Expensive crock: Leeds fans don’t want Andy Carroll

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are absolutely certain that they don’t want Andy Carroll to sign for the club.

It was recently announced that the England international wouldn’t be signing a new deal with West Ham and would be free to leave this summer. The question was put to Whites supporters on social media and the response was resounding.

There’s no doubting Carroll’s quality, but many members of the fanbase had concerns about his injury record.

The striker has played just 102 league games in his past six years as a Hammer, and with reported wages being £90,000-a-week he clearly doesn’t justify his pay packet.

Carroll may have to drop into the Championship for his next move as he has been less than impressive over the past few years, but if he came to Yorkshire to play under Marcelo Bielsa he certainly wouldn’t get a warm welcome.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Rangers fans hate Brighton links to Tavernier and Kamara

[ad_pod ]

Brighton have been linked with a move for Rangers duo James Tavernier and Glen Kamara but fans of the Ibrox club aren’t keen on the interest.

Website TEAMtalk reported on Tuesday that new Seagulls boss Graham Potter was preparing to make bids for both players this summer, having tried to sign Kamara when manager of Swansea.

Tavernier is the club’s captain and crucial to not only the dressing room but also the way Rangers play in general, generating a massive amount of goals and assists last season from the right flank.

Kamara meanwhile has been a revelation since joining for a budget fee from Dundee in January, freshening up the Gers midfield and looking every bit like he’ll be a regular starter for manager Steven Gerrard next season.

Understandable then that Rangers fans don’t want either player sold unless it’s for silly money.

These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts on the speculation…

Andros Townsend can help solve Leicester’s troublesome wide area

[ad_pod ]

According to The Mirror, Leicester are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend this summer.

What’s the word?

Townsend’s 2018/19 campaign was very understated. It was his best scoring season to date and he even found the net with one of the goals of the season.

Back in December, the wide man let fly from range with a rasping volley which beat Manchester City’s Ederson from outside the penalty area.

If fans of the Foxes need a reminder of the player they might be getting then all they need to do is rewatch that strike.

The winger has been a reliable performer for the Eagles of late and it’s that consistency which may now see him move to pastures new.

The Mirror claim that Brendan Rodgers is set to test Palace’s resolve for Townsend in a deal which could cost around £14m.

Creative spark

At times he has a habit of being a frustrating player, but there are reasons to suggest he could be the man to finally solve Leicester’s problems from the flanks.

Over the season that’s just played out, the former England international found the back of the net on nine occasions in all competitions. He also helped himself to four assists.

Given the Eagles’ lack of attacking nous, this is a fine return for a player who is now entering his prime years.

In recent weeks, Leicester have shown interest in Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Kevin Augustin but whether they’d cut it in the Premier League is open for debate.

Townsend, however, has already shown he’s capable of performing in the division. It would be a safe signing, but considering the lack of risk, it’s a no brainer.

Demarai Gray and Rachid Ghezzal lacked much end product under Claude Puel and Rodgers, meaning Townsend’s potential arrival would be particularly beneficial.

Check out what the Pl>ymaker FC squad got up to at the Football Blogging Awards in the video below…

Over recent terms, the 27-year-old had problems with consistency himself but that was put to bed in 2018/19, finding himself involved in 13 goals.

It’s that productivity in the final third that can end Leicester’s troubles when attacking down the flanks.

Considering some of the fees the Midlands club have paid over previous transfer windows, £14m would be a snip to bring Townsend to the King Power.

The Chalkboard: Aubameyang sale would solve Arsenal’s transfer budget nightmare

[ad_pod ]

The phrase “one step forward two steps back” gets tossed around a lot in football, but for Arsenal, one big risk in the transfer window could well have that phrase reversed. Selling one of their star men could see them kick on massively, taking one step backwards to go two steps forward.

The player in question is the goalscoring machine, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and there are so many reasons why the Gabonese international could be allowed to leave this summer.

“Auba” is being linked with a move away from the Emirates by The Times, who have reported that the soon-to-be 30-year-old striker is being offered wages of around £300,000 p/w by Chinese Super League clubs Guangzhou Evergrande and Shanghai SIPG. Should the transfer fee involved be as astronomical as these touted wages, Unai Emery may have no choice but to let his hitman go.

On the chalkboard

There are a lot of reasons why you may want to see Aubameyang stay put this season, Arsenal fans, but there’s quite a few reasons as to why he should leave too. The first of those is his age. This season he bagged 22 league goals at the age of 29, but by the start of next season he’ll be in his thirties, and with pace a huge part of his game, his biggest threat will soon dwindle.

Then you’ve got the fact that whilst the electric hitman did bag 22 top-flight goals last season, securing him the joint Golden Boot alongside Liverpool wingers Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, he also recorded the highest tally in the division for big chances missed with an incredible 23 (Premier League).

So, we’ve established that Aubameyang misses sitters and is getting on a bit, but in terms of Arsenal’s progression as a club, moving him on could help ten-fold.

Not because he’s not the quality they need, far from it, but instead because his transfer fee could bankroll their entire summer. The Daily Star have claimed the Gunners have just £50m to play with, and Auba can bring in more than that on his own.

If that isn’t enough reason to think the 29-year-old should have played his last game for the club, then we’ll give you one more – Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman won Arsenal’s player of the season award for his incredible performances this campaign, yet he often spent time on the bench as Emery accommodated his strike partner, so who knows how well the Frenchman would have fared with the limelight all to himself.

It might be tough for Arsenal fans to come to terms with, but if Emery can sign two or three players in problem areas with the Aubameyang money, get an ageing player out of the squad and give Lacazette the game time he deserves, they simply have to take it, don’t they?

Rangers fans excited as Joe Aribo edges closer to Ibrox

[ad_pod ]

Charlton Atheltic midfielder Joe Aribo is on the verge of joining Rangers, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper reported on Wednesday that the midfielder is set to tell Addicks boss Lee Bowyer he has decided to quit the club upon the expiration of his contract and is now “almost certainly” on his way to Ibrox.

Watch the best fails from the world of indoor football in the video below…

Aribo was a stand-out for Charlton last season, helping them gain promotion to the English Championship via the play-offs, scoring ten goals and assisting five more.

With Steven Gerrard’s team badly needing a player that can find the killer final ball in the opposition’s third, Aribo could fit the bill and give them that extra bit of creativity, vision and composure need to break down defences.

The Scottish Sun reckon he could now even join Rangers for their pre-season training camp in Portugal next week.

Ozan Kabak is a far more suitable signing for Manchester United than Harry Maguire

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Italian publication Milan News 24, Manchester United are ready to rival Serie A giants Milan for the signature of Stuttgart defender Ozan Kabak.

What’s the word?

The report claims United’s representatives are expected to meet with the centre-back’s entourage in order to make him an offer comparable to the one already put on the table by Milan.

Watch a Man Utd fan’s epic Ed Woodward rant in the video below…

German outlet Kicker further reported that along with the Red Devils, Premier League rivals West Ham are also in the running to sign the 19-year-old.

Culture fit

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are firmly in the race to sign Leicester and England powerhouse Harry Maguire, and there have been claims that the Foxes will demand around £90m to part ways with their star man.

Now, Maguire has proven himself to be an excellent centre-back in the Premier League and has delivered some very impressive performances. But paying what would be a world record fee for a defender for him? United have been riddled with constant issues of overpaying for players both in the transfer fee involved and the wages it takes to keep them there.

The pressure of a price tag can often be a huge burden – just look at how Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez have performed at Old Trafford. But in Kabak, United could snare a highly-rated prospect for far cheaper and arguably with a whole load of room for improvement.

Indeed, Stuttgart’s sporting director and former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger seems to think he’s a born leader, saying: “It’s incredible how worldy-wise he is for his age. It’s astonishing. I see him every day and am amazed at how he mature he is. He wants to know everything; he wants to learn German right away and understand everything. That’s the kind of attitude we need. He’s already a role model, despite his age.”

One of the biggest issues for United is the culture in the dressing room, where flamboyant characters and personalities have not proven to be willing to place everything on the line for the cause. In his 15 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, Kabak embraced the relegation dogfight his side were in and stepped up to the plate with three goals from centre-back.

So whilst Maguire might be the more glamorous name, Kabak’s presence both on and off the pitch could crucially make him the right fit at the right time for United this summer.

Arsenal Transfer Roundup: Carrasco deal close, Xhaka to stay, £48.99m needed for double deal

[ad_pod ]

Another day, more Arsenal transfer updates. The Gunners are looking to bring in several new names ahead of the next season, which are needed if they are to improve on last season’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League. Recently, Ryan Fraser, William Saliba and Jordan Veretout have all been linked.

Xhaka happy at Emirates

Today’s first bit of news is in regards to a player already at the Emirates. Granit Xhaka had previously been linked with a move to Inter Milan but, in an interview with Swiss outlet Blick, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach man has said he does not think he will be leaving Arsenal this summer.

Carrasco deal agreed

According to Gazzetta Dello Sporto journalist Nicolo Schira, Dalian Yifang’s Yannick Carrasco has agreed a deal with Arsenal, with the two clubs now just finalising details of the transfer. Carrasco moved to China last February and has scored 14 goals in 36 games in the Far East.

€55m needed for Sampdoria pair

The Gunners have been told they will need to pay €55m (£48.99m) for Sampdoria pair Joachim Andersen and Denis Praet once again according to Nicolo Schira. Arsenal had originally bid €48 (£42.79m) million for the duo, but now club president Massimo Ferrero is holding out for an even higher fee for his star players.
