The victorious Pakistan women pose with the trophy after beating West Indies women for the first time in an ODI series•PCB

Sidra Ameen’s half-century and three-fors from Diana Baig and Nashra Sandhu led Pakistan to a four-wicket win against West Indies in the third ODI, giving the home team a historic 2-1 series victory – their first against West Indies. The win gave Pakistan two points, lifting them above West Indies to fourth place in the ICC Women’s Championship table. Pakistan now have 12 points, the same as India, but with a much inferior net run rate. West Indies remain on 11 points. The Pakistan bowlers continued their fine show from the second ODI, in which they had bowled out West Indies for 206. This time, the visitors managed only 159. Captain Stafanie Taylor opted to bat, scored 52, and even took 2 for 17, but her all-round show wasn’t enough to take West Indies through.Taylor had to walk out in the first over, Kycia Knight having been bowled by Baig off the third ball of the innings, and she stayed till the 37th over as wickets fell around her. West Indies were in a good position early on till Taylor and Deandra Dottin were batting together but Dottin’s aggressive 28 off 20 came to an end when she was run-out by Nida Dar in the eighth over.Shemaine Campbelle then joined Taylor for a 52-run stand as West Indies consolidated, but once Campbelle was caught behind off Sandhu, the innings stuttered. They slipped from 87 for 2 in the 20th over to 159 all out, losing their last eight wickets for only 72 runs. Only one other batsman – Afy Fletcher – reached double figures after that and she remained unbeaten on 21. The 21-year-old Sandhu built a stranglehold in the middle overs, taking 3 for 21 in ten overs. Baig returned to end Taylor’s 95-ball stay with a return catch, before adding one more wicket to end with 3 for 42 in eight overs. The trio of Sana Mir, Dar, and Kainat Imtiaz were also parsimonious, conceding at less than three runs per over each.Pakistan’s reply was steady, with opener Ameen’s second straight half-century guiding the chase early on. She shared useful stands with fellow opener Nahida Khan, Javeria Khan, and Dar, before falling for 52 off 107 in the 39th over. Ameen’s wicket induced a mini-wobble, as Pakistan went from 128 for 3 to 139 for 6 in the space of 22 balls, but the experienced Mir came in at No. 8 and guided the team home, hitting a boundary with the scores level to seal victory in 47.2 overs.Shakera Selman took 2 for 24 in ten overs while Taylor had a fruitful seven-over stint too. But the other bowlers couldn’t sustain the pressure as much to defend the sub-par total.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi and Deco view the signing of a pivot as a priority and are looking for the long-term successor to the legendary Sergio Busquets. Kimmich is seen as the ideal option to replace Oriol Romeu, who has struggled since joining from Girona last summer. The German has been a mainstay in the Bayern side in recent years and boasts eight Bundesliga titles to his name.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kimmich’s future in Bavaria has been the subject of debate for many months, mainly due to the fact his current deal expires at the end of next season. Still just 29, he could offer Barca many more years of top-quality football and would line up alongside international colleague Ilkay Gundogan in the heart of midfield.

Real Betis’ Guido Rodriguez is another enforcer being eyed as a potential transfer option by the Blaugrana. However, Kimmich is the one favoured by those in power at the Spanish club thanks to his combination of technical ability and physical prowess.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

While he has excelled in midfield throughout his career, Kimmich has spent much of this season deployed at right-back by Thomas Tuchel – the Bayern boss opting for a Leon Gortezka and Konrad Laimer pairing in the middle of late.

But Kimmich often drifts into midfield from his position on the flank and has displayed his attacking talents with two goals and 10 assists in all competitions – including the crucial winner against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

    WHAT NEXT FOR KIMMICH?

Kimmich could be one of many key Bayern players rested this weekend when they travel to fellow European qualifiers Stuttgart. With the Bundesliga title surrendered to Bayer Leverkusen, next Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid is the number one priority for Tuchel. The first meeting between the two giants finished 2-2, with Leroy Sane and Harry Kane each on the scoresheet at the Allianz Arena.

Martin must unleash “ridiculous” Southampton gem alongside Alcaraz

Southampton extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to 14 games after resoundingly beating Blackburn Rovers 4-0 last weekend, Jon Dahl Tomasson's Riversiders second best all afternoon at St Mary's as Russell Martin's men showed no mercy in a rampant display.

Martin's use of the substitutes bench came in clutch in this contest, with Sekou Mara and Carlos Alcaraz both scoring after being introduced into the game late on to ensure the three points were secure to avoid any worries of a slip-up.

Those late strikes in the one-sided match on the South Coast could see both players come into the starting eleven today, Carlos Alcaraz itching to add more goals to his Saints resume if selected for today's contest against a frail QPR defence.

Carlos Alcaraz's game vs Blackburn in numbers

Alcaraz only needed 14 minutes on the pitch against Dahl Tomasson's Rovers to add another goal to his growing Southampton account, up to seven goals now for the Championship club since joining in January of this year from his native Argentina.

He could have a double on another day in a blistering cameo off the bench, awkwardly missing a penalty with a dinked effort from the spot before firing in his side's fourth of the game deep into injury time at the end of the 90 minutes.

The Saints' number 22 even held his hands up to the St Mary's masses to apologise for the poor penalty miss after scoring, more than atoning for that error with the strike.

Successful with three out of four dribble attempts too from such a short spell on the pitch, Alcaraz was a handful from the minute he came on and was an impactful presence to bring on late into the game to overwhelm a tiring Blackburn defence.

Martin could well be tempted to start his livewire Argentinian attacker next match as a result, with Sekou Mara also clamouring for a starting opportunity against QPR after an equally impactful cameo off the bench.

Sekou Mara's game vs Blackburn in numbers

Mara was introduced into the contest in place of a surprisingly below-par Adam Armstrong, showing the usually clinical attacker how to find the back of the net in this one on a rare goalless afternoon for the ex-Newcastle United striker.

The 21-year-old crucially prodded home after Ryan Fraser crossed into the danger area, the young Frenchman putting the game beyond all doubt as a result.

Mara's trickery on the ball would also win the Saints a penalty before this game-clinching goal, twisting and turning Blackburn shirts whilst eyeing up an effort on the Rovers net before being stopped in his tracks by a rash tackle.

Coming off the pitch at the end overjoyed at his short but sweet 14-minute cameo on the St Mary's turf, Mara also failed to misplace a single ball in the game with two of his three ground duels also successfully won.

Mara has shone in a Saints kit in the past away from just this second-tier season in isolation, even receiving praise for his individual displays during their relegation campaign from the Premier League.

The Frenchman was hailed as "ridiculous" by football pundit and ex-Manchester City player Micah Richards in the aftermath of assisting Kyle Walker-Peters last season versus Leeds United on Match of the Day, showboating on the ball before cutting the Whites defence open with an inch-perfect pass through in the 2-2 draw.

The skilful attacker will hope his promising cameo against Blackburn will be enough to be rewarded with only his second start of the season today, even unsettling the status quo on the South Coast with Adam Armstrong potentially dropped to make way for the Saints' number 18 to further strut his stuff.

"Incredible" Leeds player may miss next three games under Daniel Farke

Leeds United could now be without the services of one first-team player for three of their upcoming matches under Daniel Farke, according to latest developments.

Leeds United prepare for Blackburn Rovers…

Consistent results have been key to building Leeds' promotion charge this term and Farke's side secured a seventh home victory on the trot in the Championship last weekend in a 3-2 triumph over Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Despite a chaotic afternoon in Yorkshire, Farke was delighted with his side's ability to claim three points against a competent opponent, saying in his post-match press conference:

"It was a wild game in the first half and probably every football fan must have enjoyed this game. I loved what we did, but as a manager I liked the second half when we calmed everything down and didn't play with any mistakes."

"We still had big chances and we had just one mistake when we gave a counter attack, but we were able to play it out with a monster block from Joe Rodon. This was the only situation I was a bit unhappy with. For me a priceless three points against a very good opponent."

Fellow top-half side Blackburn Rovers lay in wait at Ewood Park this weekend in another test of the Whites' capabilities as they continue to try and hunt down Ipswich Town in second; however, that will be a tough ask, considering the Tractor Boys hold a seven-point advantage over their nearest challenger to the automatic promotion slots.

Nevertheless, Farke could now be without one of his first-team squad members for the next three matches due to a fresh development at Elland Road.

Ian Poveda called up for Colombia

According to Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross, Leeds winger Ian Poveda has earned a call-up for Colombia and could now miss the Whites' next three matches following news from Elland Road that Farke approved his potential absence, as he explained below.

In the attached report, it is detailed that Poveda will potentially be involved with Colombia for the first time at any level if he takes to the field in their two upcoming international friendlies against Venezuela and Mexico. As a result, his involvement against Blackburn Rovers is now in doubt and he could also miss upcoming clashes against Sunderland and Coventry City.

Leeds forward Ian Poveda.

Labelled "incredible" by Pep Guardiola, the Southwark-born winger has been a bit-part player under Farke this campaign, making seven appearances in all competitions (Poveda statistics – Transfermarkt).

Despite his availability now being cast into uncertainty, the opportunity for Poveda to gain experience on the international stage can only be a good thing regarding his development as a player, so it's good to see Farke giving te green light to tee player to read abroad, even if it leaves him a little lighter of wide options.

De Villiers-Wiese magic knocks down Multan Sultans

How the match played out
Lahore Qalandars – the whipping boys of the PSL no more. Or so their fans would hope, and the manner of victory on Friday must have raised their hopes. At one stage, it looked like familiar sorry tale would play out. Qalandars looked set to concede in excess of 220. Drooped shoulders and worried faces within the team, nails chipping sharply off the owner’s finger – it wasn’t where they wanted to be. Then they found a magic wand through the fingers of an 18-year-old from Nepal.Sandeep Lamichhane, fast becoming a global T20 citizen, struck three vital blows to stymie Multan Sultans as they finished on 200 for 6. Buoyed but by no means guaranteed victory, Qalandars started superbly courtesy a bruising Fakhar Zaman half-century before panicking. Sweetly-timed strokes replaced by mistimed hoicks, shrieks of desperation and eventually three wickets in the space of nine deliveries. The onus was on AB de Villiers, still quite the crowd favourite even if he is now nearly a year into international retirement. On a smallish Sharjah ground, he set himself in, saw the asking rate spiral to 14 with five overs left. Then left with little option but to go for broke, he launched a sensational assault, bringing up his half-century off just 26 balls courtesy three fours and three sixes, including a sensational reverse scoop over third man after having set himself up originally for a ramp over fine leg.He was helped in no small part by fellow South African David Wiese, who muscled five sixes, including one off the final delivery with Qalandars needing three to win. The outpour of emotions in the aftermath, and the ‘dancing in the isles’ – made famous by Tony Greig’s on-air commentary frenzy – by men wearing light-green t-shirts told you a story. This was one of Qalandar’s most special PSL memory yet. This was the second-highest successful chase in PSL history, only behind Quetta Gladiators’ chase of 201 against Qalandars in 2016.Turning points

  • After a blistering half-century from Zaman, Junaid Khan tilted the game firmly in Sultans’ favour with a three-wicket burst in just seven deliveries. Qalandars, flying high and happy, encountered turbulence. Was a crash landing on the cards?
  • Brendan Taylor’s experience may have been invaluable. His presence along with de Villiers after the clutch of wickets could’ve given Qalandars the stability before the final kick, but he hobbled off after facing just one delivery. A pulled calf-muscle could yet put his PSL campaign on the rocks as he had to be helped off by two of his team-mates and the physio.
  • The biggest moment, however, was the drop in the 18th over of the chase. With Qalandars needing 33 off 14, Wiese top-edged a wild heave to be caught superbly by Malik running in from cover. Then, he saw the umpire signal no-ball, they ran a single and de Villiers tonked the free-hit for a six. The pressure was off, the game back in Qalandar’s control.

Star of the dayMultan’s opening pair of James Vince and Umar Siddiq added 135 in just 11.5 overs. Vince accounted for 84 of those, 64 coming in boundaries. Such was the flurry of sixes that the fourth umpire, who would’ve loved to sit inside the cosy air-conditioned box, had to run in a number of times with a box of used balls. Siddiq played the perfect foil in the partnership, allowing the more-established Vince to play his way. It was the perfect combination of fire and ice, before Lamichhane, another ice-cool teenager, kept tossing the ball up in the hope of a wicket.Lamichhane was welcomed with a biff from Vince that sailed into the crowd at deep midwicket, pummeled over the same region four balls later. The over went for 18 – it wasn’t the PSL welcome he was looking for, but hey, he wasn’t done. In his second over, the 12th of the innings, he continued to be brave. Denied once after a miscue landing short of long-on, he had Vince holing out to long-on off a skiddy delivery that rushed through to come off the bottom of the bat.In his next over, Lamichhane was launched for two huge sixes but had the last laugh when Shoaib Malik, looking to sustain momentum, was caught at long-off looking for a third six in the over. His third strike, in the 16th over, was the biggest of the lot. Andre Russell, among the most-feared hitters in world cricket, had just been dropped three balls earlier, and carted Lamichanne out of the ground. But he deceived him in the air, and had him top-edge a slog for a smart return catch. This played a key role in Sultans finishing with a total much lower than they looked set to get at one stage.Where they standQalandars lifted themselves off the bottom to be placed third after four games. Sultans are a spot below, with a solitary win in the same number of matches.

Permanent deal to come?! David Raya officially wins Premier League Golden Glove during Arsenal loan spell after nearest rival Jordan Pickford concedes during Everton's clash with Luton

David Raya is now certain to win the Premier League’s Golden Glove after Luton’s Elijah Adebayo scored against nearest rival Jordan Pickford.

Pickford failed to keep clean sheet versus LutonRaya's move still not made permanentCech the last Arsenal player to win awardWHAT HAPPENED?

Raya has kept 14 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for Arsenal this season, conceding only 23 goals. Everton’s Pickford, his nearest rival, had to prevent Luton from scoring at Kenilworth Road in order to stand a chance of winning the award outright, as the England No.1 boasted a record of 12 clean sheets with three games remaining prior to kick-off. But he could not prevent Adebayo cancelling out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s opener, meaning Raya has officially won the award for the most clean sheets in 2023/24.

Mikel Arteta’s gamble to replace Aaron Ramsdale with Raya after bringing in the Spaniard on loan from Brentford last summer has certainly paid off. While the 28-year-old stopper has made a few mistakes, including for Cristian Romero’s goal in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Tottenham, he has proven his worth in all areas and looks certain to have his move to the Emirates made permanent.

DID YOU KNOW?

Raya is the first Arsenal player to win the Golden Glove since Petr Cech way back in 2015-16. That season, the Czech custodian kept 16 clean sheets as the Gunners finished second in the table behind Leicester.

Winning an individual award is always nice, but Raya will be fully focused on Arsenal’s assignment against Bournemouth tomorrow. Victory in the early kick-off will keep the pressure on Manchester City in the title race – and another clean sheet will ensure that Pickford cannot even equal his total.

Orta had a disaster with Leeds star who’s now worth £4.3m

Leeds United decided to part ways with sporting director Victor Orta back in May shortly before the club's relegation from the Premier League.

The Spanish chief had plenty of highs and lows at Elland Road and his work in the transfer market left a lot to be desired, particularly towards the end of his time in Yorkshire.

One signing that has turned out to be a disaster for the Whites is central defender Diego Llorente, who is currently out on loan at Roma this season.

The 30-year-old stopper was snapped up from Real Sociedad for a reported fee of £18m in the summer of 2020. It was claimed that Leeds wanted to sign Josko Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb for the same figure but lost out to RB Leipzig in that particular race.

Diego Llorente's form for Leeds

Llorente went on to play 59 competitive matches for the Whites across two-and-a-half seasons with the club before his loan move to Roma at the start of this year.

His availability left a lot to be desired during his debut campaign in England as the defender missed 23 games through three separate injury issues.

Leeds defender Diego Llorente.

He was then able to play 28 Premier League matches during the 2021/22 campaign but Leeds only kept five clean sheets in those outings.

The experienced dud then struggled during the first half of last season as he only made eight top-flight appearances before his January exit.

Sky Sports pundit Sue Smith described him as being "really poor" against Brentford in September 2022 and Llorente made two errors that led to goals for the opposition in those eight games.

The fee Leeds could receive for Llorente

It was recently reported by Roma Metropolitan Magazine that the Italian side could strike a deal for his services on a permanent basis for a fee within the region of €5m (£4.3m) next summer.

The Spanish giant has been a solid performer for the Serie A outfit with zero errors that have led to shots or goals for the opposition in 14 league appearances this term, and has not been a liability for his team.

AS Roma's loan defenderDiego Llorente.

He has won 65% of his defensive duels and completed 91% of his attempted passes in those 14 games, which suggests that the Leeds flop has been a reliable operator in and out of possession.

However, his current performances for Roma do not take away from how much of a disaster the transfer was for the Whites if they end up cashing in on him for £4.3m.

It is a staggering £13.7m loss on the £18m that was spent to secure his services ahead of the 2020/21 campaign under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds did not get much in the way of quality displays on the pitch, due to the aforementioned injury and performance issues, and now look set to make a major loss on the money they paid for him.

Therefore, Orta had a disaster with the signing of Llorente from Sociedad back in 2020 and the now-Sevilla sporting director may not look back on that piece of business as one of his finer moments at the club.

To rub salt in the wound, RB Leipzig went on to sell Gvardiol, who was the preferred target for Leeds ahead of the Spaniard, to Manchester City for a reported fee of £77.6m earlier this year.

Behind-scenes tension at West Ham as reporter shares Moyes contract update

Journalist Wayne Veysey has detailed behind-the-scenes "tension" at West Ham right now with what he describes as a big update on David Moyes' future.

Moyes looking very likely to leave in 2024

The Hammers boss' current deal expires in June next year as things stand, and reports have suggested Moyes is very likely to leave and not be offered a new deal.

ExWHUemployee says West Ham want 23 y/o who Scott Parker called an "animal"

The 60-year-old's second stint in charge of West Ham comes as the club's most successful era in recent decades, with the east Londoners clinching a first major trophy since 1980 last season.

West Ham's Europa League Conference triumph in Prague also comes as their first European trophy since the 1960s, and success abroad has been a reoccurring theme of Moyes' tenure.

They've qualified for Europe in three of their last three seasons under Moyes, sailing through to the Europa League semi-finals in 2022 before lifting the Conference League title earlier this year.

West Ham are also through to the last 16 of this season's Europa League after a comfortable group stage campaign, yet some supporters have expressed disdain for Moyes' playing style recently and their league form can leave a lot to be desired.

Moyes came close to being sacked by West Ham on multiple occasions last term as well, with reliable news outlets lifting the lid on his difficult relationship with new technical director Tim Steidten (The Guardian).

The Scotsman's future, despite some real successes, appears to be up in the air. It is also believed West Ham are doing due diligence on Moyes' future replacement.

West Ham United manager David Moyes

“Our understanding is that West Ham have been looking at future replacements for him," said 90min journalist Toby Cudworth last month (Talking Transfers via West Ham Zone).

"He won the Conference League in June, has one year left on his contract, but there’s been no engagement over a new contract.

“One thing we can say with near-certainty, David Moyes is not going to be signing an extension at West Ham barring a miracle.”

Journalist shares Moyes future update amid West Ham "tension"

According to reporter Veysey, sharing his own news on Moyes for Football Insider, there is "significant tension behind the scenes" at West Ham and the former Everton manager is yet to hold any talks over his future.

In what's been described as a "big" update on Moyes potentially quitting, his future remains up in the air and his contract issue appears to be pushed to the side right now.

Veysey reiterates the strained dynamic between Moyes and Steidten, who club insider ExWHUemployee described as co-chairman David Sullivan's right-hand man recently.

West Ham's form has also been pretty inconsistent this month. Lately, they've been on the wrong end of 5-0 and 5-1 drubbings against Fulham and Liverpool respectively, but did seal impressive wins over Spurs and Freiburg earlier in the month.

Wolves eyeing move to sign "intelligent" Vimal Yoganathan ahead of rivals

Some may have worried for Wolverhampton Wanderers when Julen Lopetegui left at the end of pre-season, but the arrival of Gary O'Neil quickly put an end to any concerns. The former Bournemouth boss has eased any relegation fears so far this season and has the Midlands club sitting comfortably in mid-table.

Now, he could get the opportunity to welcome some January reinforcements, which could see his side take things up a level or two. Reports suggest that Wolves could also have an eye on the summer transfer window, however, with the chance to sign one particular League One gem who has attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides.

Wolves transfer news

Given how late O'Neil arrived, he didn't quite get the chance to make his mark on the Wolves squad during the summer transfer window, meaning that January and next summer could be crucial windows for his tenure. Whilst the manager's immediate attention could be on keeping the Midlands club in the Premier League, he may help them on their way to returning to the top half of England's top flight with the right additions, which could include one potential future star next summer.

According to Will Unwin of The Guardian, Wolves are monitoring Barnsley youngster Vimal Yoganathan ahead of a possible move, alongside Brentford, Bournemouth and Championship side Southampton. All four clubs have their eye on the 17-year-old, who also reportedly has a professional deal on the table at Barnsley.

If Yoganathan fails to sign a professional contract at the League One side, then he could leave on a cut-price deal upon the expiry of his current deal during the summer transfer window. That could then see the likes of Wolves swoop in and land the former Liverpool academy man ahead of Premier League rivals Brentford and Bournemouth.

Wolves would be wise to sign "intelligent" Yoganathan

If Wolves want to avoid future relegation battles, then ensuring that they've got young talent with the potential to step into O'Neil's side could be the key in the long run. Those at Molineux have seen the likes of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman grow into top Premier League options in the last few years and will now be looking to find their next star man. And that may well be Yoganathan.

Max Kilman

The central midfielder has already earned some minutes for Barnsley's first team this season, making appearances in the FA Cup and EFL Cup as well as playing in the EFL Trophy. At 17 years of age, the only way could be up for Yoganathan, whether that be at his current club or, indeed, Wolves or elsewhere in English football. Certainly rated highly by those at Barnsley, former player Bobby Hassell was full of praise for Yoganathan back in April, saying: “He’s had a really good season. He’s six foot three but needs to get stronger. He loves a tackle, is an intelligent player and can score goals.”

With that said, whilst Wolves' focus will be on the current task at hand – maintaining their Premier League status – those at the club could have one eye on Yoganathan's progress at Barnsley ahead of a potential move, making this one to watch.
