Rangers fans slam Aribo vs Livingston

Many Rangers fans have been left to slam the display of Joe Aribo despite their 1-0 win over Livingston in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening.

The Ibrox faithful clinched all three points right at the end of the game thanks to a goal from Alfredo Morelos, who was controversially booked for simulation in the first half.

Steven Gerrard consulted the officials at half time and was consequently sent off for his protests, but that did not matter in the end as the Glasgow club managed to get the vital win and edge closer to the title.

However, while there were some very good performances in a Gers shirt, Aribo’s flattered to deceive several of the supporters.

The former Charlton Athletic man lost out on no fewer than seven of his duels, and also failed to record a single shot, accurate cross or long ball (Sofascore).

He also lost possession of the ball 23 times, and given that he registered 59 touches of the ball in total (Sofascore), that means the 24-year-old lost it roughly every 2.6 touches on average.

Casilla hints at Leeds exit

Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has hinted at a summer exit from Elland Road in a cryptic social media post on Tuesday night.

The 34-year-old has been at Leeds since the summer of 2019, following a spell at Real Madrid that brought with it three Champions League titles.

Casilla has had to watch on from the substitutes’ bench for the vast majority of this season, however, starting just once in the Premier League and playing second fiddle to Illan Meslier. He didn’t even make the matchday squad for Monday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

Casilla’s post hints at Leeds exit

The Spaniard’s current Leeds deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2023, but he has hinted that he may move on to pastures new before then.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Casilla posted a message that was translated by The Boot Room, saying the following:

“I’m slow to leave, because I believe in change. I wait, I endure, but one day I get tired. Without saying anything, I leave, and leave everything. Once I get tired, I will not come back. I give everything before leaving.”

Transfer Tavern take

It certainly looks as though Casilla is eyeing up a fresh challenge, perhaps feeling like his spell at Elland Road has reached its natural conclusion.

It seems highly unlikely that the former Madrid man is going to suddenly become Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper again, but this may be a concern for the likes of Victor Orta at Elland Road, who will have to splash out on an experienced deputy for Meslier if Casilla leaves – you are unlikely to find such an experienced player happy to play second fiddle.

West Ham must address Bowen’s regression

David Moyes must address Jarrod Bowen’s concerning rate of regression with the West Ham United forward on a persistent decline this season.

Bowen has proven to be a crucial cog in the Irons system all term, with the former Hull City winger featuring in all 26 Premier League fixtures and starting 23 of his outings to date.

Only Tomas Soucek (8) and Michail Antonio (7) have also scored more often in the top-flight for the Irons than Bowen (5), who is without a goal in his last seven appearances and is bordering on his longest drought all campaign – eight games.

And, off the ball, Bowen is beginning to flounder and he was benched for Pablo Fornals to take his place on the right-flank against Manchester City on Saturday. The energetic Spaniard shone at the Etihad Stadium to emerge as the Hammer’s silver lining in the 2-1 defeat.

Bowen’s defensive decline also concerns Kevin Phillips, with Wyscout data (as cited by Football Insider) showing that only three players across Europe’s top-five leagues allow the opposition to make a higher number of progressive passes than the £25m-rated maestro.

In a side that Moyes prides on its defensive discipline, Phillips does not believe there is room for Bowen to be carried by the likes of right-back Vladimir Coufal and midfield star Declan Rice.

“Stats don’t lie,” the 1999/2000 European Golden Boot winner told Football Insider. “In possession, he’s great. But ultimately, out of possession, you’ve got to know your positions, you’ve got to know when to press, you’ve got to know where to show someone and where not to show them.

“If you don’t get it quite right at this level, you get punished. It’s no surprise because he’s more of an offensive player, defending is not his main duty. But we all know that nowadays you’ve got to be able to do both.

“So that will be an area they’ll want to improve. These coaches know that. They’ll look at the stats. It’s certainly an area that he needs to learn, the young kid. That will get better as time goes on, particularly under Moyes, who is a fantastic coach.”

It is not only in the volume of progressive passes that he allows that shows that Bowen has been struggling defensively, with the 24-year-old performing at a worse standard this term than during his first half-season at the London Stadium in an array of areas.

The £22m January 2020 signing is currently offering Moyes fewer successful (0.7) and attempted (1.2) tackles per game in the Premier League than he did following his winter arrival last season (1.5/2.5), as well as fewer interceptions (0.6 to 1.2), per WhoScored.

Bowen has further made just two successful tackles in his last six top-flight appearances – both coming against Tottenham Hotspur – and offered two interceptions in that period – each coming at home to Liverpool.

The £96,000-per-week star has been lacking offensively, too, with just three key passes, two shots and two successful dribbles during his last six league outings combined.

Those displays have also resulted in an average WhoScored match rating of 6.34 – including two 6 out of 10s – to bring his seasonal average down to 6.72, the 11th-best at the London Stadium and behind £45m flop Sebastien Haller (6.75) who was sold for £20m in January.

Moyes will need to address Bowen’s concerning rate of regression, both on and off the ball, if the forward is to re-establish his place in the West Ham starting line-up.

Man Utd must reignite Saul interest

Manchester United could reignite their interest in previous transfer target Saul Niguez in the summer.

The Spanish midfielder has been linked with the Red Devils on numerous occasions in the past, with a move yet to come to fruition.

However, reports from Cadena Ser indicate that he could leave Atletico Madrid in the summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again waiting in the wings.

This time, the Red Devils must get their man.

Since breaking through into the Atletico first team, the 26-year-old has gone on to become one of the most complete midfield players in Europe.

In 326 appearances for Los Rojiblancos, he has scored 43 goals and notched 18 assists. For a player only just reaching his peak years, that is quite a considerable and impressive record.

His experience in Europe would hugely benefit the Red Devils, with Saul having racked up 59 appearances in the Champions League, reaching two finals as well as lifting the Europa League.

The 19-cap Spanish international thrives in a box-to-box role, not only getting forwards but also being extremely reliable when defending.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=” Latest Man United transfer rumours and news!”]

According to WhoScored, Saul averages 1.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and one clearance per game in all competitions.

Whilst this does not take him above Fred in the pecking order of United’s current midfielders, these defensive statistics rate him above Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic for those respective metrics.

That crucial role in a midfield trio with the Brazilian would allow Paul Pogba to push further forwards and support Bruno Fernandes in the Red Devils’ attacking play.

Whilst Saul is valued at £49.5m by Transfermarkt having over five years left on his current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, the reports that Atletico would allow him to leave in the upcoming transfer window could see that asking price lowered.

Now that he is seemingly available, United have to go back and finally get their man at the second time of asking.

Aston Villa to listen to Wesley offers

Aston Villa will reportedly listen to offers this summer for striker Wesley Moraes.

That’s according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, who claim that a permanent Villa Park exit is possible, with manager Dean Smith not convinced by the Brazilian before his devastating ACL injury last year.

A potential loan deal is also a possibility, which would then reportedly allow Villa to bolster their attack in the summer window.

Wesley’s £1m-per game Villa record

Wesley, on £35,000-a-week, has been out of action since New Year’s Day 2020 following the serious injury he picked up at Burnley, although he has returned to training in recent weeks.

He’s made 22 appearances for the club since his £22.5m move from Club Brugge back in 2019, costing the club just over £1m-per match so far.

Transfer Tavern take

With Smith not convinced prior to his long-term absence, it seems as if a summer exit could be a smart decision for all involved.

Whether that’s on a temporary basis or a full-time deal remains to be seen, but Villa, in our view, would do well to recoup the £22.5m they paid for the Brazilian due to the time he’s been on the injury table.

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to Howson tweet

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting to a tweet about former Owls forward Lucas Joao before they face his new side in the Championship this weekend.

Journalist Dom Howson tweeted: “Big challenge for SWFC today to try and stop in-form Reading striker Lucas Joao.”

This has received a lot of reaction as the forward has 17 goals in 28 Championship appearances this season (Transfermarkt) and Darren Moore’s side are starving for a goal threat.

The Owls desperately need points as they are six points from safety (SofaScore), and supporters probably wish that they still had the forward, even though his record at Hillsborough wasn’t the best as he only managed 29 goals in 127 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Joao’s current team Reading are in a great situation as they are battling for the playoffs, so any points for the Owls in this fixture would be very good for new manager Moore.

Moore was flying high with Doncaster in League One but decided to jump ship and move to Wednesday – if they can pick up some results starting with stifling Joao this weekend, he won’t regret his decision.

Here is how Wednesday fans reacted to the news:

Leicester must swoop for Jack Hendry

Leicester City are reportedly scouting young centre-back Jack Hendry ahead of a potential summer move.

The Scottish defender, who is on loan at Belgian outfit KV Oostende, has impressed in the Jupiler Pro League, with 90min.com revealing that Foxes have kept a close eye on his performances.

Any potential move would reunite Hendry with the manager that brought him to Celtic, Brendan Rodgers, and that could be a transfer that benefits both the Foxes and the player.

Having initially struggled at Celtic, the centre-back appears to have regained form with Oostende. He has made 23 appearances, scoring twice so far this season.

That improvement could well continue at Leicester, with Rodgers having had his influence in the development of a number of young players at the King Power Stadium, namely Harvey Barnes, Ben Chilwell, James Maddison and James Justin.

As a matter of fact, it is clear that Rodgers has an extremely high opinion of Hendry having stated that he “never goes missing” during a tricky spell at Celtic Park. Should the Northern-Irishman still rate the defender, despite that indifferent run of form, then he must certainly have talent.

Even if he does not go straight into the Foxes’ first team, Hendry would provide useful cover in defence. Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans are at the wrong side of 30 years of age, leaving just Wesley Fofana and Caglar Soyuncu as the younger, natural centre-backs in the East-Midlands.

With all four of them having suffered from respective injuries this season too, bolstering the defensive positions could well benefit the Foxes.

Rated at just £900k, a move for Hendry could well be a smart and shrewd purchase from the East-Midlanders.

Wolves eyeing Trincao move

With Wolves’ season as good as done, they can already start preparing for next term.

Considering they currently sit in the bottom half of the table, it will be a pivotal summer for Jeff Shi and Nuno Espirito Santo.

What’s the word?

Wolves’ main ambition during the next window looks as though it’ll be to add to their forward line. Lucas Ocampos and Goncalo Guedes have both been linked with moves but it’s another La Liga forward who is now the subject of their attention.

According to El Confidencial, Wolves are interested in bringing Barcelona’s young sensation Trincao to Molineux. They state that clubs with close ties to Jorge Mendes are keeping an eye on his situation and it’s the Midlands outfit who are looking at him keenly.

Any thought of a permanent switch is likely to be out of the question, with Trincao’s release clause sitting at an almighty €500m (£427m).

Traore upgrade

Wolves’ need for more forwards couldn’t be more apparent. With Raul Jimenez missing since November because of a fractured skull, their attackers have been struggling significantly.

Fabio Silva has only found the net twice since his record-breaking move from Porto last summer while Willian Jose hasn’t scored at all. As for Adama Traore, he hasn’t beaten the goalkeeper either in Premier League action this term.

Traore was sensational in 2019/20, scoring four goals and setting up nine in the top flight. This season, however, he is yet to register a single goal involvement in the league.

A move for Trincao, therefore, could represent an upgrade. The 21-year-old has only started twice in La Liga for Barca but has three goals and two assists. He has also proven to be a rampant livewire in terms of his dribbling.

Speaking about the youngster previously, former Benfica star Nuno Gomes said: “You can never expect what he’s going to do. It’s similar to what happens with Neymar. The Brazilian is also unpredictable with the ball. Trincao looks a bit like him, they both play on the sidelines.”

You can certainly see why that assessment has been made. For Braga last season, Trincao amassed 2.3 dribbles per game. He has stood out in a similar regard in the Champions League, completing two per match.

It might not be the dizzy heights of Traore’s 4.2 dribbles per game, but the Portuguese forward evidently has more end product; last season he scored eight times and provided six assists in Liga NOS.

Even if it was only on loan, he would add undoubted quality to this Wolves side next season. Shi must use Mendes to his advantage once again.

AND in other news, Shi must axe £35k-p/w Wolves flop this summer, his value has plummeted by 80%…
