a genuine allrounder,” Mulder said.Just like his other idol Jacques Kallis. “He has been my hero since I was a little boy. I used to watch him and say I want to be like Kallis one day.”And Mulder’s sporting role-models don’t end there. He also looks up to a man who is proving evergreen, tennis legend Roger Federer. “Just the way he approaches every match, the way he trains, the way he’s extremely strong mentally – he can come back from wherever he is in a match. He’s been my main role model in sport. His mindset is unbelievable. That’s driven me massively in tough situations, and even when the going is good.”

West Ham Could Sign £250k-p/w Antonio Replacement

West Ham United are still very active in the transfer market as they attempt to strengthen their squad before the window closes and now a new update has emerged on a potential transfer target.

Who is Anthony Martial signing for?

According to talkSPORT's transfer expert Alex Crook, West Ham are now interested in signing Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

As per a report written for the broadcaster, Crook claimed that after submitting offers for both Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, the Hammers are now looking to steal away a third Red Devils mainstay with Martial named as a target.

Crook notes that talks are in the early stages and Erik ten Hag may not be particularly keen on parting ways with the goal-scorer, due to a shortage of out-and-out number nines at Old Trafford.

United fear they are unlikely to get a big fee for the forward, as West Ham monitor the French forward's situation in the northwest.

How many goals has Anthony Martial scored?

There is no doubt that David Moyes and the West Ham hierarchy desperately need to step up their pursuit of their transfer targets with only a few weeks remaining to secure much-needed new additions in key positions.

Indeed, Declan Rice's £105m move to Arsenal is the most high-profile departure for the Irons, but they have also lost Manuel Lanzini and Gianluca Scamacca, whilst Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio's futures hang in the balance with both players keen for a move away.

As a result, the signing of Martial could be a great piece of business for Moyes as he looks to improve and bolster the attacking threat for the east Londoners, with the Man United striker a worthy heir to Antonio should he leave this summer.

The Frenchman has been a regular for the Red Devils over his long-standing tenure, scoring 88 goals and registering 53 assists over 298 appearances with a goal contribution delivered every 135 minutes played – an output that would be a major asset for West Ham this season.

martial-man-united-premier-league-transfers-west-ham

When comparing Martial's output with Antonio's last season, the 27-year-old comfortably outperformed the West Ham all-time top-scorer in a number of key attributes including shots on target rate (46.2% v 33.3%), pass completion (80.2% v 53.4%), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.58 v 1.92), goal-creating actions per 90 (0.46 v 0.44) and successful take-ons (53.8% v 40%), as per FBref.

The £250k-per-week ace has been the recipient of high praise over his career so far, with Man United legend Paul Scholes hailing Martial for his talent last term:

"Every United fan knows he has real talent. But we just need to see it more often.

"The lad’s got real ability. He’s been quiet for 18 months, we’re not sure what happened to him, injuries, confidence, but the lad has got ability, we need to see more of it. He can score a lot of goals."

Now that young goal machine Rasmus Hojlund has joined the Manchester giants, it could mean that Martial will struggle for game-time this season under Ten Hag, so a move to West Ham presents an attractive opportunity to earn first-team football consistently.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for West Ham to secure a deal for Martial this summer, as he could certainly ease the blow of losing Scamacca and offer Moyes a potential replacement for Antonio.

Tottenham Signing "Superb" £40m Ace Would Threaten Richarlison

Tottenham Hotspur's search to find a suitable successor to Harry Kane continues, with the latest reports indicating that the Lilywhites are plotting a move for Nottingham Forest speedster, Brennan Johnson.

How much would Brennan Johnson cost?

According to Football Insider, the north London outfit are currently 'keeping tabs' on the 22-year-old in their bid to land a possible replacement for Kane, with the latter man still looking set for a summer move to Bayern Munich.

As per the piece, Forest could be willing to sanction a sale if they are to receive a bid in excess of £40m, with both Aston Villa and Brentford – the latter of whom has already seen a £35m offer rejected – also in the race for his signature.

Read the latest Tottenham transfer news HERE…

This follows similar claims made by the Daily Mail's Simon Jones earlier this week, with the transfer insider reporting that while those at the City Ground are looking for a figure close to £50m, Spurs are keen to find something of a 'middle ground'.

How would Brennan Johnson fit in at Tottenham?

As the Independent's Miguel Delaney previously wrote, Spurs are unlikely to try and acquire a direct replacement for Kane through the middle, with the desire instead 'to reshape the attack amid Ange Postecoglou’s fluid new style'.

Johnson, therefore, could represent the attacking figurehead of that new-look front line, with there a potential for the former Lincoln City loanee to be flanked by the likes of Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski next season.

Tottenham striker Richarlison.

If the 19-cap international is to arrive through the door at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium it could then spell bad news for last year's summer signing, Richarlison, with the £60m addition potentially set to see his hopes of taking on the central striker role threatened.

The former Everton talisman endured a dismal debut season at N17 after scoring just a solitary Premier League goal, with Johnson, by contrast, scoring eight times to help Steve Cooper's men stave off relegation.

While the Brazilian did recently net a hat-trick against Lion City Sailors while on pre-season, it remains to be seen if the 26-year-old can replicate such heroics in the upcoming campaign, with talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor previously criticising the mercurial talent for having no "standout attributes".

Having failed to fire in 2022/23, Richarlison was also rather limited in a creative sense after creating just a solitary big chance from his 27 league outings, while his Forest counterpart created four big chances from his 38 appearances for the Midlands side.

Described as a "superb talent" by scout Jacek Kulig, Johnson had previously illustrated his devastating brilliance after registering 26 goal involvements as part of his current side's successful promotion charge during the 2021/22 campaign,

While that stellar haul did come in the second tier, it is still beyond anything that the current Spurs man has achieved during his time in English football to date, with the £90k-per-week man having hit career-best figures of 16 goals and assists in the league during the 2019/20 season while at Goodison Park.

That could well suggest that if Postecoglou does reinvest any potential Kane funds in Johnson, it could be Richarlison that proves one of the notable victims of that transaction.

Vihari's triple-hundred propels Andhra

Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari (302*) slammed his maiden triple-hundred and propelled his team to 584 for 5, before declaring the innings against Odisha in Vizianagaram. Resuming on 278 for 2, Vihari put on a 208-run stand with Ricky Bhui (100) and deflated Odisha, who had to wait 43.3 overs for their first wicket of the day. During the course of his 456-ball knock, Vihari smashed 29 fours and two sixes and added 159 to his overnight score. This was Vihari’s 13th first-class ton and second consecutive score of 150 or more.Bhui, meanwhile, brought up his fourth first-class hundred before Odisha captain Govinda Poddar trapped him lbw in the 134th over. In the next over, seamer Suryakant Pradhan dismissed D Ravi Teja to pick up his second wicket, but nothing was going to stop Vihari’s march. Odisha suffered an early jolt in their first innings when left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt had opener Natraj Behera lbw in the fourth over. Sandeep Pattanaik and Poddar, however, ensured there was no further damage as Odisha went to stumps at 32 for 1.B Indrajith (105*) and Washington Sundar (69) mounted a rescue effort with a fifth-wicket partnership of 157 runs to lift Tamil Nadu from 69 for 4 to 239 for 5 by stumps against Mumbai. Indrajith’s sixth first-class hundred, which included 12 fours, stood out as much for its elegance as its risk-free nature. While he mostly preferred to hit down the ground, he wasn’t averse to playing the horizontal shots on either side. Giving him useful company was Sundar, who drove and cut confidently, and responded swiftly to his partner’s calls for tight singles. Sundar, however, fell with 6.2 overs left in the day, after a half-hearted pull off Dhawal Kulkarni found deep square leg.Mumbai had hit the ground running in the morning with some quick wickets after being bowled out for 374. Seamer Akash Parkar cleaned up captain Abhinav Mukund in the fourth over before M Vijay (11) was caught behind by left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil in the 11th over. Mumbai captain Aditya Tare juggled the ball on a few occasions before snaffling it.After Kaushik Gandhi fell three overs later, Vijay Shankar, who had recovered from an injury scare to pick up his fourth wicket in the morning, looked to have settled down in the company of Indrajith. However, he gave Gohil the charge in the 25th over and was stumped. Indrajith, though, remained steady and took Tamil Nadu to safety in the company of R Ashwin.A 62-run partnership between opener Bishal Ghosh (65) and Gurinder Singh, who smashed a 55-ball 57, helped Tripura finish on 220 against Madhya Pradesh in Agartala after tottering on 88 for 6 at one stage.Tripura’s bowlers then reduced Madhya Pradesh to 200 for 7 to set up an interesting battle for the first-innings lead. Ishwar Pandey and Ankit Sharma finished with three wickets each for Madhya Pradesh. In their reply, Madhya Pradesh got off to a shaky start, as they lost opener Wasim Ahmed and Shubham Sharma inside the first 10 overs. With Naman Ojha (8) and captain Devendra Bundela (3), too, falling cheaply, it was left to opener Rajat Patidar (79) and Harpreet Singh Bhatia (70) to resuscitate the innings with a 104-run alliance for the fifth wicket. However, Gurinder trapped Patidar in front with his left-arm spin in the 52nd over before Ankit Sharma and Bhatia were dismissed in quick succession.

Aston Villa Ready To Submit Bid For "Magic" £42m Forward

Aston Villa are ready to make an offer to bring Juventus forward Federico Chiesa to the Premier League, according to fresh reports.

Is Federico Chiesa leaving Juventus?

The Italy international, who is naturally a left-winger, still has another two years to run on his contract with the Serie A outfit, but having been handed just six starts in league competition last season, he’s fallen significantly out of favour under Massimiliano Allegri at the Allianz Stadium.

As a result, Calciomercato have reported that the Turin giants are keen to sell the 25-year-old before the end of the ongoing window, and should he indeed look to seal a departure, he won’t be short of potential suitors with three clubs in the top-flight having already been linked with a swoop.

Read The Latest Aston Villa Transfer News HERE…

Italian newspaper Tuttosport previously claimed that NSWE, Monchi and Unai Emery are, as it stands, the most interested hierarchy in the experienced attacker despite rival interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United, and the following update would suggest that is very much still the case heading into the final few weeks of the summer.

Are Aston Villa signing Federico Chiesa?

According to Tuttosport once again (via Sport Witness), both Aston Villa and the Magpies are “ready to put €50m [£42m] plus bonuses on the table” to sign Chiesa ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Premier League “sirens” are going off and it’s claimed that the forward has rejected big-money offers from Saudi Arabia to explore his options elsewhere, likely in England.

Juventus appear to have since had a change of heart regarding his future though as it’s stated that they are planning to offer him a new deal, but it’s “not clear” whether their stance could alter for a second time should an irresistible offer arrive at their door.

Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.

In the Serie A last season, Chiesa posted seven goal contributions (five assists and two goals) in 21 appearances, which shows just how much of a positive and instant impact he made despite receiving limited minutes, so should he put pen to paper, the winger would be an extremely exciting acquisition for Aston Villa.

The Genoa native, who’s sponsored by Nike, also averaged 4.34 shot-creating actions per league match which was the third-highest total throughout the whole of his squad, via FBRef, highlighting his constant desire to produce chances for himself and his fellow teammates in the final third.

Juventus’ “magic” dynamo, as dubbed by members of the media, is additionally a versatile operator having been deployed in seven various positions across the pitch since the start of his career, including everywhere across the frontline and even three roles in the midfield, so he’d be a useful option for Emery to have at his disposal.

Furthermore, Chiesa knows what it takes to compete and be successful at the highest level with four pieces of silverware to his name, so he would be able to match the positive, winning mentality of the squad who are already getting to work in the Midlands.

Leeds Among Main Contenders For "Very Clever" £85k-p/w Star

Leeds United are now among the main contenders to sign West Ham United's Michail Antonio this summer, with the forward pushing hard for a move, according to recent report from Football Transfers.

Is Michail Antonio leaving West Ham this summer?

With just one year remaining on his West Ham contract, it now appears very likely that Antonio will leave this summer, and he has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs, with TEAMtalk recently naming Wolverhampton Wanderers as potential suitors.

The Hammers are open to offers for the striker, who was in and out of David Moyes' starting XI last season, with Everton and Nottingham Forest also in the mix, following the collapse of his proposed move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

Read The Latest Leeds Transfer News HERE

According to a report from Football Transfers, the Jamaica international is now pushing hard for a move away this summer, and he has no shortage of suitors, with Leeds and Celtic among the main contenders for his signature.

After quite a poor season by his standards, scoring more goals in the Europa Conference League than he did in the top flight, a change of scenery is now on the cards for the 33-year-old, but he may not be available immediately.

Moyes is set to block any potential exit before a proper replacement is found, with the Hammers in dire need of new attacking options, after Gianluca Scamacca recently joined Atalanta in a deal worth £27m.

A small fee may be required to sign the London-born forward, given that he still has one year left on his contract, with the Whites keen to add him to their squad, having already lost some attacking talent during the summer transfer window.

Is Michail Antonio joining Leeds?

With a number of Premier League clubs vying for the West Ham star's signature, it may be difficult for Daniel Farke to win the race for his signature, although a move to Elland Road could be an attractive offer, as he is likely to get more game time in the Championship.

Last season, the former Nottingham Forest man demonstrated he still has what it takes to compete at a high level, weighing in with six goals for the Hammers en-route to their Europa Conference League triumph, which suggests he could be a top player at Championship level.

The veteran striker clearly knows where the back of the net is, but he also has a number of other key strengths, having been hailed by Premier League journalist Chris Williams, who said:

"Michail Antonio is a very clever player, reads defenders exceptionally well, then has the strength and power to take them on and cause mayhem. Brilliant player to watch."

Not only that, the £85k-per-week attacker is also extremely versatile, having featured at full-back, on both wings, and at striker throughout his career, which could make him a fantastic option for Farke.

Antonio could be a perfect signing for a team with aspirations of being promoted from the Championship, and Leeds should definitely pursue a deal for him once West Ham sign a replacement.

New Zealand spinners, Devine rout Pakistan

Amelia Kerr took 3 for 35 to topple Pakistan over for just 147, a score they chased down with 26 overs and seven wickets in hand

The batsmen then had little trouble in hunting down the target with seven wickets in hand and 26 overs to spare. Sophie Devine continued her fine form from the first ODI, hitting a 48-ball 62 with eight fours.Pakistan elected to bat first, but struggled from the outset, losing Ayesha Zafar in the seventh over for 2. Opener Nahida Khan and captain Bismah Maroof brought Pakistan back into the game with a 46-run, third-wicket partnership of 75 balls, the second-highest stand of the match. The middle order, though, capitulated against Kerr and offspinner Leigh Kasperek, losing 5 for 39 to slump to 113 for 7. Sana Mir hit 31 off 46 balls, but Pakistan lost their last three wickets without a run.In reply, captain Suzie Bates and Devine struck an 80-run opening stand in just 12.5 overs. Amy Satterthwaite struck 25 off 34 balls. Offspinner Javeria Khan took 2 for 6 in her three overs.

Wolves Could Save Their Season With "Aggressive" £180-p/w Starlet

Wolverhampton Wanderers are facing an uphill battle this summer, as Julen Lopetegui battles the need to make signings with the Old Gold’s inability to spend.

The Midlands club have extensive financial woes amid the emergence of their Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues back in May, handing the Spaniard added constraints to his transfer plans.

Despite such limitations, the former Real Madrid boss opted to remain at the club in the bid to build on his first spell at Molineux.

What’s the latest on Wolves’ transfer situation?

With the aim to relieve financial pressures, the club have sanctioned the moves of seven players for economic gain, making around £90m in sales.

Despite allowing such individuals to depart, the issue remains that the club has little funds to spend in order to replenish the squad amid the drop in numbers.

As well as the profitable departures, Wolves have also bid farewell to the likes of Diego Costa, Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho who left at the expiration of their contracts in the Midlands.

Lopetegui admitted that he is “worried” about the size of his squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, with the Spaniard having doubts over their ability to compete in the league.

The Old Gold must find a solution to their lacking squad size and imbalance of quality, however the concerned manager could find some light in seeking assistance from the academy.

Who is Nathan Fraser?

As reported by journalist Liam Keen, relayed by Talking Wolves, the club are stalling a possible loan move from Shrewsbury for striker Nathan Fraser, with the belief that Wolves see the 18-year-old as a backup option.

The young Irishman has featured heavily in the club’s pre-season festivities on the back of signing a new deal with the Midlands side in June.

A budding forward, the £180-per-week teenager netted seven Premier League 2 goals last season and has been praised for his “aggressive and strong” approach to leading the line by head of coaching Jonathan Hunter-Barrett.

Lopetegui could find himself a hero by giving Fraser a chance to perform in the top-tier, in a division that has seen many managers rewarded for their gamble with academy talents.

Not many academy graduates have come through as strong as Harry Kane, who took his chance from Mauricio Pochettino in his first full Premier League season at Tottenham.

The Englishman netted 21 goals in his first taste of being the primary choice forward at White Hart Lane in the 2014/15 campaign, in a chance that sparked the beginning of a history-breaking talent.

Fast-forward to now and the 30-year-old is the club’s leading goal-scorer and has scored 213 Premier League goals in 317 appearances for the Lilywhites.

While the instance of Kane’s talent and rise to the top is rare, Lopetegui could take a page out of Pochettino’s box in handing a real chance to a young forward lower down the pecking order in a time of need.

The 18-year-old is yet to have a taste of senior football at competitive level for Wolves, however taking into consideration the club’s anxieties going into the new season, now could be the perfect time for the Spaniard to trial the hungry talent.
