Predicted Liverpool XI vs Leicester City

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat against Manchester City as they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

A defeat against Brendan Rodgers’ side would all but end Jurgen Klopp’s side’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title this season, and they will have to be at their best if they are to earn all three points against the in-form Foxes.

Klopp is still without all three of his main centre-back options at Liverpool due to injury, so we could see Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies make their debuts at the back following their arrivals in the January transfer window.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Klopp to line his side up on Saturday, with three changes from the side that started against Man City…

Alisson keeps his place in goal, despite his horror show against City last time out, as there is no doubt that he is still one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

There are debuts for both Kabak and Davies at the back, following the news that Fabinho is set to miss the game due a minor muscle injury.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson unsurprisingly start at full-back, and the former will be hoping for a repeat performance from last season, when he starred in a 4-0 win at the King Power which well and truly emphasised the Reds’ title credentials.

Jordan Henderson moves back into his preferred position in defensive-midfield, with Thiago dropping out, as the Spaniard looked tired in the game against City and perhaps wasn’t at his best as a result.

James Milner also comes in for Curtis Jones to provide some experience in midfield, whilst the front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will be the key to breaking down this impressive Leicester side.

Derby County: Bielik news upsets fans

Lots of Derby County fans have flocked to a tweet from The Athletic’s Derby correspondent Ryan Conway, which shared Rams manager Wayne Rooney’s revelation that Krystian Bielik has torn his right ACL for a second time.

The injury came during the East Midlands club’s 1-0 win over Bristol City on 30th January, however, the extent of the injury has only been confirmed more recently.

As explained in an article that Conway has written for The Athletic, Bielik tore his ACL last January too while playing with the Rams’ U23s to build up his fitness.

In this report, the journalist explained that the 23-year-old’s absence will be a significant blow for the relegation-battling side – something fans are well aware of anyway.

After Conway relayed Rooney’s confirmation of Bielik’s injury on Twitter, lots of Derby supporters flocked to his post.

So, how have these Derby County fans been reacting to this news?

This news has crushed many Rams supporters, who are understandably devastated for Bielik.

Benteke dominates for Palace in WBA win

Crystal Palace all but secured another season in the Premier League with a slender 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

A first half Luka Milivojevic penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides after Darnell Furlong handled the ball in the penalty area.

The Serbian midfielder was the match-winner, but Christian Benteke also stood tall as a huge reason behind Roy Hodgson’s Eagles sealing what is a huge victory in context of their campaign.

Following the Belgian’s goal in the 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, he put in another vital showing, albeit being more effective defensively against the Baggies.

According to WhoScored, the former Aston Villa and Liverpool man produced a huge seven clearances throughout the 90 minutes, with only Palace teammate Gary Cahill contributing more. He also won a massive 13 aerial challenges, proving to be an extremely physical and dominant presence in the Palace attack.

That saw the forward accumulate 51 touches of the ball throughout the 90 minutes, with only goalscorer Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt having more for the home side.

Benteke was also unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet once again. The £8.1m-rated forward fired in three shots throughout the match, getting two of them on target. As a matter of fact, he had as many shots at goal as the rest of the Palace team put together.

In all, it was a highly impressive performance from Benteke both going forwards and in defence.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson will hope to see more of those kind of displays for the remainder of the campaign, especially with the club’s place in the top flight all but confirmed ahead of 2021/22.

Exclusive: Rob Lee on Liverpool target

Ben White would be a great signing for Liverpool, Rob Lee has told The Transfer Tavern, after reports emerged once more about a possible move to Anfield for the Brigton man.

Ben White still on Anfield wanted list?

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool for a number of months now, after returning from his successful loan spell at Leeds United.

White has started all 19 Premier League games this season for the Seagulls but the South Coast side are still struggling down the bottom end of the Premier League table.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Lee explained why he believes that White would be a good addition to Klopp’s team.

“There’s no secret they need a centre-half,” he said. “It’s a case of ‘can they get who they want in this window?’ Which I doubt.

“Ben White, I think would be a very very good signing for them, can play with Van Dijk when he’s fit. They’ve had horrendous injuries at centre-half and it affects everything.

“Van Dijk not being in there affects the fullbacks. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and [Andy] Robertson have been nowhere as good as they were last year – for whatever reason.”

Lee’s comments came aftet the Liverpool Echo suggested that the Merseysiders may consider making a summer move for the young Englishman, despite the current fitness issues in their defensive department.

Transfer Tavern Verdict

We agree with Lee on this one. White could have the opportunity to flourish alongside the Dutchman in defence. The only issue is that he would likely come at a hefty price due to being a promising young English player.

However, waiting until the summer to sign a new defender will not do much to appease the restless supporters at the minute, as many of them are desperate to see someone brought in before Monday’s deadline, especially after yet another injury for Joel Matip against Tottenham.

Time will tell what Liverpool choose to do – and what consequences that their actions, or lack thereof, have on the rest of the season.

Leeds United: Mills discusses Meslier

Danny Mills has been discussing Illan Meslier following his agent speaking quite openly on a Leeds United podcast recently.

Mills fumes at agent

The goalkeeper’s agent insisted there are some “top clubs” taking an interest in the young player. Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said: “His agent is just stirring things up saying ‘I want a better deal because there are other people sniffing around.’ You know what? Agents should just pipe down.

“We’ve all been there, we’ve all done it. I’ve done it myself. All of sudden a story emerges in one of the newspapers saying ‘such and such are going to offer this amount a week and another club is interested.’

“He’s got a lot of potential but he’s still a young goalkeeper. He’s still in his first season in the Premier League. He’s been good but he’s not been off the scale.”

Agents showing their ugly side again

Meslier has been inconsistent this season, making two errors leading to goals in his first campaign in the top flight, but showing superb form at other times.

In the 25 appearances he has made in the Premier League, he has helped the club pick up 11 wins as he has made 99 saves, and kept eight clean sheets (Premier League), hardly a poor start for such a young player.

He is only 21 years-old, and this is quite a young age for a goalkeeper, but Marcelo Bielsa clearly has complete faith in him.

Mills is right to be disappointed in the agent as well – the £10.80m-rated ace is in a great position playing consistently in a great division, and so his agent should be a bit more careful with what he says next time.

Steve Cooper could revolutionise Crystal Palace

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace have reportedly added Steve Cooper to a potential list of candidates to replace Roy Hodgson this summer.

What’s the word?

Hodgson has recently admitted he remains “undecided” over his future at Selhurst Park, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it is understood that the Palace hierarchy are looking at potential replacements.

Sean Dyche is also seen as an option to replace Hodgson, but the Eagles are reportedly keeping tabs on the Swansea City boss and still identify him as a viable target alongside Dyche.

The Sun claim Steve Parish would be able to land Cooper more easily than Dyche as Burnley are most likely to offer him a new contract.

Palace have only managed two wins in their past seven games in the Premier League this season and are currently 14th in the table.

Perfect Roy Hodgson replacement

The clamour from Crystal Palace fans who want the 41-year-old to replace Hodgson is there, although he could very well already be in the Premier League by the end of the campaign, as his side are currently chasing automatic promotion from the Championship.

However, if Parish can tempt Cooper to Selhurst Park, he could completely revolutionise the club’s philosophy. Despite bringing in a couple of fresh faces in the likes of Eberechi Eze and Nathan Ferguson in the summer, Palace still have the oldest squad in the Premier League by quite some margin, although that can also be partly attributed to Ferguson’s long-term injury.

While Cooper has recently been credited for the work he has done with helping to develop young talents like Ben Cabango and Marc Guehi during his time at Swansea City, this has all stemmed from his early years in management, having previously managed England at under-16 level.

It’s no wonder Swansea have one of the youngest squads in the Championship with an average age of 25.3 but what is surprising to see is that they currently sit third in the league.

The Swans have also conceded just 15 goals in 27 games this season, which is five fewer than their promotion rivals Watford. Therefore, not only is he a game-changer in terms of their transfer business off the pitch, he has also transformed their fortunes on it, too by making them a much tougher nut to crack. By comparison, Palace have conceded 42 goals in 24 games thanks to that leaky defence.

Former Palace manager Tony Pulis has previously heaped praise on Cooper, insisting that the Englishman has done an “exceptional job” at Swansea.

If Palace are to take the next step in their development, getting rid of Hodgson and hiring Cooper would be a step in the right direction and be a dream in terms of bringing a new exciting and youthful identity at Selhurst Park.

Everton fans hail Coleman return v Burnley

Many Everton fans have been left to hail some early team news ahead of their home game versus Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Speaking to evertontv (via the official website of the Goodison Park faithful), Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that he Republic of Ireland international “will be back” to play against Sean Dyche’s team at the weekend.

The Merseyside club greatly missed their captain in their last match, a 2-0 away loss at the hands of Chelsea, a side with whom they are currently fighting for to finish in the UEFA Champions League qualification spots come the end of the 2020/21 term.

Coleman will offer a much more attacking threat than Mason Holgate, who has been filling in for the 32-year-old at right-back and is predominantly a central defender by trade.

Nonetheless, it will be great to see him back on the football pitch for the Toffees once more.
