Tudo igual! Atlético-GO e Ceará fazem jogo movimentado e ficam no empate

O JOGO

Celtic urged to sign Paul Onuachu

With Celtic’s season more or less done and dusted besides a few fixtures to fulfil, they can start thinking about next summer.

For starters, they will have to find a new manager, while they are also set to welcome a new director of football. Whoever takes up that role will have the honourable job of trying to rebuild the Hoops with new recruits.

What’s the word?

Celtic have already been busy preparing for next term. They’ve reportedly agreed a pre-contract deal with Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Shaw while they’re also closing in on Wigan youngster Kyle Joseph.

However, in terms of boosting their starting XI, they’ve now been urged to sign one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.

Speaking on the latest edition of A Celtic State of Mind podcast, Colin Watt commented: “One that I think people should go and take a look at [is] Paul Onuachu. He’s a Nigerian striker that plays for Genk; he was formerly of FC Midtjylland, and he’s scored almost 100 goals in five seasons, 6ft 7in tall. Roughly, the going price for him is about £7-10m.”

“That’s us actually taking a look out into the European market and trying to replace [Odsonne] Edouard with an experienced striker.”

Edouard has been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Leicester over the last few days in what feels like an inevitable departure. Recruiting another striker, therefore, will be a necessity.

Imagine him & Turnbull

Signing a player like Onuachu would be superb business by the Hoops. When it comes to someone who can find the back of the net, there are few better for the price touted.

The Nigerian has netted 35 goals in just 57 appearances for Belgian side Genk, 25 of which have all come during the 2020/21 campaign.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-hunt-stories-wagner-marsch-martinez-lennon-news” title=”The last stories on Celtic’s hunt for a new manager!”]

Standing at 6 foot 7, the striker is a giant in the air and has already earned comparisons to Peter Crouch. That being said, he is far more assured on the ball and a lot more prolific in front of goal.

Speaking about the 26-year-old, his former teammate at FC Midtjylland Alexander Scholz said: “Years ago, when he was with us, he was already the best striker in our championship. It’s impossible to beat him because he’s so tall. He is a worker, he has always worked a lot. He had to wait for his chance but I’m happy for him.”

Just imagine what a player like this could do for David Turnbull. The attacking midfielder has been a breath of fresh air to the Celtic side this term, injecting enormous amounts of swagger and creativity into the team.

The 21-year-old has scored six times and provided five assists in the SPFL for the Hoops this term, racking up 2.6 key passes per match. For context, no other player in the Celtic team has more in 2020/21.

Thus, just imagine what a player of his qualities could achieve with Onuachu leading the line. Turnbull has already developed a fine partnership with Edouard but this would be yet another mouth-watering combination for the Hoops.

Celtic must consider a move for the £10m-rated forward if the opportunity arises.

THFC: Whelan on Bale’s Spurs future

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan claimed that Gareth Bale’s future at Tottenham Hotspur rests in the hands of Jose Mourinho.

According to the former Leeds United forward, Mourinho will have the final say as to whether Spurs make a summer move to re-sign Bale, and that Daniel Levy – who personally pushed for the 31-year-old’s signing last summer, while the Tottenham manager was ‘largely peripheral’ in the deal – would give his full backing to the Portuguese should he indeed wish to keep the £18m-rated Welshman in north London for a further season.

Asked by Football Insider whether he believes Spurs will make a move to sign Bale once again this summer, Whelan said: “Yeah, you’d think so. I’m sure Jose will have the last say. He won’t come down to peer pressure from fans or anybody else. Jose knows what he wants and the chairman will back that, I’m sure.

“As I say, there are no friends in football. There’s no love just because you’ve been at a club before. Jose will choose what he feels best is best for Tottenham Hotspur. Gareth Bale’s got until the end of the season to prove he’s worthy of a contract.”

Transfer Tavern Take

Having got off to a rather slow start following his return to Spurs, suffering a number of injury setbacks and scoring just one goal over his first seven Premier League appearances this season, Bale has burst into life in recent weeks, bagging four goals and providing two assists over his last four league fixtures. He also scored in both legs of the Europa League round of 32 win over Wolfsberger AC.

However, considering that Bale is paid roughly £240,000 per week by Spurs, more than what both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min – who have scored 16 and 13 Premier League goals respectively this season – receive from the club, it could be argued that the Welshman still has a lot more to do over what remains of the season to prove his worth to Tottenham in the long run.

Everton eye move for Napoli’s Koulibaly

Carlo Ancelotti should urge Everton to seal the Italian a reunion with SSC Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and sign a commanding partner for Ben Godfrey this summer.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Koulibaly tops Everton’s shortlist for defensive signings after Ancelotti made centre-back upgrades a priority for the next transfer window.

The Italian tactician is understood to be chasing the arrival of a world-class option capable of delivering the same level of impact that Liverpool saw from £75m signing Virgil van Dijk and that Manchester City have benefited from with their £65m capture Ruben Dias.

Everton chiefs are understood to be structuring a deal that would see the Goodison Park outfit sign Koulibaly, despite knowing a move for the Senegalese powerhouse would have little resale value as he turns 30 in June.

Napoli had demanded £69m for Koulibaly’s exit amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United last summer, but reports by Gazzetta dello Sport via FourFourTwo have claimed the Serie A side are now willing to slash their asking price.

The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium hierarchy believe this summer is the right moment to sell the 43-cap international, as Koulibaly will have two years remaining on his £195,000-per-week contract come the end of the season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-news-on-everton” title=”Check out the latest news on Everton!”]

Ancelotti has instructed Director of Football Marcel Brands and his team to target a new centre-half in the off-season, as he does not believe Everton’s current options have the right skill set to work together long-term.

Michael Keane has opened the most Premier League fixtures at centre-half for the former Napoli head coach at 25 from a possible 28 so far this season, while Yerry Mina has started 19, Ben Godfrey has opened 11 of his 21 outings in the centre and Mason Holgate six of 18 appearances.

Should Everton sign Napoli’s Koulibaly?

A move for Everton to sign Koulibaly in the summer would likely still come with a hefty price tag, despite the reports from Italy that Napoli are willing to lower their asking price for the £54m-rated titan.

Koulibaly’s representatives from Lian Sports Group will likely also push for a hefty wage after securing Leroy Sane a £298k-p/w deal when he left Manchester City for Bayern Munich last summer, which was more than three times the salary the German was on at the Etihad Stadium.

But Ancelotti convincing Everton’s owner Farhad Moshiri to sanction a swoop could see the Italian acquire a dream partner for Godfrey, who the Toffees boss is said to consider as the best of his current central defenders and the one with the most potential.

Blues supporters are often bowled over by Godfrey’s performances, as well, with the £20m signing from Norwich City earning a wealth of praise for his efforts against Manchester City in the FA Cup last Saturday despite losing the quarter-final tie.

Koulibaly could be the perfect partner for Godfrey, having been lauded by Kevin Campbell as an “excellent” target for Arsenal last summer, while former Chelsea star Craig Burley claimed “is Koulibaly a great get for most clubs? Absolutely, he is a fantastic centre-half,” amid Liverpool and Manchester United’s interest.

Koulibaly’s experience and knowledge could also help Godfrey fulfil the potential Ancelotti sees in him, even if bringing the 6 ft 1 brute to Goodison Park would likely be an expensive operation for Everton.

Man City fans buzz over Zabaleta news

Manchester City cult hero Pablo Zabaleta, as relayed by an exclusive with the Mirror, is in talks over an emotional return to Eastlands nearly four years after his departure – with the Argentine open to taking up different roles for the club following his retirement from football in October.

Zabaleta, who made 333 appearances for the Sky Blues before emotionally saying goodbye at the end of the 2016/2017 season, winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield at the Etihad, could now make a dream return in a non-playing capacity.

The Argentine is a fan favourite for the club, being one of the only players signed before the takeover to survive in City’s squad for years thereafter.

After his departure from the Etihad, Zabaleta could come back in a non-playing role – as the Mirror relay CFG have approached him over a return in some capacity as he will continue to negotiate.

The 36-year-old hinted he could even take up a coaching role as supporters flock to this ‘awesome news’ shared by City Xtra on social media, and it’s little wonder why they’re excited given the love for ‘Zaba’.

Man Utd fans slam James vs AC Milan

Many Manchester United fans were left to slam the display of Dan James in their 1-1 home draw to AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.

Amad Diallo’s first senior goal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team was cancelled out very late on by a header from Simon Kjaer at Old Trafford, which Dean Henderson should have done much better with.

Nonetheless, James was guilty of missing a great chance in the second half that he put wide of the goal, and did not have the best of games in general.

The former Swansea City man lost out on five of his duels and also failed to record a single shot on target, key pass or accurate cross in the match (Sofascore).

He also lost possession of the ball no fewer than 15 times, the joint-second most out of any MUFC player, as he earned a very measly 6.3 overall rating on Sofascore, the lowest out of any of his teammates to have started the clash.

Manchester United fan reaction to James display

These Red Devils slammed his performance on Twitter, with one supporter even going as far as to claim that the Wales international is ‘useless’:

A OPOSIÇÃO PREDATÓRIA

TUAS GLÓRIAS VEM DO PASSADO?

“A Copa do Brasil é nossa Copa do Mundo”.

QUEM VAI PAGAR A CONTA?

Celtic face competition for van Ewijk

Celtic were linked with a summer move for ADO Den Haag defender Milan van Ewijk earlier this month.

Reports from the Netherlands claimed that the Hoops, along German trio Schalke, Hamburg and Darmstadt and Belgian side Gent, were all keen on the 20-year-old.

Van Ewijk to Celtic latest

Voetbal International, cited by Sport Witness, has now provided an update on the situation. They claim that Celtic, who have ‘expressed their interest’ over van Ewijk, will now have to move quickly if they want to get him.

That’s because Dutch side Heerenveen are now ready to move for the youngster to fill their right-back void.

Transfer Tavern take

It seems as if a new right-back is required at Parkhead this summer after Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed left earlier this year.

Voetbal International have labelled van Ewijk’s development as ‘stormy’ and describe the youngster as ‘one of the few bright spots’ at the club.

The right-back, who has also played as a centre-back, has missed just 51 minutes of Eredivisie action this season.

He currently holds a £675,000 Transfermarkt valuation and is out of contract in June 2022, so, if the Hoops are quick, they may well land an exciting talent who appears to be getting better with each passing month.
