Manchester United: Diogo Dalot unhappy and wants to leave

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has been linked with various sides throughout this transfer window, and the latest news suggests that the player might be one who could leave before the window shuts.

According to  The Transfer Window Podcast, via The Express, the full-back is not happy at the Red Devils due to his lack of game time, and he would therefore like to leave the club sooner rather than later.

However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not ready to sanction an exit for the 21-year-old as he still wants defensive cover, but there might be the possibility of letting the Portuguese right-back leave the club on a loan deal for the season.

The 21 year-old, per Transfermarkt, who is valued at £10.8 million, has made 34 appearances for Manchester United, picking up a goal and three assists along the way, but only featured in the Premier League four times last season and with Aaron Wan-Bissaka signing for the club last summer, and this is why it makes sense that he wants to leave as it would benefit him if he wants to play consistently.

He also seems to have moved further down the pecking order as Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been featuring more lately than Dalot and a loan deal for the player would benefit all parties as the club still have enough depth in that position and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can see if Dalot improves and plays well consistently elsewhere and the player gets what he wants.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but if he is not happy to stay at the club, then it would definitely be best for him to leave as soon as possible as his mood could affect the squad and Solskjaer will not want that before the season gets underway.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should start Jermain Defoe instead of Alfredo Morelos

Glasgow Rangers ace Jermain Defoe seems to have revelled in rubbishing Sky Sports pundit John Hartson’s claims after he arrived at Ibrox in January 2019.

The former Celtic striker told the Daily Record that Steven Gerrard does not know his best team.

And he blamed two big signings for confusing the situation after Rangers agreed to sign Defoe and Steven Davis on loan deals from Bournemouth and Southampton.

Hartson said “they brought in a big signing in Jermain Defoe, but it just confused the situation. It left Gerrard wondering who to play.”

And he added “Davis hasn’t kicked a ball.”

However, it looks like Defoe has had the last laugh, as he has been directly involved in 35 goals in just 55 games for Steven Gerrard’s side, including a hattrick against Hiberian in only his second Scottish Premiership start last season.

The highly-rated 38-year-old striker could displace Colombia international Alfredo Morelos after he came off the bench to score his first goal and supply his first assist of the season against Lincoln Red Imps in the Europa League last month.

Despite his advancing years, Defoe has routinely continued to defy the critics. He famously scored a stunning solo goal against Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light to win the Wear-Tyne Derby in 2015.

If you take a look at his heatmaps last season, you can clearly see his playing style hasn’t really changed a great deal with an even greater emphasis on being inside the box, although he has also become somewhat of a poacher-turned-provider.

He formed a prolific partnership with the more mobile Gareth Bale during his time at Tottenham Hotspur with the pair combining for thirteen goals between them in all competitions, via Transfermarkt. Imagine what he could do with Ianis Hagi fully fit and firing on all cylinders.

With Defoe working his way back from fitness after a hamstring injury ruled him out for the start of the season, Gerrard should seriously consider starting his old comrade up top for their next game which is a huge one against Old Firm rivals Celtic, and relegating Morelos to the bench.

Defoe was once described as an “unbelievable” player by his former teammate Alan Hutton who believes the veteran is more than capable of recreating his clinical form for many more years to come.

Meanwhile, Morelos rather tends to make a meal of things against Celtic as he has so far failed to score a single goal in the Old Firm Derby whilst suffering the ignominy of being sent off several times already, as per Transfermarkt.

This time Rangers need someone they can rely on and Defoe is exactly the type of player who can get the job done. He is a goalscorer with a much calmer temperament and is someone who has experienced huge derbies in the past, including the one in North London as well as the Tyne-Wear clash.

AND in other news, Steven Gerrard right to send Rangers’ Kai Kennedy to Inverness Caledonian Thistle…

Liverpool don’t need to sign a Lovren replacement

Michael Edwards looks to have done it again.

Liverpool look set to receive around £11m for Dejan Lovren as the Croatian’s move to Zenit looks set to be finalised in the coming days.

The defender has made just 10 Premier League appearances this term, and while he has been a good servant over the years, it’s fair to say that he won’t be missed all that much after falling out of favour.

There’s no reason why Liverpool’s defence can’t remain just as strong without Lovren in the squad as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip remain as the spine of what makes the Reds’ backline one of the best in the world.

Of course, only having three senior centre-backs is a dangerous game. We all saw how much Man City struggled after Aymeric Laporte’s injury, and that was partially down to their inability to replace Vincent Kompany in the summer, but despite this, Liverpool don’t need to replace Lovren.

Sepp van der Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever are two highly-rated young centre-halves who could easily fill the void left by Lovren in the cup games or off the bench, while any serious injury to one of their stars could be covered by Fabinho dropping back and playing in defence, a position he’s adept at, playing there three times under Jurgen Klopp.

Rather than spending their windfall on a replacement for Lovren, they should take the fee and the money they’re saving on his £100k-a-week wages and use that to bolster another area of the squad, perhaps it could even go towards that elite attacker James Pearce spoke about a few weeks ago.

Liverpool should put their money straight in the bank for later use rather than spending it on a replacement for Lovren.

Mateusz Klich has proven he is Premier League quality

Leeds United will be a Premier League side next season.

The Whites have been crowned Champions in England’s second-tier, and after a 16-year hiatus they’re finally set to return to the promised land.

As with most promoted sides, United will need to strengthen upon their ascension to the top-flight, and they’ve already been linked to some new additions with names such as Yan Couto and Branimir Kalaica already being floated around.

However, with Bielsa making few changes to the side since his appointment in 2018, he may want to persevere with the players that have proved successful so far.

One man who has been a lynchpin in Bielsa’s side since day one is Mateusz Klich, with the Pole starting every single league game bar one since the Argentine’s arrival, and despite being out of favour under Paul Heckingbottom, he already looks like Premier League material.

Luckily, United have had a bit of experience playing against quality opposition, putting up a very impressive performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup that earnt them plenty of praise from pundits and supporters alike.

Klich took to playing against a team of the Gunners’ calibre like a duck to water, easily keeping up with the pace of the game, making three tackles and two interceptions, while also playing four key passes, showing that despite having less time on the ball when playing against top-flight opposition, he can still be a creative force.

United may be tempted to spend big upon promotion, especially if the long-rumoured QSI takeover finally comes to fruition, but even if they do bring in some big names, Klich should certainly have a spot in the squad, even if his streak of league starts has to come to an end.

Opinion: West Ham’s interest in Nottingham Forest duo backs up Moyes’ transfer strategy

West Ham United will be able to land Nottingham Forest duo Joe Worrall and Matty Cash for a cut-price £25m this summer, according to Football Insider.

What does the report say?

Worrall and Cash have both played important roles this season from their centre-back and right-back roles respectively, forming a key part of the side’s resolute defence under Sabri Lamouchi.

Only Brentford and Leeds United have conceded fewer goals in the Championship than Forest this season, with the club sitting fifth overall.

According to Football Insider, their form has attracted the interest of the Hammers who could look to take advantage of their financial worries facing Championship clubs and secure the two youngsters for a combined fee of £25m.

Both players have shown plenty of promise and have already gained plenty of experience at Championship level, with Worrall making 37 league starts this season and Cash starting 34 times.

West Ham reportedly made a £12m approach for Cash in January but were knocked back, although it now appears financial necessity could force Forest to part with two of their prized assets.

Looking to youth

Moyes said this week that he has been using the lockdown as an opportunity to look at the club’s recruitment plans and it appears as though West Ham will be looking at more young players going forward.

The Hammers have made plenty of expensive mistakes in recent seasons and their league position is not reflective of some of the transfer fees they have paid out.

With three goals and four assists, Cash is the sort of attacking full-back the club needs, while alongside Michael Dawson, Worrall has formed one of the most effective central defensive partnerships in the second tier.

Tottenham fans want Ben Chilwell to arrive at club

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have urged their club to move for Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell.

The 22-year-old was in fine form for England on Thursday night – providing three assists as the Three Lions ran out 7-0 winners over Montenegro in their penultimate Euro 2020 qualifier.

Chilwell has also been a key contributor to Leicester City making a brilliant start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Indeed, the left-back has scored once and provided three assists for a team currently second in the Premier League table after 12 matches.

And after watching Chilwell impress for Gareth Southgate’s side on Thursday night, many Spurs fans urged their club to move for the defender.

Leicester have their academy product on a contract until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, suggesting that it will be very tough for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to sign him.

However, a lot of the supporters are desperate for an attempt to be made, as seen by the tweets below:

Liverpool: Fans loved the banter between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson

Liverpool fans loved a social media post that was made by Andy Robertson about his fullback counterpart Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The duo have formed a strong bond within Jurgen Klopp’s side since their respective introductions into the team, with the Scotsman joining in 2017 for £8m from Hull City and the Englishman coming through the ranks at Melwood.

Both players were in active competition with each other last season to score the most assists in the Premier League last season and were always making comments to each other in the media about their personal goals within the side.

Alexander-Arnold had the last laugh during the 2018/19 campaign with 12 assists, both players combined 23 assists which were unprecedented levels for defenders in terms of creating goals.

Their relationship shows how close they are on and off the pitch after what Robertson said on Twitter.

Supporters loved the post from Robertson and made their feeling clear about it on social media.

Sheffield Wednesday fans laud Morgan Fox after clinching monthly award

Sheffield Wednesday are starting to solidify their claims of being a genuine playoff contender in the Championship since Garry Monk has taken charge.

His side sit fifth in the league and have lost just one game under his stewardship, picking up 15 points from a possible 24.

The 40-year-old was finally appointed as Steve Bruce’s successor at the start of September and has since started his reign better than each of his three predecessors.

Monk has also had to work with a squad built entirely by someone else, but that hasn’t fazed him one bit – some of the players have even been reaping the rewards from his appointment.

Massimo Luongo hadn’t started for the Owls until recently, while left-back Morgan Fox has been reinstated in the starting XI, which has led to many supporters talking up his performances in recent times.

The 26-year-old has started three straight league matches, contributing to two clean sheets, which has led to fans voting him for October’s Player of the Month award.

Many were quick to laud Fox following the announcement on Twitter.

One member of the Hillsborough faithful claimed he was the next Andrew Robertson, while another believed the left-back has looked like a completely different player this season.

A further supporter stated that it was nice to see others notice the graft he puts in with one more calling him the most improved player in the squad.
