Tottenham target Victor Osimhen is unlikely to move to Spurs in the future, according to the player’s agent. 

Osimhen has attracted attention from a number of European giants, including Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, and the Lilywhites were rumoured to have launched a bid for the 21-year-old.

Jose Mourinho has previously made it clear that he wants to sign a back-up for the club’s leading goalscorer Harry Kane who will also be able to provide the England international with some healthy competition.

However, Osimhen’s agent Ariyo Igbayilola told The Cable that the 21-year-old will only join the north London club if Kane leaves in return. The representative revealed: “We told Mourinho that if he wants Victor, will Harry Kane be leaving? If Harry Kane is still play for Tottenham will Victor play? Because he will always be benched for him.

“Kane is their number one striker and he is the captain of England, all these will always work for him in the club but at Victor’s detriment. He needs a club where he will always play full game week in, week out. Not to be kept on the bench.”

While this will no doubt be a bitter blow for Mourinho, it is easy to see where Igbayilola is coming from.

Indeed, Kane is unquestionably the number one striker at the club, which has often been to the board’s detriment in the transfer market as it is difficult to convince forwards to come and act as the second choice.

After arriving at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy from RSC Charleroi for £10.8m, Osimhen has made an electric start to his Ligue 1 career, scoring 13 goals in his first season for the Mastiffs. He also scored against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in the Champions League (WhoScored).

Moreover, he will surely be looking to add to his tally of eight caps for Nigeria, which could be in threat if he isn’t playing regularly in a domestic league. As it stands, it is hard to imagine the 21-year-old would be comfortable moving to north London knowing he would be below Kane in the pecking order.

Just as it the case for many of the European giants this summer, Juventus are undergoing a huge change, both in terms of personnel and overall style of play. The former Chelsea gaffer Maurizio Sarri has been sacked and in his place came Andrea Pirlo, who will now be looking to give the team his own outlook.

According to the transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio who reported the news for Sky Sports Italy, the Bianconeri are looking for potential partners for Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala in the forward line. One of the new players who popped up on their radar is actually Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Of course, this is not exactly the first time we hear the Frenchman’s name in this context as he was already linked with a potential move away from the Emirates and the Premier League earlier in the window.

Pirlo will need someone new and fresh in attack, especially if he ends up losing one of the two aforementioned stars. The financial situation in Turin is not great, partly because of the recent outbreak of the pandemic and partly because of their astronomical wage bill. For that reason, they are bracing for big changes in the immediate future and Lacazette might have a role to play.

But with not a lot of money to spend and Mikel Arteta still being fond of his forward, it will be interesting to see how the Italians go about completing this transfer.

Verdict

Needless to say, losing Lacazette would indeed be a big blow for the London outfit. Arteta is slowly but surely moulding this Arsenal team into proper contenders and fierce rivals and the Frenchman is surely a big part of that process.

But seeing how Juventus don’t have that much money to spend and the Gunners are not necessarily in a hurry to sell, maybe they end up keeping their striker after all.

According to Express, Arsenal have started the talks with Kia Joorabchian, Philippe Coutinho’s agent, in hopes of potentially sealing that deal in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Barcelona man is now once again on the market after spending a season on loan at Bayern Munich.

Of course, he will first aim to finish the Champions League campaign with the Bavarian giants and will then start thinking about a potential transfer away from the Catalans.

However, there are other teams also willing to sink their teeth into this deal and the Gunners just might face stern competition from the Premier League as the likes of Tottenham Hotspur were also previously linked, albeit to the major dissatisfaction of their fans.

Express also explain that Arsenal are not exactly sitting on heaps of money and Barcelona currently value their flopped playmaker at around £73m, which would, as it seems, be out of reach for the London team. But, in that case, Arsenal could potentially offer some of their own players in an attempt to lower the asking price.

Matteo Guendouzi, for instance, is a name that often pops out in those conversations. Mundo Deportivo, however, claim the Catalans are not interested in anything like that, preferring a loan with a big fee if a permanent transfer can’t be negotiated.

One positive for Arsenal would be the fact Joorabchian mentioned Coutinho is open to a return to the Premier League, as per Express’ report, and this could indeed throw a lifeline to the Gunners.

Verdict

Even though he’s had a couple of rough spells ever since his big-money transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona, Coutinho is still quite an impactful player on his day. Landing him could seriously boost Mikel Arteta’s squad.

However, as is the case with most big-name players on today’s market, the Brazilian would come with a hefty price tag above his head. But the report mentions the Catalans would be open for a loan deal as well and maybe this is an avenue the Gunners could potentially explore.

Arteta has slowly but surely been improving the team and maybe they already have what it takes to attract Coutinho back to the Premier League.

Sunderland have joined Oxford United with interest in Ipswich Town winger Gwion Edwards, according to a report by Football Insider.

Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson will face a tricky summer transfer window as he embarks on a mission to build a squad capable of gaining promotion from League One to the Championship next season.

Sunderland missed out on promotion for the second year in a row after the League One season ended via a points-per-game system which saw the Wearsiders drop to eighth in the league standings.

Player exits and arrivals are now expected at the Stadium of Light and Football Insider has reported that Parkinson is keen to bring in Ipswich winger Edwards.

The 27-year-old Welsh winger had only a moderate 2019/20 campaign with Paul Lambert’s side, appearing 27 times in which he scored twice and assisted one goal.

He recently signed a new contract at the Suffolk club in May 2020 which commits him to Ipswich until the summer of 2021. Edwards’ transfer status is unknown, with Transfermarkt giving him a current market value of £720k.

Whilst Sunderland have emerged with interest, it is also claimed that Oxford United are in the hunt for the winger, although they will have their attention firmly on the play-off semi-final encounter with Portsmouth.

Edwards’ statistics are hardly mouth-watering and the fact that he has played for Ipswich, another League One club who suffered such bad form towards the end of the season, may raise further eyebrows as to Sunderland’s reported interest in him.

Parkinson needs to ensure that every player he signs is going to impress, not only for a short while but over a prolonged period.

O JOGO
Com o Confiança muito fechado, marcando da sua intermediária com duas linhas de quatro e os dois homens de frente voltando para fechar o meio, o time teve maior volume. O estreante Fernandinho, flutuando bem, distribuía as jogadas.

Foram vários escanteios em sequência e os laterais criando jogadas pelos flancos, fazendo cruzamentos que William Arão e Juan cabecearam com perigo.

Mas quem fez a diferença foi Mancuello. Depois ter chutado da entrada da área pela esquerda uma bola que passou raspando, o argentino abriu o placar para o Rubro-Negro aos 24 minutos. Em boa trama pela esquerda, Fernandinho cruzou para a área e Arão ajeitou de cabeça para a entrada de Mancuello. O gringo deu um toque meio sem jeito de joelho, o suficiente para tirar o goleiro Rafael Sandes da jogada e colocar a bola na rede.

Mancuello sobrava. Foi um chute seu (que o goleiro Rafael espalmou) a melhor chance que o Rubro-Negro teve antes do intervalo.

Na volta do segundo tempo, o Flamengo passou a atacar mais pela direita e mostrou maior eficácia ofensiva, entrando facilmente na área. O Confiança ficou ainda mais fechado, fazendo faltas próximas da área. E Mancuello deitou e rolou. Cobrou falta na trave no primeiro minuto; no minuto seguinte, entrou livre e bateu em cima do goleiro. Aos sete, nova falta e a nova defesa díficil do goleiro. Estava insuportável para o campeão sergipano e, aos dez, Mancuello cobrou escanteio que Willian Arão desviou para Marcelo Cirino concluir para fazer 2 a 0.

Com o placar favorecendo o Flamengo, o Confiança – que então precisava de um gol para se classificar – tentou jogar um pouco mais adiantado, com o técnico Fahel colocando o atacante Kivel no lugar do volante Flavio, buscando municiar Tiago Orobó, até então isolado na frente. Foi um erro, pois deu ao Flamengo a possibilidade de contra-ataques. Foi assim que o time carioca chegou ao terceiro gol aos 20 minutos. Wilian Arão recebeu antes do meio de campo e fez lançamento perfeito para Marcelo Cirino entrar desmarcado, driblar o goleiro e fazer um belo gol, fechando o placar e já começando a pensar na semifinal do Campeonato Carioca contra o Vasco, no domingo, em Manaus.

Plenty of Everton fans have been reacting to a recent report from Area Napoli, which confirmed the Merseyside club’s interest in Lille man Gabriel from as early as April.

However, Carlo Ancelotti has potentially been dealt a major blow if he is to pursue the central defender in the upcoming summer transfer window, as his agent Fernando Garcia has spoken out about his client and said that he likes Napoli as a team and Gennaro Gattuso as a manager.

This means that if the Italian side and the Toffees were to battle it out for him, Gabriel may well choose Napoli over them based on the latest comments from his agent.

Indeed, this piece of news has rather caused a stir on Twitter, as one EFC supporter even claimed that he would ‘rather Kurt Zouma came back’.

Comparing the Chelsea ace’s time at Goodsion Park in the 2018/19 season to that of Gabriel in this campaign, the French centre-back achieved more interceptions and clearances per domestic league game, according to Whoscored.

It was only last month that Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson claimed that the writing was on the wall for Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Speaking after the Lilywhites’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United in their first game after the Premier League’s return, Merson insisted: “When Jose took the job I worried for Harry Kane. He played under Mauricio Pochettino and they had a go wherever they went. There were goals, crosses and shots. He’s going to be playing up front on his own and it’s going to be hard work.

“I think he’ll have a serious think at the end of the season, I don’t see him getting 25 or 30 goals next season the way Jose will want to play. He won’t want to play like he did when he first got in there, where it was 4-2s and 5-3s, no way. He’ll like games like 1-1.”

But after notching a stunning brace against Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, Kane has now scored 13 goals in 18 games under Mourinho’s leadership – that’s a rate of 0.72 goals per game. Compare that to his slightly worse record of 0.69 goals per game under Pochettino (169 total goals in 242 games).

It certainly fits the whole narrative of Mourinho being a defensive specialist to suggest Kane will struggle in one of the Portuguese man’s teams. But instead, the England international, even despite suffering a serious hamstring injury earlier this year, has proven he can score goals at an incredible rate under different types of managers and systems.

And against Leicester on Sunday, he was at his absolute best. First, he made the lung-busting run to help Heung-min Son find the back of the net via a deflected strike; then he looked as clinical as ever with a left-footed strike; and then, he rounded off the perfect first-half performance with a vintage curling effort into the top corner.

It was no surprise that Mourinho reserved huge praise for his star man after the game. He said: “Everybody thinks – I think, you think – he’s a fantastic player, and Tottenham is so lucky to have him because he is the player and the person and the Tottenham boy. He’s really special for us and we want him to be happy. He wants victories and he wants to score goals.”

After claims that he wouldn’t able to achieve great success under Mourinho, Kane has proven that he absolutely can, and has made a mockery of what Merson said.

A opção por reintegrar os jogadores ao elenco seria o caminho natural para a diretoria do Flamengo tomar. Além de os atletas estarem de folga quando a festa ocorreu, deixá-los afastados faria com o que perdessem a forma às vésperas do fim de temporada. Isto causaria uma desvalorização deles no mercado em época de negociação.

Não vejo nada de mal em escalar estes jogadores na próxima partida, afinal, devem estar em boas condições de jogo. Porém, o Flamengo tinha de começar o ano de 2016 com diretoria nova.

​A impressão que este episódio passa é de que o assunto foi mal conduzido pela diretoria. A cúpula do Flamengo precisava ter conversado com os jogadores para esclarecer a polêmica da festa, antes de precisar voltar atrás por tomar uma decisão intempestiva.

Porém, este episódio é o de menor proporção em uma gestão marcada pelos erros nas tomadas de decisões. Tanto que, se estiverem aptos a jogar, não vejo problema em escalar os atletas no fim de semana.

O problema é que o Flamengo precisa definir, de fato, sua filosofia, o perfil de jogadores que quer a partir da próxima temporada. Ao que tudo indica, boa parte dos “perdoados” não interessa ao clube para o ano que vem, por exemplo.
