Manchester United legend Gary Neville hits back at his critics on Twitter

[ad_pod ]Everything Gary Neville does nowadays comes under scrutiny. Now more than ever the former full-back is under the microscope of the public as his post-retirement ventures have seen him become one of the most famous pundits and football club owners in the country. It must’ve been a tough week for the former England international. He’s seen his beloved Manchester United pick up only one point from a possible six and he’s had to sit by as the fanbase he cares so deeply about hit a new low by racially abusing Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Luckily the Sky Sports pundit has been able to bookend this week by watching one of the greatest cricket matches of all time, and after the conclusion of the third Ashes test he took to Twitter to hit back at some of his critics.

Neville stated that Ben Stokes’ heroics provided a great finish to an otherwise hellish day as he’s been unfairly accused of multiple wrongdoings.

Fortunately, this hasn’t gotten to the pundit too much as the Manchester United legend sarcastically stated that it had been the best week of his life.

Realistically, it’s time for fans to get off of Gary Neville’s back. He may be a great pundit, and one of the highest-profile football club owners in the country, but he’s not a divine entity who can solve these issues, nor is he the root cause of any of these problems.

Bundesliga Transfer Roundup: Philipp news, BVB eye Wilson, Frankfurt interested in Ribery

[ad_pod ]

Unlike the Premier League, the Bundesliga has over a month of the transfer window left before it closes on September 2nd, meaning they can afford to be slightly more patient as they look to conclude their business. However, for the good of their preparations, they would be better off wrapping everything up sooner rather than later. Today’s Bundesliga transfer roundup features comments from Maximilian Philipp’s agent, Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Harry Wilson and Eintracht Frankfurt’s eyes on Frank Ribery.

Philipp’s agent denies Dynamo interest

Report: Maximilian Philipp’s agent Gordon Stiplich has told Russian outlet Sport24 that he knows nothing of the reports linking his client to Dynamo Moscow. He said, “There is interest from German, Italian, Spanish and English clubs. Very soon the decision will be made, a lot of negotiations are underway, but for the first time I hear about Dynamo.”

Verdict: Philipp joined Borussia Dortmund in 2017 surrounded by plenty of optimism, with many tipping him to be a future star. He impressed at Freiburg in the 2.Bundesliga, before performing well in his first campaign in Germany’s top flight in 2016/17, which was enough to convince BVB to sign him. The 25-year-old’s first season was respectable, as he scored nine goals in the league, but last year he was reduced to a spot as a benchwarmer for the most part. He started just nine Bundesliga games for Die Schwarzgelben, and managed only one goal, with Paco Alcacer and Mario Götze preferred in the striker/false nine role. It seems unlikely that much will change this coming term, which is why a move would make sense for all involved. With all due respect to Dynamo Moscow, the former Germany U21 international can do better than the Russian league at this point in his career, especially considering the interest that Stiplich mentioned.

How likely is the deal? 5/10

BVB want Wilson

Report: According to Football Insider, Borussia Dortmund have made an approach for Liverpool’s Harry Wilson. Lucien Favre and co are eager to test the Reds’ resolve and have made it clear that they would like to sign the Wales international permanently.

Verdict: Wilson has received a lot of attention this summer, and deservedly so. The 22-year-old scored 16 goals in all competitions whilst on loan at Derby County last season as the Rams came agonisingly close to promotion to the Premier League. He is an up-and-coming talent, of that there is no doubt, but do BVB need him? They have already brought in two fresh attacking talents in Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, who play in similar positions and are further along in their development. As such, it is hard to see the winger nailing down a starting spot should he move to the Ruhr, which would be a waste of his ability. On the other hand, one could have said the same of Jadon Sancho when he joined in 2017, and he has since set the Bundesliga alight.

How likely is the deal? 5/10

Frankfurt make Ribery approach

Report: Bild is reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt have approached Franck Ribery’s agent to see whether the former Bayern Munich man would be interested in a performance-based one-year contract with the club. The Europa League semi-finalists have stated that they are “not engaging in communications” for the former France international.

Verdict: It has so far been a difficult summer for Frankfurt. They have already lost two of their main stars from last season in Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller, and speculation continues to surround the future of Ante Rebic as well. Therefore, some new talent wouldn’t go amiss, and Ribery is an interesting proposition. His best years may be behind him, but he still managed to chip in with some important goals to help Bayern win their seventh Bundesliga title in a row last campaign. Now a free agent, Eintracht would not need to pay a transfer fee, but his wages would still be an issue. It would also be hard to envisage him adapting well to Adi Hutter’s counter-attacking style at his current age of 36. As a squad player who could be introduced when a game needs to be seen out, he would be more than useful, though.

How likely is the deal? 2/10

Rangers are still looking to shift Jason Holt this summer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Jason Holt could yet leave Rangers this summer amid links to Queens Park Rangers, according to The Scottish Sun.

What’s the story?

Despite inching towards the Scottish, and more importantly in this case, the English transfer deadlines, Holt could still leave the Gers as Steven Gerrard looks to trim his squad.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town and appears to have no future at the club, per the report.

The midfielder has been frozen out this summer as Gerrard has brought more midfield options to the club in the shape of Joe Aribo and Steve Davis, as well as welcoming Greg Docherty back into the first-team fold.

Having been a favourite under Mark Warburton at Ibrox, it looks like the former Hearts man has played his last game for the club – he has not featured once under Gerrard, even in pre-season.

Time to go

Thanks to the increased competition for places in the Rangers midfield from this time last year, Holt’s already feint chances of a Gers recall have been totally extinguished.

On top of Aribo, Davis and Docherty, Glen Kamara’s arrival has meant that area of the pitch is jam-packed with talent. Holt’s chances of displacing those in front of him are null, so a move to get some more time on the pitch makes perfect sense for him.

And he would have a couple of avenues to explore if he does finally get a move. Barton admitted his desire to keep a hold of his loan star to The Blackpool Gazette back in April.

Also, QPR could be an option for Holt, say The Scottish Sun, allowing him to rejoin his old manager Warburton and still play at a high level.

It would also make sense for the club to move him on too. While a transfer fee would be appreciated, it might be beneficial to just free Holt and get him off the books. He’s not going to get a look-in this season and his salary could be reinvested into the wage pool to tie down more important players to more lucrative deals.

A move away would suit all parties, but it might have to happen quickly with the English window slamming shut next Thursday.

Tottenham fans react to update on Victor Wanyama’s future

[ad_pod ]

Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed by Football Insider that Victor Wanyama has instructed his agent to find him a new club, before the transfer window shuts for European clubs on the 2nd of September.

The 28-year-old endured an injury ravaged 2018/19 campaign at the club, missing a total of 21 games due to issues with his knee.

Wanyama has since returned to fitness, but has slipped down Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield pecking order following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

The Kenya international wasn’t even in the squad for the last game against Manchester City, with Pochettino instead opting to include 18-year-old Oliver Skipp – the teenager came off the bench at the Etihad Stadium.

Wanyama was a key man in his first season at the club alongside Mousa Dembele in midfield, although his Spurs career looks to be coming to an end due to injuries and the sheer amount of options ahead of him.

With just two years remaining on his contract, Wanyama’s desire to leave north London, combined with his status in the squad, will surely see him out the door this summer, and here’s how Spurs fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

Aston Villa’s first Premier League starting XI predicted as they face Tottenham

[ad_pod ]

The Premier League season finally gets underway this weekend.

Aston Villa are back in the big time too after a three-year absence following relegation in 2016.

Dean Smith’s men come into the latest campaign with an almost entirely new squad of players after 12 arrivals walked through the door at Villa Park this summer for a total amount in excess of £130m.

How many of those players feature on Saturday remains to be seen but we’ve had a go at predicting who may well be in the starting XI against Tottenham at 5.30pm.

With so many new faces arriving in the claret and blue this summer, Villa boss Smith has plenty to think about as they kickstart their season with a tough test against the Champions League runners-up.

There could be as many as seven debutants whilst a familiar trio is likely to be deployed in the heart of the pitch and there should be a start for one of their most popular loan stars from last season.

[ad_pod ]

Tom Heaton should be a certainty to start in goal as he bares the most experience in England’s top-flight of any of their current goalkeepers with 96 Premier League appearances to his name. In front of him could be as many as three new defenders.

Tyrone Mings is a familiar face and he has struck up a nice partnership with Bjorn Engels during pre-season. At right-back, Smith may favour the youthful Frederic Guilbert over Ahmed Elmohamady with both the new signings playing in France’s top tier last season.

Matt Targett joined in a £15m move early in the summer so that left-back spot could be his for the foreseeable future.

Smith added some big names in midfield but we’re not expecting any of them to make their debuts from the start on Saturday.

Douglas Luiz joined from Manchester City but wasn’t able to link up with his new teammates until last week due to delays over his work permit and fellow arrival Marvelous Nakamba has only had one game to settle in, though he could be on the bench.

That means Conor Hourihane is likely to deputise in holding midfield as he did ever so astutely last season and during this pre-season and he will surely be joined by the popular duo of John McGinn and captain Jack Grealish.

In attack, club-record signing Wesley Moraes is a shoo-in to make his debut considering the fee paid and the other options. Meanwhile, Anwar El Ghazi, scorer in the playoff final, has a niggle which could see Trezeguet start on the left wing with Jota occupying the other side.

Everton came very close to completing summer deal for Fikayo Tomori

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Everton were on the verge of signing Fikayo Tomori before Chelsea pulled out of the deal late on, Football Insider has revealed.

What’s the word?

The Toffees last season enjoyed the luxury of having Kurt Zouma on loan from Chelsea, and had hoped to replace him with another Blues centre-back this summer, and did agree on a loan move.

Tomori was willing to make the switch to Goodison Park before Arsenal’s approach for David Luiz scuppered the deal, with the London club unwilling to allow too many defenders to leave Stamford Bridge.

Everton had been looking to add another defender to their ranks for much of the summer, with Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo also on the radar, but it was the Chelsea man who seemed to be in pole position to join.

A failure to finalise the switch means the club is left with just three senior centre-backs to choose from, and whilst Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have started the season well, Marco Silva may well be taking a risk by solely relying on the relatively inexperienced Mason Holgate as a back-up option.

Lack of planning

Although it was an unexpected blow to miss out on the 21-year-old so late on, the Toffees had all summer to prepare transfer targets and make their move for them, so it is a sign of poor organisation that they were unable to complete a deal for a defender before the deadline.

Watch Everton Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Tomori gained many plaudits for his performances on loan at Derby last season and the Everton hierarchy would have been well aware of him heading into pre-season, so could have arranged a deal with Chelsea early in the summer.

They were able to complete seven deals in total and it is unforgivable that they have lost out on a player who could have proved very useful because of their delayed action.

The club has to learn from this incident moving forward and ensure Silva is able to strengthen in all the areas he wants to, otherwise they could suffer on the pitch.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba makes another stand against racism on Instagram

It’s quite an image to see these two great world champions standing side by side. The footballer was memorably triumphant with France in the last World Cup, while the boxer has overcome some of the biggest names in the sport to hold his title for four years.

The Manchester United man once again made a stand against racism as he captioned the picture: “Keep fighting till this day …till this day! @bronzebomber same energy same vision same fight.”

This is in reference to Wilder’s famous outburst ahead of his clash with Tyson Fury last year, as he took a stand against racism in his pre-fight press conference.

The Bronze Bomber and Pogba are two of the most influential black sportsmen in the world, and their recent statements against discrimination will hopefully take a big step towards ending the horrific issues that plague our favourite sports.

Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira shares a brilliant Instagram snap with Luis Suarez

[ad_pod ]

Lucas Torreira has successfully returned back to Arsenal after his extended holiday and has already played his first minutes before the official start of the new 2019/20 Premier League season.

The Uruguayan midfielder took to the Camp Nou pitch to face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy clash that saw the Catalans clinch a narrow 2-1 victory over the Gunners.

Still, it was a really close game and Arsenal were even in front come the end of the first half. Unfortunately, the Blaugrana managed to claw back into the game and take the trophy home for their cabinets.

[ad_pod ]

Torreira took to

/B0x7z6OB1nV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram on Monday after the clash and posted a brilliant snap with Luis Suarez, his rival on the pitch but also his Uruguayan compatriot and close friend.

He even captioned it as “the happiness of a child who enjoys the time with his idol”, tagging Suarez in the process.

Of course, Barcelona’s superstar responded in a similar manner, thanking his friend for the talk they’ve shared at Camp Nou.

The duo also participated in this year’s iteration of the Copa America with their nation. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by the eventual finalists Peru.

Torreira played a total of four games throughout the competition but unfortunately without any goals or assists to his name.
