Aston Villa: Anwar El Ghazi return a step in the right direction

Aston Villa potentially signing Anwar El Ghazi for £8million represents a fine bit of business on their part.

According to The Guardian, Aston Villa will complete the signing of El Ghazi from Ligue 1 side Lille after triggering the option to buy the winger following his successful loan last season. The deal will reportedly cost around £8million, as agreed when he was taken on loan last August, which is fairly good going when you consider some the prices bandied around these days.

Just about any prodigy who emerges from De Toekomstis is tipped to great things, but an Outside of the Boot report from 2015 clearly identifies El Ghazi as one of the brightest talents Ajax had produced in recent years, paying particular attention to his ability to run at players and create problems and his “spectacular dribbling technique” – which has become obvious over the course of the campaign, with El Ghazi averaging 1.2 dribbles per game (the third most in Villa’s promotion-winning squad).

It’s absolutely paramount that Dean Smith finds the right balance when signing players this summer and nourishing already established ones, on Villa’s Premier League return. We’ve already seen Fulham fall victim to an overzealous transfer policy, which saw them recruit twelve new faces last summer to little effect, and evidently, that perhaps isn’t the way to go for teams aiming to survive.

That being said, El Ghazi really is a step in the right direction. Clearly a talent for the reasons we’ve already mentioned, he’s established himself as a key player under Smith, scoring six goals for Villa last term, including the priceless first in the 2-1 Championship play-off final victory over Derby County.

Following the arrival of Jota from arch-rivals Birmingham City, preparation for the Premier League has clearly started nice and early for the Midlands giants.

Villa fans, how pleased are you at the idea of welcoming back El Ghazi? Do you think you’ve seen the best of him yet? Let us know in the comments below…

Good prospect: Aston Villa fans react to Andres Martin speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to Cordopolis, via Sports Witness, Aston Villa are interested in a summer deal for Cordoba teenager Andres Martin.

Indeed, the report has claimed that Villa sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has actually travelled to Cordoba to watch the player in action.

However, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano have also all been credited with an interest in the 19-year-old ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Martin found the back of the net on seven occasions in 32 appearances for his Spanish outfit during the 2018-19 season.

Cordoba will be a decent position when it comes to any potential negotiations, though, as the youngster is contracted to the club until the summer of 2022.

The Villa fans, who recently revealed their delight at the club’s capture of Anwar El Ghazi on a permanent deal, have been on social media offering their views on the speculation.

Tottenham Transfer Roundup: Andersen joins Lyon, Onomah interest, Eriksen update

[ad_pod ]

It took Tottenham 517 days after signing Lucas Moura to capture their next arrival. However, Jack Clarke has now been joined by another new face in North London. Today’s Spurs transfer roundup including the failed pursuit of a Danish defender, Championship interest in one of the club’s midfielders, and updates on a star playmaker.

Wednesday interested in Onomah

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Josh Onomah. The 22-year-old was on loan with the Owls last season, and it seems that the Yorkshire-based club would like him to return to Hillsborough. They have held discussions with Spurs in regards to the player.

Eriksen’s agent meets Real

Christian Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots is to meet with Real Madrid to discuss the potential signature of the Dane according to Spanish outlet Marca. Eriksen has already told Tottenham that he wishes to leave the club this summer.

Aston Villa move for Chelsea man could be a masterstroke by Dean Smith: Opinion

Aston Villa return to the Premier League this season hoping to put on a show and firmly cement their place back among English football’s elite.

Dean Smith did a grand job of leading the Villans back to the big time with a play-off final win over Derby County, and now, backed by rich owners and Premier League money, Smith will be hoping to bring in some quality to ensure his team stay up.

This weekend then has seen the club linked with a move for Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu, and here in the Tavern, we think this would be one of the shrewdest moves Villa could make this summer.

Ampadu has had his fair share of game time for the Blues and has impressed when given the chance, but despite being a regular in the Welsh squad, there has to be an element to consider where it might be time for Ampadu to get some regular first-team football as he looks to develop.

Villa will be looking for players who can slot in across various positions too as Smith looks to maximise the potential of signings he makes, and Ampadu fits right into that mould being comfortable both in the middle of the park and in defence.

Ampadu is highly thought of for a reason at Stamford Bridge, and while he will eventually become a star for Chelsea, a season with a club that holds the stature of Villa could be the perfect move all around.

The youngster is one of those players who is calm on the ball beyond his years, and with a season under his belt of regular football in the system Smith likes to employ, it could well set him up nicely to make a place in the Chelsea XI his own in the coming years.

Crystal Palace fans don’t want Nathaniel Clyne as Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacement

[ad_pod ]

Some Crystal Palace fans on Twitter don’t want Nathaniel Clyne to return to the club to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka if he is to leave this summer.

Manchester United are currently in negotiations to sign the 21-year-old full-back who is currently away at the Under 21 European Championships with England.

The Eagles are thought to be holding out for £50million for the player and a deal is thought to be close between the two sides.

As a result, many of the Selhurst Park faithful have been looking at the possible replacements at right-back and Clyne’s name has surfaced after they were linked with the Liverpool man just last month.

The 28-year-old spent 13 years at the club between 1999-2012 and made 137 appearances for the first team – scoring once and assisting seven times, before making the move to Southampton.

Since moving from the south coast he spent four years at Liverpool before spending a short spell on loan at Bournemouth until the end of last season.

But Palace fans do not seem at all pleased with the idea of him re-joining the team after seven years away.

Here are just some of the fans displaying their disappointment at the idea:

Alexis Sanchez shares Copa America preparations on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

He may not have had the most enjoyable of times at Old Trafford, but when Alexis Sanchez puts on the red of Chile, he turns into a different animal.

The Manchester United star has long been the star man of his country’s successes in recent years, and will once again be expected to lead the nation for this summer’s Copa America.

The Chilean took to

/ByjNEqJDUt-/” data-lasso->Instagram to post a picture of him in training in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the tournament will be head, and looks in fine shape ahead of the tournament.

The 30-year-old has endured a torrid time with injuries since joining United in January 2018, and has come under heavy criticism from Red Devils fans for his poor form.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Sanchez could be a target for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side, with the former Arsenal man seemingly on his way out of Manchester this summer.

However, a return to form with Chile, and a good showing in the Copa America, could be Sanchez’s last chance to potentially salvage his career in the Premier League, and if he can keep fully fit, then there could well be a way back for the forward.

Arsenal fans react as Edu confirmed as technical director

[ad_pod ]

After the departure of Arsene Wenger last summer, it was clear Arsenal needed to shake things up off the pitch as well.

The north London side had long been run by one authoritative figurehead and the Frenchman’s exit allowed for a much-needed revamp.

Reports in recent months had suggested that the club were looking to appoint a technical director and there were suggestions that names like Monchi and Marc Overmars were being lined up.

Now, the Gunners have confirmed that former general coordinator of Brazil, Edu, will take up the position and will  “oversee the work of first-team coaches, the academy and player scouting and recruitment”.

After hearing the confirmation, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the choice of appointment and many were seemingly excited for the future.

Gunners supporters felt that with Edu finally through the door, the rest of the summer transfer window could finally kick into gear in terms of the necessary incomings and outgoings.

Indeed, some fans urged the Brazilian to look to his native country and bring in some of the talent that shined at the Copa America, like Brazil’s Everton Soares.

Arsenal fans can’t understand Wilfried Zaha’s £100m valuation

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal will have to pay £100m if they want to sign Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha this summer, according to The Daily Mail.

Zaha is reportedly one of Unai Emery’s big summer transfer targets, but a deal now seems a fair distance away after this latest report.

The paper say that Palace are not keen on selling both Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the same transfer window and will now protect against his departure by placing a nine-figure valuation on his shoulders.

Check out the video below to find out why Arsenal fans aren’t celebrating Spurs’ UCL final defeat as much as they’d like…

With the Gunners’ spending power said to be limited this summer, it means a deal looks all but dead for the 26-year-old.

Zaha scored ten goals and assisted ten more in the Premier League last season, proving to be an effective attacking threat and someone who might be able to make the step up to a top six side.

At the reported £100m though, his price is steep and many Arsenal fans simply don’t want to see the club pay it.
