Spurs fans react to Ryan Fraser latest

Tottenham Hotspur’s reported pursuit of soon-to-be free agent Ryan Fraser has moved up a gear this week after reports claimed the AFC Bournemouth winger has his sights set on a switch to north London.

The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs have become ‘serious contenders’ to land the 26-year-old following the expiry of his contract on June 30 and the winger is said to be interested in the move.

It’s been widely stated that Jose Mourinho will have to work with a limited budget this summer which will restrict him to free transfers and swap deals barring any major sales.

And that is why Fraser is of some appeal to the Portuguese boss.

Glasgow Rangers: Fans rage at news on Scottish Cup

Glasgow Rangers were unlikely happy when the Scottish football season was brought to an end last month.

It had been decided, of course, that the top four leagues in the country could not be continued as it was no longer safe to do so, with the Gers’ fierce rivals Celtic winning the title and Hearts being relegated to the second tier. There has been plenty of other talking points in Scottish football around that decision, such as James Anderson’s rumoured investment and the Ibrox outfit accusing the SPFL of corruption, but the decision to end the campaign stands.

The Scottish Cup, though, is still open, and SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell has explained the situation in regards to the tournament. In an interview with Sky Sports, he said they intend to play the semi-finals and the final of the tournament in front of fans this calendar year, although that may not be possible if social distancing regulations remain in place.

This appears to have outraged the Gers supporters – one even called it a “total farce”. They have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Spurs can finally replace Eriksen with "gifted" £10m transfer target

Football.London reporter Alasdair Gold has dropped a major transfer claim this week as Tottenham Hotspur gear up for a busy summer of activity.

What’s the word?

According to the Spurs journalist, the north London outfit have Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell on their radar following the Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League.

It’s also believed that Jose Mourinho could test the water with the Championship newcomers with young right-back Max Aarons also a player that the Portuguese manager admirers.

What sort of fee the English talent would command very much remains to be seen – Transfermarkt value Cantwell at £18m whilst the Daily Star have mooted £10m amid interest from Sheffield United.

Eriksen successor

Spurs have plenty of positions that are in need of revamping but Mourinho still hasn’t found a true number ten akin to Christian Eriksen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He’s often gone to Giovani Lo Celso, who seemingly is better suited to a box-to-box role, and Dele Alli, who has been in and out of the side since the 57-year-old’s appointment in November.

Cantwell can be the man to fill that void, especially as he’s been dubbed the next Alli.

And it’s easy to see why.

Per WhoScored, the 22-year-old has provided six goals and two assists whilst averaging 1.3 dribbles, 1.1 shots and 0.9 key passes per game for a side rock-bottom in the PL. Imagine what he could do with the likes of Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane around him.

In a similar vein to Spurs’ Englishman, Cantwell is often the man to provide late bursts into the box – another trait that was akin to Eriksen, who bagged ten goals in his final full season in north London.

The promising attacking midfielder has regularly received raving reviews, ranging from being the “most gifted” in Norwich’s system to having “god-given” abilities.

At just £10m, it presents extremely low-risk, so Daniel Levy would be foolish not to make the most of another’s misfortune here. Cantwell would be a most welcome addition in north London.

Man Utd fans hail Harry Maguire’s performances this season

After arriving from Leicester for a world-record fee for a defender last summer, big things were no doubt expected of Harry Maguire at Manchester United.

The England international has become a permanent fixture in the United back-line since his arrival, playing 41 games across all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

And after a stats graphic emerged on Twitter, United fans flooded the replies section to share their thoughts on how impressive Maguire has been for the club.

One United fan even suggested that the club had finally replaced Nemanja Vidic.

With United enduring an up-and-down season that has left them outside of the top four in the Premier League at the moment, it’s perhaps understandable if people have some doubts over Maguire’s displays – after all, the team as a whole have been struggling.

But these stats show how the centre-back has actually enjoyed a rather fine debut campaign at Old Trafford, and United will be hoping that he can kick on for them over these coming years.

The early signs are very promising indeed.

Portsmouth: Christian Burgess suffers debut defeat for new club

Former Portsmouth defender Christian Burgess has suffered defeat in his first game for new club Union Saint-Gilloise.

Prior to Pompey’s play-off defeat to Oxford United, central defender Burgess had already agreed a move to Belgium side Union SG, seeing his five-year spell at Fratton Park come to an end.

The 28-year-old made 32 appearances for Kenny Jackett’s side during the 2019/20 campaign, ending it with League One play-off semi-final heartbreak against Oxford. Despite that disappointment, Burgess won the Player of the Year award at the club prior to his exit.

Featuring in his first game for his new club, Burgess started the pre-season friendly with Crossing Schaerbeek on the substitutes’ bench before coming on later in the match, which his team lost 1-0 as they began pre-season with defeat.

They will seek promotion from the Belgian second tier in the 2020/21 season, having been in fourth position when the 2019/20 campaign was brought to a premature end.

Burgess is not the only English person at the club, which is owned by Brighton chairman Tony Bloom.

Burgess is straight back in to football after finishing up with Portsmouth and he faces a slightly similar challenge in Belgium.

His absence from Pompey will be hard hitting, especially if Kenny Jackett can’t find a decent replacement for a man whose individual award for the 2019/20 season illustrates how important he was at Fratton Park.

Do you think Portsmouth will miss Burgess? Let us know in the comments section below…

Manchester United: Red Devils missed out on RB Leizpig striker Timo Werner because of Paul Pogba

According to The Athletic, Manchester United missed out on RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner because of Paul Pogba.

After an initial meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this year, Werner’s agent held talks with United and Chelsea when Liverpool pulled out of the race to sign the forward.

However, the Red Devils told Leipzig they would only be able to meet his £54m release clause if they managed to offload Pogba in the summer.

Chelsea have now made their move and have now agreed a deal in principle with Die Roten Bullen (Sky Sports).

As it stands, it seems Solskjaer will have to sell Pogba if he wants to splash the cash in the transfer market.

European giants Juventus and Real Madrid have been linked to the Frenchman in recent months but the club have been unable to find a suitor willing to meet their £150m valuation so far.

Although the board had been expected to sell the 27-year-old to fund moves for Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham, it is likely he will stay at Old Trafford for another season.

It is fair to say Werner would have been a huge upgrade on the attacking options available to Solskjaer at the moment.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has bagged 25 goals in 29 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, creating 7 assists and taking 3.8 shots per game.

In comparison, Anthony Martial has only managed 11 goals in 23 games in the Premier League at the time of writing, providing 3 assists and attempting 2.6 shots on average.

Furthermore, the German international has received a higher WhoScored rating than his French counterpart, as he has earned a statistical rating of 7.63 at the time of writing.

Sadly, it seems Ed Woodward has been usurped by Roman Abramovich, and fans will have to wait and see if the club will make any signings in the summer.

United fans, do you think the board will regret missing out on Timo Werner? Let us know down below!

Everton: Fans react to transfer link for Adrien Rabiot as he wants to leave Juventus

Plenty of Everton fans have been reacting to the latest transfer link to Adrien Rabiot as Spanish outlet Sport have reported that he has been pressing in recent days to force his departure from Juventus and it is clear that his destiny is none other than the Merseyside club, now headed by  Carlo Ancelotti .

One EFC supporter in particular cited ‘Ancelotti’s pulling power’ on Twitter, and this is highlighted by the number of quality players he has been able to attract to the various big clubs he has managed.

As per the publication, Rabiot was admired by Barcelona when he was at PSG, so he must have shown some quality at least whilst he was in France to be involved with household European giants.

However, he has perhaps not adapted to Serie A or to the methods of Maurizio Sarri , who has apparently not trusted him and has spent much of the season on the bench as a substitute and without any role in the team.

Indeed, the 25-year old has only lasted 90 minutes in eight out of the 17 games he’s featured in Italy’s top division so far in the 2019/2020 campaign, according to Transfermarkt.

Another Toffee described the French international as ‘Schneiderlin 2.0’, who was arguably another central midfield player who has been used relatively sparingly during his time at Goodison Park, as per the website.

These Blues reacted to the link, with some rather mixed responses:
