O Flamengo sentiu o gramado do Furacão principalmente no primeiro tempo. Ainda se acostumando com o campo, o Rubro-Negro errou alguns passes e domínios de bola. Além disso, o ritmo era mais rápido.

Liverpool fans want Elliott to stay put

A number of Liverpool fans have been calling for Harvey Elliott to stay put at Anfield this summer, rather than going out on loan again.

The Reds could have a busy transfer window in the summer, with incomings and outgoings both expected after what has been a tumultuous season.

Jurgen Klopp will be keen to bolster his squad, but equally, there are fringe players who could generate some much-needed transfer funds, such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi.

Someone who could potentially become a first-team regular is Elliott, with the 18-year-old coming off the back of an excellent season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The forward scored seven goals and registered 11 assists in the Championship in 2020/21, catching the eye with his vision, quick feet and end product.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are still yet to decide what to do with Elliott and Sepp van den Berg this summer, as Klopp weighs up his options.

There is an increasing feeling that the teenager could be a handy player to have around, however, given his recent performances.

In other news, some Liverpool fans are unhappy with a link claiming the Reds want to sign a Premier League player this summer. Find out who it is here.

Sanchez confident Bielsa stays at Leeds

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Premier League manager Lawrie Sanchez has compared Marcelo Bielsa to Roy Hodgson, and believes the Argentine will stay at Leeds this summer.

Following his outstanding job since his appointment in 2018, the 65-year-old is a hugely popular figure with the Elland Road faithful.

Having guided Leeds back to the Premier League, Bielsa has already turned them into an extremely competitive side, with a top-half finish firmly in their sights despite losing to Brighton on Saturday.

But just like this time 12 months ago, there remains anxiety surrounding his future once again, with his current deal running out in two months.

Bielsa only signed a new one-year contract one day before the season got underway, and a repeat could be on the cards this time around.

However, reports do point towards the fan favourite remaining at Elland Road next season.

And despite the uncertainty, Sanchez has reassured Leeds supporters by saying that he expects the experienced manager to stay on.

He told Football FanCast:

“Where does he go? He isn’t going to another Premier League club. I think he’s a bit like Roy Hodgson. He wants to work, doesn’t he?

“He’s working now in the biggest league in his life, and as much as he comes across as not that interested in it, when people tap you on the shoulder back home and say, ‘I saw you on the TV the other week, your team did brilliant,’ it’s a massive boost to you.

“I think he will stay. They call him a maverick; he dances to his own tune, doesn’t he?

“So, if he did leave you would say ‘that’s Bielsa’. But if he were to stay involved in football and having come all the way to Leeds and having seen how well the team has done this year, and obviously they will be backed next year, so I can see him staying.”

Pundit claims fans not worried about Bielsa

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Leeds United midfielder, David Norris, has revealed that fans aren’t yet worried about Marcelo Bielsa leaving, despite his contract being set to expire at the end of the season.

There have been reports claiming that the Leeds hierarchy are planning for life without Bielsa in case he decides time is up on his spell at Elland Road, with Massimiliano Allegri one name linked with the job.

Bielsa has received high praise throughout this season from pundits and managers, none more so than Pep Guardiola who appeared to not believe his luck when the Argentine praised him for his tactics and the way he is as a manager.

Speaking on why Leeds fans aren’t worried about Bielsa leaving the club and how the Argentine loves being at Leeds, Norris exclusively told FFC:

“He seems to love it there so I don’t think that fans are as worried as they would be about another manager because I think, if he’s happy there, he’ll stay.

“It’s obviously not ideal, but I don’t think it’s at the top of the club’s priority list and they won’t be panicking that he is going to go.”

After being appointed in 2018, Bielsa oversaw two seasons in the Championship with the first one seeing Leeds crash out of the playoffs, while the second was a title-winning campaign.

Leeds have managed to hold their own in recent weeks when they have played some of the big six clubs, having taken five points off Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Wigan in talks over new deal for Dodoo

Ipswich should abandon their pursuit of striker Joe Dodoo after Wigan confirmed that they have offered an extended contract to the former Rangers centre-forward.

What’s the talk?

League One outfit Wigan have named Dodoo as one of the players they are attempting to keep beyond the end of their contract this summer. Dodoo is currently set to become a free agent at the end of next month, but Wigan are now looking to tie him down to a new deal to keep him at the club heading into next season.

Football Insider have claimed that Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham are all chasing after the striker as they weigh up their options in the transfer market. Ipswich are said to be interested in the attacker to bolster their squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Potential mistake

Wigan are keen to keep hold of Dodoo, as shown by their announcement, and this could make a transfer very difficult for Ipswich to complete. As h’es a free agent, Ipswich could negotiate directly with Dodoo and avoid paying a transfer fee for his services, but this will not be the case if he signs fresh terms with Wigan and remains a contracted player going into July.

Dodoo negotiating a new deal with Wigan makes the situation complicated and the striker is not worth the hassle for Ipswich. For starters, Dodoo has been a journeyman during his career so far; playing for Bolton, Rangers, Blackpool, Bury, Charlton, Leicester and Ankara Keciörengücü prior to his move to Wigan – all by the age of 25. He has not been able to settle down at any club, with 27 games for Bolton the most he has managed for a single side at senior level.

Paul Cook outlined his long-term ambitions to reach the Championship upon his arrival at Portman Road and signing a player who could only be in it for the short-term is a potential mistake. Cook told Ipswich’s website:

“I have been impressed by his ideas and ambitions to help take Ipswich Town forwards.

“I look forward to working with him as we strive firstly to return to the Championship.”

If Ipswich are planning for the long-term then Dodoo is not a player the club should be targeting, especially if it involves paying a fee for the £315k-rated dud.

Dodoo produced four goals and three assists in 20 League One appearances for Wigan this season. Ipswich striker James Norwood managed nine goals and three assists in 26 games, 19 starts, which suggests that Dodoo would not be an improvement on Cook’s current options even if did join Ipswich for the long haul.

Bangladesh's performance in one-day cricket

Bangladesh’s performance in one-day cricket: Preview

Arshad Chughtai29-Apr-2001Bangladesh cricket history’s most cheerful day was when they achieved a stirring victory against Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup. It stunned the World since Pakistan, up to that stage of the tournament was leading and well ahead of Australia, the ultimate winners. In fact, that historic victory paved the way for Bangladesh’s admission to the ICC as a regular member, a status granted a year later. Since then, Bangladesh has made a good effort to establish its credentials in International Cricket. Although they lost their inaugural Test match against India at Dhaka in November last and more recently have again been out played in the first Test match of the current two-test series against Zimbabwe, they have fought well and learnt at the same time. One should give them due credit for the amount of effort their cricketers have put in these matches and that also assures their bright future.Bangladesh played its first One-day Internationals in 1985-86 and to date has played 40 ODI’s, losing 38 and scoring a solitary victory each against Kenya, Scotland and Pakistan. It would be worth reviewing their performance in the recently concluded One-day International series against Zimbabwe.Harare – First match:
Bangladesh tasted heavy defeat at the very out set of the series. Zimbabwe taught the babes of International Cricket a tough lesson by seven wickets. Bangladesh reached a relatively low total of 151 for 8 in 50-overs. Akram Khan (35), Mushfiqur Rahman (31) and Mohammad Rafique (22) were the only notable scorers. B Strang (2/25), Mutendera (2/45) and A Blignaut (2/24) all bowled well to contain the visitors and claim wickets. Zimbabwe, slowly but easily reached the target with 6.5 overs and seven wickets to spare. S Carlisle scored 40, A Flower 40 not out and G Flower 32 not out.Harare – Second match:
Alistair Campbell scored his seventh One-day century (103) off 145 balls with 8 hits to the fence. He was associated with S Carlisle in a 2nd wicket partnership of 133 to enable Zimbabwe reach a modest total of 230-7, after being put into bat by Bangladesh. Manjurul Islam returned his career best analysis of 3 for 37 in ten overs. Bangladesh in reply, crashed to 103 all out in 30.4 overs. Only Javed Omar carried his bat for 33. Incidentally, the opener repeated this feat in the second innings of the first Test also. Bangladesh’s last six wickets fell for 28 runs in nine overs. Heath Streak claimed 2 for 20, Mutendera 3 for 23 and Viljoen 2 for 14. Skipper Naimur Rahman struck 25 off 21 balls with four fours.Bulawayo – Third match:
Bangladesh gave a good account of themselves in this match. Zimbabwe scored an imposing total of 308 for 4, mainly built through the 148 runs of a 4th wicket partnership between brothers Grant and Andy Flower. Grant scored 142 not out and Andy 81. S Carlisle scored 42 not out. Though Bangladesh surpassed their previous highest score of 257 yet their valiant effort fell 36 runs short of the target. Opener Javed Omar scored 69, Habibul Bashar hit 74 and their 3rd wicket partnership produced 74 runs off 103 balls. B Strang claimed 3 for 56, Mutendera 2/44 and Andy Blignaut 2/41. Grant Flower who had smashed 65 off the last five overs was the Man of the Match and the Series. For the tourists, Javed Omar, Habibul Bashar, M Rahman and N Rahman batted with determination while Manjural Islam, Mohammad Sharif and Mushfiqur Rahman bowled well. Zimbabwe fully exploited the lack of experience and weaknesses of the minnows of International Cricket and thus convincingly won. However the visitors have surely been enriched with useful experience and exposure to top-level cricket.

Newcastle make Kakuta transfer approach

Newcastle United have reportedly made an approach to sign Gael Kakuta in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Kakuta a forgotten man

Some members of the St. James’ Park faithful may be familiar with the name Kakuta given that he was a youngster on the books with Chelsea, and even managed to win a Premier League title and FA Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge (Transfermarkt).

Kakuta, now 29 years of age, has progressed a lot since then, and is currently doing very well in Ligue 1 for RC Lens, with no fewer than 11 goals and a further five assists in 33 games in total so far over the course of the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Newcastle make Kakuta approach

As per Foot Mercato, the Tyneside club have made an approach to bring the DR Congo international to the North East.

This deal would be done in the summer, once his time in Lens ends after a loan spell at the French side from Amiens SC.

The Verdict: Newcastle should be wary over Kakuta

The Magpies should not be looking to jump the gun in order to sign Kakuta, despite his impressive record in France this season – Steve Bruce’s team should be wary over how it did not quite work out in English football for him as a young prospect in London.

That’s not to say they should completely rule out a transfer, depending on the fee being demanded, Kakuta could be a shrewd addition to his squad, and may be someone to keep an eye on when the market officially opens.

However, we feel there are better options out there, perhaps at a younger age with more room to grow.

In other news, find out what big claim has been dropped on the potential takeover here!

Spurs talks with Rangnick held

According to a report by the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur have held a conversation with former FC Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick – but it’s ‘unclear’ whether talks were regarding the manager’s job or a director’s position.

The Lowdown: Rangnick on the candidate list

The 62-year-old has been loosely touted as an option over this last month, with the Athletic reporting back in late April that Spurs could indeed turn to Rangnick as credible candidate.

Reliable reporter Christian Falk (via Sport Witness) even claimed that Rangnick was offered the Spurs manager’s job and has held talks with both Manchester United and Everton in past seasons – so he’s no stranger to Premier League discussions.

The Latest: Tottenham hold Rangnick talks

Bringing the latest, the Guardian state there has been a conversation between Spurs and Rangnick – but it remains unclear whether the talks were regarding the managerial vacancy or a director’s position.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-gossip/” title=”Spurs gossip” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

They relay that the search for a new manager rumbles on but insist Rangnick has indeed been contacted.

As well as Rangnick, they believe Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has also had talks with Tottenham.

The Verdict: Credible option for Spurs

While it is unclear whether this conversation was over the managerial vacancy, we believe that he more than stands out as a very credible candidate to become the next Lilywhites boss.

Having won two Austrian league titles with Red Bull Salzburg and three major trophies at Schlake (Transfermarkt), Rangnick isn’t exactly short of experience when it comes to winning silverware.

Lauded as a ‘perfectionist’ by former RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen (ESPN), the Independent claimed back in 2019 that Rangnick was interested in succeeding Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

He has been credited as a huge influence on some of the biggest managerial names in football, including Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel (ESPN).

Dubbed the godfather of gegenpressing, we believe Rangnick and Tottenham are a match made in heaven.
