Everton’s Cenk Tosun has a new opportunity following transfer development

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Cenk Tosun will be staying at Everton for the foreseeable future, stating he wishes to stay at Goodison Park after Eintracht Frankfurt failed to make an offer, according to online outlet Turkish-Football.

What’s the word, then?

There has been much speculation about the future of the striker since the arrival of Moise Kean this summer, with rumoured destinations such as Eintracht Frankfurt and Besiktas reportedly on the cards.

However, there hasn’t been a firm offer from Frankfurt and with time running out in the transfer window it looks unlikely at this stage that a deal will be completed.

As a result, despite failing to make an appearance in Everton’s opening three games he could be drafted back into the first-team squad, particularly as Everton have scored just one goal in those matches.

Furthermore, he still has three years remaining on his current deal, so he may have to knuckle down and do his best to impress for his current club, as there is no guarantee of an exit on the horizon.

As the most experienced striker in Everton’s ranks he will offer Marco Silva a different option, and could still have a role to play this season despite the rumours that his departure was likely.

Why this could be great news for Everton

As highlighted, Everton have been underwhelming in front of goal this season, and much of that has been due to the playing style and lack of experience of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whilst Moise Kean is still adjusting from his move from Serie A.

Tosun offers variety to those two. When starting he would provide a focal point for his teammates and would be able to hold the ball up and bring Everton’s creative midfielders into play, with players such as Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson struggling to make an impact so far this season – with no goals and no assists between them.

As well as that, Tosun would be an ideal impact sub for Marco Silva to look to. What he lacks in pace compared to Calvert-Lewin and Kean he makes up for in strength and his intelligence, often picking out teammates with headers and knock-downs, which could prove valuable when Everton are behind and chasing games.

With Rafinha’s loan, Barcelona ended their business in the summer transfer window, which is now officially behind us.

But not everyone was happy with the 26-year-old Brazilian parting ways with the club, even though he will be only leaving on loan for one season.

Many fans jumped to social media and Twitter to share their disappointment with the club’s decision to let go of a player they thought was among their best performers in recent games.

They also seem to think Rafinha should’ve stayed and that the 26-year-old should have been given a chance this year.

Here’s what the fans had to say about the confirmed loan exit…

Liverpool fans want Ballon d’Or next for van Dijk after he wins UEFA award

[ad_pod ]

Several Liverpool fans are suggesting Virgil van Dijk should win the Ballon d’Or after he received the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award on Thursday night.

The centre-back featured in every European fixture for his side last season as he helped guide the team to Liverpool’s sixth Champions League win, while marshalling a defence that kept the most Premier League clean sheets last campaign.

Van Dijk faced competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who between them have won the award five times since its inception in the 2010/11 season.

It is the first time a player based in England has won the award, and the Dutchman’s success may not end there, as many consider him a credible candidate to win the Ballon d’Or.

In order to do so he will have to maintain his high level of performance until the end of 2019, when voting takes place, but many Liverpool fans already think he is a deserving candidate, judging by their reactions on Twitter.

West Ham’s Jack Wilshere must take big opportunity he has in next few weeks

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Jack Wilshere has had a completely stop-start West Ham United career to date, but he may now just have the perfect opportunity to repay the faith both the club and manager Manuel Pellegrini have shown in him over the next few weeks.

Football London reported at the weekend that having missed the clash against Manchester United through injury, Manuel Lanzini will be out for up to a month with bone bruising on his foot.

The Argentina international had started all of the east London outfit’s five Premier League matches prior to that, and he was joined by Wilshere in the starting XI in the opening two of those against Manchester City and Brighton.

However, the former Arsenal man then missed out on the squad altogether for the following encounters with Watford and Norwich City, with Pellegrini suggesting he had been rested for the former – he played 82 minutes in the cup tie against Newport County just a few days later.

The 27-year-old, who made his return to the pitch in the top flight as a substitute against Manchester United on Sunday, may well be in contention to start the Carabao Cup clash with Oxford United on Wednesday, and he needs to perform well.

As things stand, it looks as though he will be battling summer addition Pablo Fornals for a spot in the starting XI with Mark Noble and Declan Rice appearing to once again be favoured picks for their Chilean manager.

There is no doubt given his injury issues in the past that the Irons took a punt on bringing Wilshere to the London Stadium, even though Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos had quickly identified him as a target in 2018.

Per West Ham’s official website, the latter said on completing the signature: “Manuel and I identified him as a target as soon as we joined the club and we are delighted to have succeeded in securing Jack’s signature above a number of other teams.

“On the biggest stage, he has shown that he has game-changing abilities, as well as having the creativity and intelligence to make a real difference to our squad.”

The fact he only played eight Premier League games last term due to injury means we haven’t really seen that quality yet, with one goal and one assist all he has to show for his total of 12 outings in all competitions.

The midfielder, who earns £100,000-a-week according to Spotrac, now has the chance to step up and prove that he can have a big season at West Ham and be game-changing, and he must not waste it.

Tottenham star Christian Eriksen slammed by talkSPORT pundit

[ad_pod ]A bad day at the office for a certain Danish playmaker. If you were to categorise Christian Eriksen’s performance against Olympiakos on Wednesday night, it would fit comfortably in the ‘absolutely abysmal’ section. In what was a generally very disappointing night for Spurs, who saw their comfortable two-goal lead destroyed in a matter of 45 minutes, the Danish playmaker stood out as one of the central figures in the capitulation.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It’s been estimated that Eriksen lost the ball a total of 22 times – more than any other player on the pitch – and boasted a woeful pass success rate of just 78.3%, which is hardly the most inspiring statistic from someone who usually shows such supreme technical ability.

TalkSPORT’s Martin Lipton has unleashed on Eriksen’s Champions League outing…

A fan-based inquest will now likely be held over whether his failure to move away from north London in the summer, despite announcing his intention to leave to seek new challenges, is related to his declining performances.

The 27-year-old has averaged a rating of 6.83 in the Premier League so far this term – the tenth lowest at the club.

Aston Villa’s youth vision under Christian Purslow set in motion

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Aston Villa’s new academy chief Mark Harrison has claimed it was the shared vision of the owners and management staff that helped convince him to make a switch across the Midlands.

What’s he said?

Harrison had been in charge of West Brom’s academy for the past 13 years, helping them to become established as one of the best in the country.

This summer one of their latest hot prospects, Louie Barry, earned a move to La Liga giants Barcelona whilst Rekeem Harper, Sam Field and Jonathan Leko are all highly-thought of at the club earning minutes in recent seasons.

Villa themselves have a promising youth setup, but in recent times they have seen locally-born players thrive elsewhere after winning the NextGen tournament, which is why they have appointed Harrison as their new academy manager.

He said:

“I was really impressed with how they sold the club to me. I was enthused from the first time I met them.

“What really drew me here was the potential. You can see with the owners and the senior management the vision they have. I got a real good feel for how they want to build not only the club but the academy.

“I was part of a vision, certainly early on at West Brom when Dan Ashworth was technical director.”

Purslow promise soon to be a reality?

Villa CEO Christian Purslow has made it clear in the past on the club’s desire to build a young an exciting team, stating that they need a ‘clear pathway right through the academy to the first-team with outstanding recruitment and development.’

The arrival of Harrison certainly is the first step in putting that plan into motion, although, it may be a while until we see it potentially bearing fruit.

The former Baggies academy man was there for 13 years, and it is only over a recent period of time that his work has started to see an effect with the aforementioned crop of youth players.

His work has clearly been appreciated by Purslow if he’s seeing him as one of the main men to lead his Villa vision.

Wolves fans drool over Joao Moutinho on his birthday

[ad_pod ]

Joao Moutinho turned 33 on Sunday, and as expected, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ official Twitter account was on hand with a birthday message.

The midfielder, who joined Wolves from Monaco in the summer of 2018, has made 54 appearances for his English club in all competitions.

The Portugal international will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, though, and there are no signs of a fresh contract for the moment.

In response to Wolves’ official post, a number of the fans called for their club to sort out an extension for Moutinho as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, others simply took the chance to lavish praise on the experienced professional – some calling him the best player to ever play for the club.

Real Madrid’s future looks set with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in the team

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

And just like that, Real Madrid are seemingly out of their early crisis and heading towards the top.

In fact, at this particular point in time, Los Blancos are finally first in the La Liga table, leaving the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid behind them in the dust.

Of course, these are still early days and the table is bound to go through various changes before the end of the campaign. But it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Zinedine Zidane is finally getting his whole squad on the same page.

The latest clash with Osasuna, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Galacticos, proved as much.

But it proved one other thing as well – the future looks bright and a touvh Brazilian.

Both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo found their names on the scoresheet on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu as the Whites cruised to a rather comfortable and impressive victory over Osasuna.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Seeing how both players are still very young, Vinicius being 19 and Rodrygo 18 years of age respectively, this was definitely a great sign for all Madridistas.

Two of their young talents stepped up in the absence of the more experienced veterans who were being rested, with the likes of Gareth Bale out of the squad and Karim Benzema on the bench, and completely stole the show in front of the home crowd.

Needless to say, that’s exactly what every manager wants to see.

Of course, it has to be noted, however, that this was indeed Rodrygo’s debut in the 2019/20 La Liga campaign and he only got to play for 20 minutes, coming off the bench in the 70th minute.

Vinicius, on the other hand, has been struggling to regain his best form ever since his injury last season. Since then, he’s been in and out of the team and delivering on a very inconsistent basis.

Both players will, therefore, need some time to get back into the groove and find their footing but there’s still no escaping the feeling that their potential, should it be reached here at the Spanish capital, is enormous.

Zidane has two extraordinary talents in his squad and even though they may not be among the best at this very moment, the early signs are pointing towards that happening in the not so distant future.

And that is a beautiful thing for Real Madrid and the revolution the media has been calling for throughout the whole summer.

Rangers’ Glen Kamara stuns fans with international performance

Loads of fans have been praising Rangers ace Glen Kamara after he dropped a midfield master-class for Finland on Thursday evening.

The Eagle Owls have made a fantastic start to Euro 2020 qualification, winning four of five, and their latest victory came courtesy of a Teemu Pukki penalty, beating Greece 1-0.

It wasn’t everyone’s new favourite fantasy football bandwagon that really impressed spectators though, as Kamara, who won the decisive penalty, was dominant in the middle of the park.

The Gers ace, signed in January, started in central midfield in a 4-4-2. He completed five dribbles, as well as the effort that led to the spot-kick, per SofaScore.

He also made two tackles and two interceptions, winning the ball back seven times all together, and fans have been heaping praise on Steven Gerrard’s midfield maestro.

The Liverpool legend has quite the selection to choose from in the centre of the park, but if the reactions down below are anything to go by, Kamara may have just moved up to the top of the pecking order…
